EVIL

The house explodes.
It shatters from within
and topples to the sea.
No trace left behind
of its evil existence
or The Dead.
THE DEAD GAME

SAY A PRAYER FOR ME

A casualty of war.
A casualty of nature.
Sad.
Alone.
Drifting.
Broken.
Silenced forever.
Say a prayer for me.

PARTY WITH THE DEAD

Follow me to the clearing,
where the trees part in fear.
The Dead come to play,
and the La Santa Muerte rule.
Bring your sacrifices.
Your wishes will come true.
The female Grim Reaper is all-powerful.
The taste of blood can be sweet.
She will grant wishes of  revenge
to your bitter heart’s content.

ONLY THE DEAD KNOW

ONLY THE DEAD KNOW
We might look human,
but we’re not.
We might act human,
but we love to kill.
Our fearless leader
shows no mercy.
Who is he?
Will he show his face?
Only The Dead know.

DARK AS THE NIGHT

I walk with the living at day,
They do not hear a word I say.
They believe I’m alive like them,
But I’m stronger than any men.
I run like the wind past the trees,
Fly through the sky faster than bees.
My true self is hidden away,
I might be a little fey.
At night I walk with others,
They’re close to me like brothers.
“Who am I?” you might ask.
I might take you to task.
Take care not to open that door,
You’ll be in hell forevermore.

WASH AWAY MY SORROW

Please wash away my sorrow and pain.
Let it flow down the streets with the rain.
Dissolved in torrents of despair and sadness,
Joining others on its way past the madness.
The ocean may take it far away,
To places, we cannot even say.
Where no one recognizes its sting
Or knows the infliction it can bring.
Let the rain grow harder with its might,
Becoming hail on this fateful night.
I want to be free of all traces
Of unwanted feelings and faces.
My body grows cold from the rain.
It stands clean and free from the pain.
Shivers create a path down my spine,
As I wait in the dark woods of pine.

I hold my head high to the wet spray.
It becomes a mist of blue and grey.
The faucet has turned off for the night,
Leaving me feeling clean and so right.

THE DARKNESS INSIDE

Teeth glisten in the dark
as I walk through the park.
I stop in my tracks in fear,
not knowing what can be near.

I stand quietly and listen,
but I only see the glisten.
Soft footsteps ring out behind me.
I’m not waiting around to see.

Then I happen to glance down,
and my face droops in a frown.
The fanged smile floats on the lily pond.
Of my reflection, I’m not so fond.

It reveals the darkness inside
that I’ve always failed to hide.

THE DEAD GAME SERIES

The soothing waves turn choppy.
Residents become fearful.
Paradise turns deadly.
Don't get caught in the storm
as The Dead take their true form.

A REVIEW TO DIE FOR!

Thank you, Shaun Baines, for the delightful review.

The Dead Game by Susanne Leist

The setting is a strong part of this book for me and I loved the location of Oasis as a bohemian beachside resort. On the surface, it is bright and colourful, but underneath it has its ancient secrets – one of which is the existence of vampires.
The author has a new take on this folklore. Vampires have splintered off into different factions, each with their own unique role in the human world. Naturally, this creates tension and provides a backdrop to the action.
Linda and Shana are human and the main protagonists. They have a strong, but an impish relationship which is tested as they investigate the disappearances of tourists and residents alike. They are aided by their friends and by a handful of others whose changing allegiances sow seeds of doubt everywhere.
Added to this is a rich palette of gods and demons and spellcasters, lending the book a strong fantasy element. However, there are also strands of horror, suspense, and romance as Linda falls for the enigmatic Todd, who is not who he seems.
With its florid imagery, The Dead Game has a cinematic quality, reminding me of the film The Lost Boys. They both have playful savagery, placing them apart (and for me personally, above) the Twilight series.
For fans of the supernatural, The Dead Game is available worldwide and on Amazon UK here, and on Amazon US here.

THE DARK FOREST

THE DARK FOREST
Follow the path.
Deep into the forest.
Ignore the howls.
Don’t turn back.
Soon you’ll be there.
Be prepared for a surprise.
A party at a deserted house.
End House waits.
And so do The Dead.
THE DEAD GAME

THE LAST ONE

owl-517497_640

I search the night.
A lovely sight.
My wings are spread.
Don’t go to bed.
I see you scurry.
Don’t need to worry.
My talons reach for thee.
In the sky, you’ll soon be.
We’ll soar to my nest.
I will love you best.
I will be the last one you’ll see
before your eyes close for me.

ALONE WITH THE SNOW

Night Walk – {by Tiina Törmänen} | {Official WebSite}

A walk in the dark.
Alone in the park.
The cold creeps.
The trees shiver.
The falling snow whispers.
The stars sparkle.
No voices.
No noises.
Alone with the snow
And the bitter cold.
