DARK THOUGHTS

DARK SHADOWS OF MY MIND

The nightmare of my mind.
Crammed with trees and dirt.
A deserted forest of the night.
No visitors or intruders.
Only death and silence.
Graves mark the spots
where life once stood.
Now all that’s left is
darkness and shadows.
Shadows drifting across
space and my mind.

TWO-FACED WONDER

Beautiful rose.
Soft and velvety.
Protected by sharp thorns.
Bright in the sunshine.
Dark in the moonlight.
A two-faced wonder.

OASIS IS NEXT

MY NEXT STOP

Oasis is my next stop.
The Dead’s playground.
I can hear their cries.
Tourists caught in their traps.
Residents falling for their lures.
They haven’t been warned.
Weren’t told to stay away.
A den of evil in paradise.
It’s now my turn to retrieve.

THEY’RE COMING

Red will be the beaches.
Dark will be the skies.
They fly in from above.
They travel from below.
Trumpet blasts of thunder.
Lightning to light the way.
To Oasis they come.
To give the final blow.

LIVING

Life is a sculpture.
Life is a living creature.
It entices us.
It bemuses us.
It challenges us.
But most of all.
It inspires us.

SEND IN THE CLOWNS

Daniel Merriam

I open my eyes.
I see circus men.
Why are they in my bedroom?
Soft laughter fills the room.
Clowns are waving knives at me.
I need to escape.
I can’t.
I’m tied to my bed.
They’re coming closer.
The laughter is getting louder.
I close my eyes.
All is quiet.
My eyes open.
The room is dark.
And empty.
I glance over at my chair.
A red balloon is tied to it.
Floating in the air.
Oh no.

WATCHING ME

Who is watching me from the water?
Someone is bobbing beneath the waves.
He’s coming closer to shore.
I see eyes.
Yellow eyes sparkling in the sunlight.
Green skin with yellow spots.
I must run.
Before it catches me.
Wait.
A man is rising from the waves.
A man in a wet suit.
All is safe.
Ouch!
I’m shot.
He shot me.
With a spear gun.
Too late.
I’m falling down.
Is this only bad dream?
I hope so.

THE DEAD WALK NO MORE

It calls to me.
It flickers.
It winks.
It watches.
It waits.
I must follow.
I must see.
Who goes there?
Walkers of the night.
Hiding in the dark.
Ready to pounce.
Once the sun sets.
I will be ready,
I will follow.
Uncover their identities.
Until The Dead
Walk no more.
THE DEAD GAME

MOVE TOO FAST

Life moves too fast.
People rushing back and forth.
Where are they going?
Do they reach their destinations?
Rushing.
Everything a blur.
Faces and lights flashing by.
Stop!
Take a breath.
What happened to enjoying life?
Living for the moment.
When does that happen?

FLY AWAY

Fly away, birds.
Fly free from this place.
From the town of demons.
Where walkers of the night.
Wait for the dark.
For their deadly games.
Palm trees bow to their power.
Sand covers their victims.
Tourists flee the hotel.
The winds howl their name.
Hail pounds their beat.
Lightning shows the way.
The Dead are here to stay.

CHOICES

Should we go up?
Climb the stairs of our ambitions.
Should we walk down?
Tired of expectations.
Or we can wait downstairs.
Wait for the best opportunities
To come to us.
And there’s the door.
Give up on it all.

A PERFECT PARADISE

A perfect oasis on the shore.
You could not ask for anything more.
Sun and surf during the day,
But at night there’s hell to pay.
The waves welcome daily swimmers,
But at night there are no winners.
Afraid to venture out after dark,
Residents stay clear of the town park.
One night, a hanging party was had
By the dark creatures who are plain bad.
Our town is plagued by darkness and woe.
We don’t even know who is our foe.
