OUR GAMES HAVE JUST BEGUN --- THE DEAD GAME --- PART 23

A duel to end all duels.
A battle to the death.
The winds raise the waves
To heights of ecstasy.

They tease the shore
With their pounding fury.
The sand reduced to dust
From their unrelenting force.

I'm torn in half,
Tempted by the ice storm,
Where cold flesh brings passion,
And games are the rule of the day.

Heat still flows through my veins,
Drawing me back to the light,
Where human flesh brings love
And easement from the storm.

Wolf rises from the water,
His body melting in droplets.
He exists no more.
He has lost the battle.

How could have I not known?
How could I have forgotten?
The cold waits no more for me.
Emptiness fills the void inside.

I can still hear his voice,
Feel his presence in the wind.
His icy fury slices into the shore,
Calling for me to join him.

Our games have just begun.

THE DEAD GAME

Moonlit Forest

"Walk with me through the moonlit forest.
Let our feet graze the tips of the grass,
Never touching down,
Held aloft by our love and passion.

Follow me through the endless night
To a land where no man walks.
Only creatures as dark as the sky
Dare to venture forth alone.

Love has no bounds or shackles.
We will be free to display our passion,
Without retribution from humanity,
As long as you remain mine.

Come with me, my ice princess.
Step away from the burning plains,
Where the heat burns your soles,
And love is hampered by the living."

He holds his hand out for mine.
The words flow from him.
His lips never utter a sound,
But his meaning is clear to me.

We can be together forever.
But the other one has followed us.
He will fight to take me back
And never give up his hold on me.

His eyes burn red with passion.
His fire follows close to our footsteps,
Scorching a trail through the grass,
Melting his enemy's cold trail.

They face each other.
Hot and cold from opposite poles,
Dueling until the end of time
As they fight for me.

Our games have just begun.

OUR GAMES HAVE JUST BEGUN --- THE DEAD GAME --- PART 21

The trees of the forest tremble and shake,
Their long limbs drooping in defeat.
Their bodies turn white,
Dripping with frozen tears.

Leaves will no longer rustle in the wind,
Their faces turning to the sun.
Darkness will be their only friend,
Bringing them no relief from the storm.

My world has turned hard and cold,
The brutal wind hitting my face.
I'm surrounded on all sides by white,
My bare feet sinking into the snow.

White covers the trees and grass.
White is the color of the forbidding sky.
White is the color of my nightgown
As I stand shivering in the night air.

My world has turned upside down
Since Wolf has walked into it.
He can't take me against my will
Or can he?

A dark shadow appears between the trees.
A man with a long coat billowing in the wind.
A chilling laugh fills the space between us,
Slithering across the icy surface.

Its tentacles grab hold of me,
Forcing me to move forward.
I dig my feet into the coldness,
But I'm no match for what lies ahead.

OUR GAMES HAVE JUST BEGUN --- THE DEAD GAME --- PART 20

What is reality?
And what is fantasy?
Should I run to the cold
Or go to the heat?
I shouldn't have left the party.

Wolf stands under a tree.
His gaze leaves frosty trail-marks
On Linda's shivering body.
The cold air holds her in its thrall.

"Come to me."
Wolf walks forward,
Bringing cold summer nights with him,
Promises of snow-swept sunrises.
He stands frozen in place.

Her shoes dig into the icy cold grass,
Taking her closer to her destiny.
She can't fight it any longer.
She has to give in to the night.

Wolf takes her into his arms.
"You are now mine,
My ice princess."
His lips crush hers in a bruising kiss.

Hot flames burst around her.
Freezing rain washes them away.
Hot and cold feelings overwhelm her.
Each fighting for domination.

Am I ready for this?
Ready for the cold and the night?
Wolf's black eyes lock into hers,
Assuring her,
Drawing her closer to him.

A snapped twig is followed by hot breath.
The ice melts off her.
Her heart pumps blood to her cold limbs.
She moves away from Wolf.

Todd's arms envelope her with their warmth.
They encircle her with feelings of love.
"This is right.
This is my destiny."
She smiles.

Wolf's eyes turn hard and unrelenting.
He backs away from her.
"This battle is not finished"
Are his last words
Before he disappears into the night.

THE DEAD GAME

THE HUNT

THE HUNT

It first comes slowly
In the dead of night.
Walking on silent feet.
It draws closer.
You run faster.
It speeds up.
You dash into a building.
An empty school.
It soon follows.
It brings with it a silence.
You can feel its presence.
Coming closer.
It’s now moving quickly.
Down the deserted hallway.
You check the doors.
They are all locked.
You turn.
Close your eyes.
And stand strong.
Darkness descends.

WHY DO WE WRITE?

Why do we write?
Our minds want more.
We need to explore the world.
To explore the unknown.

If we can’t fulfill our dreams in our daily lives,
Then we can fulfill them in our writing.
Stories about love, evil creatures, and deadly games.

I've always wanted to live in a small town.
So I created a small town in my book
And called it, Oasis.

I love to read books.
The main character moves to Oasis
And opens a bookstore.

You get the idea.
The main character, Linda,
Is living my dream life.

My mind takes a dark turn.
Life is too good and care-free.
Oasis needs a darker side.

The original residents live in a forest
And only come out at night.
This is when the fun and games begin.

Do you see where this is going?
If not, you can always read my book.
I finally got my small town,
Where fantasies come true,
And some just don’t.

THE BROOKLYN BRIDGE FALLS

The river flows black.
The sky lights up.
Hot glows of red, orange, yellow.
Then I hear the explosion.
Loud and deafening.
My ears ring.
The bridge is in flames.
The beautiful Brooklyn Bridge.
Pieces of metal land in the water.
Cries fill the cold air.
I'm lost in the frightened crowd.
Someone takes my hand.
I'm pulled to a building.
The door is locked and bolted.
I follow him from building to building.
Until we find an unlocked door.
Sounds of sirens follow us inside.
The door slams shut behind us.
Lines of cars face us.
I look up to see his face.
He turns away.
He leads me down a ramp.
I dig in my feet.
I must see his face.
He turns to me...
I wake up.
I still wonder...about his face.

JESS AND WIGGLE — A NEW BOOK FROM TALENTED AUTHOR, UVI POZNANSKY

Uvi

I would like to present a 5 star review of Uvi Poznansky’s new book, Jess and Wiggle. Uvi is a talented author and artist. Her words flow like water in a bubbling stream.

4 of 4 people found the following review helpful
5.0 out of 5 stars ‘That was chutzpa, plain and simple’, August 21, 2015
This review is from: Jess and Wiggle (Kindle Edition)
Uvi Poznansky wears a coat of many colors. Originally from Israel where she studied Architecture and Town Planning then moving to the US where she studied Computer Science and became an expert in Software Engineering, Poznansky managed to combine the design elements of two studies into unique formats. And she has accomplished the same with the other side of her brain – making visual her ideas (she is an accomplished painter, drawer, and sculptor who has enjoyed exhibitions both in Israel and in California, her present base) and making words in poetry and in short stories and children’s books.
JESS AND WIGGLE is one of her newest and freshest books yet. More concerned with the visual than the story Uvi provides all the illustrations for this delightful little rhyming tale – richly colored hand made collages as well as paintings adorn these beautiful and fanciful pages.
The story concerns young Jess who rarely smiles and never laughs until she encounters Wiggle, a ribbon like creature with whom she interacts In myriad ways in a test of who will laugh. Of course the winner is the recalcitrant Jess, but it is the artistic fun things she does with Wiggle that make the reader laugh way before Jess gives in!
This is another treasure form Uvi Poznansky – a perfect entertainment and lesson for children and adults alike. Grady Harp, August 15

OUR GAMES HAVE JUST BEGUN --- THE DEAD GAME --- PART 19

A door to your dreams,
And if you're not careful,
It can lead to your downfall.

All you have to do is open it.
And then walk through.
Your imagination does the rest.

The villagers explain about the door
To their captive audience.
A captive audience surrounded
On all sides by strangers.

Linda backs away from the door.
She could feel eyes boring holes
Into the back of her head.
They have to leave this strange place.

Her friends stand as still as the cold air.
Eyes wide open in pale faces.
They can't believe in such nonsense.
Can they?

A plain door sitting in a plain diner.
A little girl stands up and runs through the doorway
Into the lights and sounds of a carnival.
A clown hands the girl a balloon.

The village mayor turns to smile at them.
The girl returns with a red balloon
Trailing along behind her.
She runs into the mayor's arms.

What game are they playing?
We should have escaped
When we had the chance.

Linda doesn't like to play games.

A PERFECT PLACE TO BE

OASIS

A more beautiful place cannot be.
It faces the waves of the dark sea.
White sand and quiet beaches galore.
You can’t ask for anything more.
Life is perfect as can be.
Come and frolic with me.
Tourists visit from far and wide.
Oasis is Florida’s pride.
Beware when The Dead descend.
We can no longer pretend
This is a perfect place to be
As The Dead rise up from the sea.
Darkness brings flying creatures and death.
Beware that this won’t be your last breath.

OUR GAMES HAVE JUST BEGUN --- THE DEAD GAME --- PART 18

I don't feel anything.
No pain.
No guilt.
Only freedom and peace.

Arms pull me out of the water.
I'm laid down on the concrete.
Fun and relaxation is over.
Reality has reared it ugly head.

My eyes open to find dark eyes searching mine.
Todd is checking my breathing.
He's searching for any injuries.
He holds me close.
Maybe a little too close.

I try to stand up.
I don't want is concern.
I don't want his pity.
I want to forget it all.

Holding me tighter, he says,
"Little one, you're not going anywhere.
You almost drowned.
Why are you here alone?"

I stand up with my head held high.
"I was pushed.
I'm a good swimmer.
The water in the pool isn't deep."

"I thought you were hurt.
And why are you hanging around an empty pool?"
He gently moves wet strands of hair
Out of my face.

I still don't trust him.
"Thanks Todd for your help,
But I'd better go inside.
It's getting chilly."

Todd takes off his jacket.
He wraps it around my shoulders.
With his arm around my waist,
He leads me into the hotel.

Always in control.
Always military stiff.
That's my Todd.
Well, not my Todd.

Todd leaves me in the reception area.
He leans over and gives me a kiss.
On the lips.
He's getting more daring.

He turns away
And walks out of the hotel
Into the dark night.
No goodbye.

And the games continue...

OUR GAMES HAVE JUST BEGUN --- THE DEAD GAME --- PART 17

So alone.
Why can't I enjoy the view.
Blue water cascading over rocks.
The smell of the sea in the air.
A vacation paradise.

My thoughts drift to happier times.
Times of parties and friends.
New acquaintances.
New beginnings.

Where has it all gone?
Gone from my mind.
Gone from the town.
To be replaced by dark shadows.

I can feel them around me,
Lurking beyond the pool,
Waiting for the right moment to pounce.
I refuse to let them get me.
Not this time.

The water does look inviting;
To be cocooned in its warmth.
I feel wet.
I'm in the water.
I must have been pushed.

A chuckle drifts nearby,
Transforming into a hearty laugh.
Is it coming from the shadow above the rocks?
Did it push me in?

I close my eyes.
The warmth.
The safety.
Like a baby
Returning to the womb.

THE DEAD GAME

OUR GAMES HAVE JUST BEGUN --- THE DEAD GAME --- PART 16

"Oh it's you again."
Linda turns back around.
The door is gone.

Why is he following me?
Is he the one controlling the town?
He did control the stairs and the door
At End House.
Is he a vampire or even a human vampire?

Todd moves into the sunlight.
The rays brush red strokes through his black hair.
His black eyes glisten in the yellow haze.
Vampires can't be in the sunlight,
Or can they?

"I can tell you're happy to see me.
Why do you run from me?"
The rays follow him forward,
Clinging to his muscular body.
A small smile escapes his lips.

"Do you have special powers?
Besides the ones at End House.
You always seem to know when
Something bad is about to happen."

The forest quiets.
A strong breeze ruffles his hair.
His broadening smile brings
Shivers down her spine.
A secret joke at her expense.

"Linda,
Come to me."
Todd's eyes twinkle and shine.

Can this be Todd?
He's acting like...
He's acting like Wolf.
Oh no!

THE DEAD GAME

What if Linda met Todd in the forest?
Would she confront him?
Based upon the book.

OUR GAMES HAVE JUST BEGUN --- THE DEAD GAME --- PART 15

A dark tunnel leads to nothingness.
Its entrance concealed.
Once entered,
there's no going back.

Where is the tunnel?
Is it in the forest behind town?
Questions race through Linda's mind.
Should she search for the entrance?

The tall trees tower over her.
Leaves blow in a circle.
The circle tightens
And so does Linda's throat.

OUR GAMES HAVE JUST BEGUN --- THE DEAD GAME --- PART 14

The Dead Game has ended.
Has another one just begun?
Mysteries have been solved.
Villains sought and found.
But too many questions remain unanswered.

The sunshine calls to Linda
Like never before.
Tired of the dark,
She leaves the cave behind.

The day has lengthened.
Sunbathers now dot the beach.
Bodies glisten in the sun,
Innocently exposing their white limbs.

Who will be alive tomorrow?
Will red be added to the white?
Another dead body come morning light.
Innocent no longer.

The palm trees wave in the soft breeze.
Traitors in the moonlight,
Holding us captive in their grasp.
Minions of the high and mighty.

All traitors to the night.
The moonlight conceals their activities.
The winds attack their victims.
And the rains wash away all evidence.

If nature can't fight The Dead,
Then how can I?
Will I be alive come morning?
Only time will tell.

That is, only if it wants to.

THE DEAD GAME

Stay tuned for further adventures.

OUR GAMES HAVE JUST BEGUN --- THE DEAD GAME --- PART 13

Footsteps outside the cave.
Who followed her here?
Linda hadn't seen anyone near the beach.
The beach and walkway had been deserted.

She backs away from the approaching figure.
He ducks his head to enter the secluded cave.
His large body blocks the sunlight.
The cave turns dark.
Dark and damp.

The tall man stands up to full height.
His dark eyes canvas the area.
They roam over the table and chairs
To finally land upon Linda trembling in the corner.

"Why are you hiding in a cave?
You are definitely a magnet for trouble."
He moves closer with firm steps.
The cave feels smaller.
His arms reach out for her.

She backs against the wall.
"Todd! Why are you here?
I don't even want to know
Why you're following me.
Just go away!"

Todd stares at her.
His handsome face forms a frown.
He turns to walk out from the cave.

He took her at her word:
He left her alone.
But she feels more alone,
More upset than before.
Why can't things ever be easy?

THE DEAD GAME

A new story based upon the book.

OUR GAMES HAVE JUST BEGUN --- THE DEAD GAME --- PART 12

Heartache is for me.
My heart yearns for thee.
Lies fall so easily from your lips.
They feel salty on my fingertips.

I must remain strong.
I hope I am wrong.
But I will need proof to trust you once more.
Oh, Todd, my heart is breaking at its core.

The salty mist soothes me.
The wind caresses me.
But I feel cold deep inside.
I need a safe place to hide.

Linda takes one last look at the sky,
Then turns to find a quiet spot,
Where vampires and human vampires don't exist,
Where human beings are the ones in vogue.

She must leave Oasis tonight
For a place far away from The Dead.
If only she could fly away from here
And find a place with no danger or fear.

An owl circles above her head.
It gives one shriek before diving down.
Down into a cave between the rocks.
Who knew that there were caves by the ocean?

Linda follows the bird's flight.
She crawls through the opening.
Wooden furniture in a small room.
A jacket thrown across a chair.

Who lives here?
The refrigerator in the corner hums.
No plugs, no electricity.
But the food is cold.

Footsteps crunch outside the cave.
Soon she will have company.
Soon she will have to make a decision.
Only one room and no where to hide.

A dark figure bends to walk through the opening.
Linda backs into the corner.
Could this be Todd?
Does she want it to be Todd?

Linda's problems have just begun.

OUR GAMES HAVE JUST BEGUN — THE DEAD GAME —PART 11

The opulent staircase gives way.
Linda slides into its deadly grasp.
A tunnel envelopes her.
Hands reach out for her.
A thick, spongy darkness.
Walls too slippery to grab.
Cries fill the endless void.

Will I reach the bottom?
Is there even a bottom to this madness?
Who lives beneath End House?
Will I become one of them?
Forever roaming the dark tunnels,
Not really dead but one of the undead.

Into the unyielding darkness comes a cry.
"Stop!"
Linda looks up to see Todd and Shana,
Clinging to the rocky walls.
It was Todd who had called out.
The tunnel dissolves.
The stairs return.

They run down the staircase
And make it to the front door.
Linda pulls on the handle.
It won't budge.
"Open!"
At Todd's command,
The door opens for them.
The house pushes them out.
The door slams behind them.

Too terrified to look at Todd,
Linda races ahead to the car.
If Todd has powers,
Then he might be one of The Dead.
He could be evil like the rest of them.
I can't believe I was actually
Falling for him.

Linda's problems have only begun.

OUR GAMES HAVE JUST BEGUN --- THE DEAD GAME ---PART 10

Take me to the forest.
Please show me the way.
I need to find the house,
Where the evil play.

Their games have us all trapped.
They have us in a bind.
We must release our shackles
Before it's hell we find.

The earth is giving away.
I'm slowly sinking into the ground.
To a god I must now pray.
I will soon be lost and never found.

My arms reach out to the sky above.
Nothing is there but green mist and fog.
I need help to get out of this mess.
I'm sinking into the squishy bog.

THE DEAD GAME

OUR GAMES HAVE JUST BEGUN --- THE DEAD GAME --- PART 9

The house is evil.
Its windows like eyes
That watch our every move.
Its doors like arms
That try to hold us in.

We've come this far.
We cannot give up.
An easy escape this is not.
There's no going back now.

A steep staircase waits for no one,
Its wooden railing broken and useless.
A throbbing sea waits for them below.
More victims to bob on its choppy waves.

Louise is determined to overcome the odds.
She cannot wait for Mike and David.
Time has almost run out.
She tries the first step with her foot.
It creaks and crumbles away.

The winds kick up their legs
In their nightly dance.
They howl in glee
As the music picks up its pace.

The house intensifies its attacks.
With the winds
Come flying creatures.
Creatures from hell
With murder in their yellow eyes.

Louise feels talons pulling on her hair.
Shrieks fill the night sky.
They have no choice but down.
A cloud of darkness descends,
Its claws ready to grab hold of her.

She jumps over the first step.
The second one holds her weight.
Down she goes into the night.
The fog hides the remaining stairs.
But down she goes,
For she has no other choice.

Cries from her friends
Follow her in the darkness
Until she hits rock bottom.
Soft sand cushions her fall.

Time is running out.
She must make it back to town.
Leaving her friends,
She flees for her life.

OUR GAMES HAVE BEGUN --- THE DEAD GAME PART 8

The night is here.
Waves are lapping.
Dark blue ink creeping to shore.
Will I weather this storm?
Stand strong like the lone tree?

Flapping sounds fill the air.
Black spots cover the night sky.
Have they come for me?
For the town?

Waves hit me in the face.
The sand pulls me deeper.
The tree begins to bend.
I must go.

Shrieks echo in the wind.
Black feathers fly in the humid air.
Beaks pointing downward.
I must hide.

The trees call to me.
I will go to them.
They will hide me.
I must run faster.

Almost there.
A gazebo in the fog.
A noose hanging.
A body flapping in the wind.
The park can't offer me safety.
Nowhere can.

THE DEAD GAME

OUR GAMES HAVE JUST BEGUN -- THE DEAD GAME -- PART 7

A party in the town of Oasis.
An elegant house.
Armed guards at the front door.
The property lit by sparkling lights.
Snow flakes falling in the warm Florida weather.
An unusual party in an unusual town.

The ball room's glass walls mirror the guests
Twirling among an army of glass figures.
Linda hesitates near a statue of a weeping woman.
Wet tears flow down her cheeks.
She's tempted to touch the woman's face.
Instead, she pulls Todd away from the sad sight.

The grandfather clock chimes midnight.
The dancers stand frozen
Until the last chime
Rings off in the distance.
The music begins again.
Dancing resumes.

How strange.
What was that about?
And those statues.
Are people frozen inside?
Linda turns to speak to Todd.
He's gone.
She's left standing alone among the statues.

Huddled in a corner are her friends.
Shana is ready to take action.
"Everyone has disappeared upstairs.
We should follow them
And find out what they're hiding."

The glass staircase gives them
A perfect view of the diminishing party below.
Three closed doors stand waiting for them.
The middle one offers them a tropical paradise.
Chirping birds.
Marmoset monkeys hanging from trees.

An illusion or not.

OUR GAMES HAVE JUST BEGUN -- THE DEAD GAME -- PART 6

Another day in Oasis, Florida.
Another perfect day.
A party at the desolate End House
Leaves two party members missing
And the rest fleeing for their lives.

The Sheriff sits alone in his office,
Waiting for word about the party.
No phone calls.
And no deputy.
A deputy gone missing when needed most.

Louise runs ahead of Mike and David,
Down the treacherous back steps of End House.
Steep steps offering a long drop into the ocean.
The beach offers its own obstacles.
Swirling masses of sand hit her in the face.
Almost blinded, she makes it to the gazebo in the park.

Why has she come here?
Better to have gone straight to the Sheriff.
But something is pulling her forward.
Not a thing but an invisible force.
She feels like a puppet on a string,
Being controlled by a malevolent puppet master.

A noose hangs in the gazebo,
Swaying in the quickening breeze.
Who put it there?
Maybe by those hooded creatures,
Who are circling the gazebo and chanting.

"More games.
I hate games.
But even more,
I hate The Dead.
I refuse to join in the fun.

"Wait!
How did I get up here?
The noose is around my neck!
And those creatures are leering at me.
The leader has a deep voice that sounds familiar.
Could they be human?
Oh no! Now I recognize one of them.
But it's too late for me.
And too late for the town."

PURPLE HOT ANGER

PURPLE HOT ANGER

The sky flashes its purple hot wrath
Amidst flashes of white lights,
Reflected below on the silvery surface.
In shades of blues and purples.
How can I replicate this beauty?
How can I capture it in a picture?
I can’t.
Captured is only a glimpse of the fury.
A quick shot of its hot anger.
Don’t look away
For soon it will gone
By the clouds eager to take its place.

OUR GAMES HAVE JUST BEGUN --- PART V

Linda lifts her face to the night sky.
The clouds part to reveal the light of the moon.
A light reserved for night creatures.
Footsteps echo behind her on the deserted walkway.
Sand from the beach swirls in mounds around her.
Laughter floats in the wind.

"Will I make it home in time?
I should never have taken a walk alone at night."
Head down, racing down the path,
She doesn't see the shadow detaching itself
From the trees flailing in the wind.
Into its waiting arms she flies.

"What the hell are you doing here?"
Linda looks up to come face to face with Todd.
He holds her steady against the wind's increasing fury.
"I'm just taking a walk."
She refuses to let him berate her or tell her what to do.

"The town isn't safe at night.
I will walk you home."
His dark eyes tear through her.
She isn't afraid of him.
Or is she?

THE DEAD GAME

OUR GAMES HAVE JUST BEGUN --- PART 1V

Linda runs out from the Town Hall
To find sunshine beating down on the sand.
Birds are once again flying overhead.
Happy cries fill the blue sky.

The sun resumes its regal position.
The winds retreat as one,
Dragging their tails between their legs.
The palm trees stop their mad dance
To bend softly in the sea breeze.

"Are we finally safe?
The Dead must still be here,
Somewhere close.
I can still feel them.
But they won't win.
They can't!"

Her friends walk down the steps of the battered Town Hall,
Climbing over fallen bricks and dead creatures.
No more cries of flying creatures.
Only the sounds of leaves shuffling in the breeze.

Linda is proud of her town and her friends.
With the help of The Watchers, human vampires,
And Father John, victory will soon be theirs.
Tears stream down her face.

They are safe.
This is all that matters to her.
Worrying about the future could wait for tomorrow.
Today is a day for thankfulness.
All is well.
All are safe.
The church bells gong in the distance.
Tomorrow will be a new day.
