ANOTHER NIGHT

park bench
Source: softwaring

Take a seat in the park.
A shadow passes.
More shadows follow.
They circle a gazebo.
The shadows take form.
Humans in hooded robes.
A woman hangs from a noose.
They circle faster.
The wind follows in their wake.
Cries fill the night.
Then silence.
The gazebo stands empty.
Another night in Oasis, Florida.

GAZEBO IN THE DARK

GAZEBO IN THE DARK
Darkness surrounds from each side.
The storm brews with the rising tide.
A gazebo stands in the clearing.
I don’t like the shrill sound I’m hearing.
Candles flicker inside.
There is no place to hide.
I’m being pulled toward the light.
My body refuses to fight.
A noose hangs above me.
I will never be free.

A BEAUTIFUL GAZEBO

A beautiful gazebo.
Perfect for a wedding.
Fantasy comes to life.
Until the night.
Robed figures circle.
A noose hangs within.
It’s slipped around my neck.
I can’t move.
The figures circle faster.
The winds pick up speed.
I’m hanging.
Watching my life drift away.
A beautiful gazebo.

THE DEAD TAKE NO PRISONERS

A light glows from the gazebo.
Chanting floats on the howling wind.
Lit candles form a circle inside.
A body dangles in their midst,
swaying in the increasing winds.
Dark figures circle the body.
Their hands raised in prayer.
The Dead Game has begun.

ANOTHER NIGHT IN OASIS

Source:

Take a seat in the park.
Watch the world go by.
A shadow flits by.
More shadows to follow.
They converge on the gazebo.
A gazebo rimmed in roses.
Their heady fragrance sweeten the air.
The shadows take on forms.
Human forms in dark robes.
They circle the gazebo.
Chanting strange words.
A noose hangs inside.
Wrapped around a woman’s neck.
The robbed figures circle faster.
Winds follow in their wake.
Faster, faster, and faster they go.
Cries fill the night.
Then all is silent.
The gazebo is empty.
The figures are gone.
Another night in Oasis, Florida.

OUR GAMES HAVE BEGUN --- THE DEAD GAME PART 8

The night is here.
Waves are lapping.
Dark blue ink creeping to shore.
Will I weather this storm?
Stand strong like the lone tree?

Flapping sounds fill the air.
Black spots cover the night sky.
Have they come for me?
For the town?

Waves hit me in the face.
The sand pulls me deeper.
The tree begins to bend.
I must go.

Shrieks echo in the wind.
Black feathers fly in the humid air.
Beaks pointing downward.
I must hide.

The trees call to me.
I will go to them.
They will hide me.
I must run faster.

Almost there.
A gazebo in the fog.
A noose hanging.
A body flapping in the wind.
The park can't offer me safety.
Nowhere can.

ANOTHER ONE BITES THE DUST

ANOTHER ONE BITES THE DUST

THE NOOSE

The hanging noose is here.
Everything is clear.
The Dead are taking me down.
They want to clean up the town.
“Let’s get rid of Louise,” they say.
“Let her be the first one to pay.”
They are circling me round and round.
I’m hanging with my feet off the ground.
I can recognize one of the creatures.
I’ve already seen those set of features.
But it’s too late for me and the town.
It’s staring at me with a big frown.
“Cheer up,” I want to scream at it.
“Since I’m the one whose buying it.”

GAZEBO IN THE DARK

GAZEBO IN THE DARK

The thick darkness surrounds me from all sides.
The storm is brewing with the rising tides.
Up ahead is the gazebo in the clearing.
I do not like the sound of the wind I’m hearing.
Tonight it is deserted and eerie.
I wonder if anyone will see me.
There are candles lit inside.
There won’t be a place to hide.
I’m being pulled into the light.
I refuse to give up my fight.
A noose is hanging up above for me.
Soon I’ll be bait for the fish in the sea.

BUTTERFLY FLY AWAY

phoenix-in-ashes:

BUTTERFLY FLY AWAY

Fly away my butterfly.
Up into the clearing sky.
Away from this park.
Away from the  dark.
I wish I could fly with you.

To a sky clear and blue.

I want to be free from this fight,

But this noose is holding me tight.

Farewell to Oasis and my friends.

This shouldn’t be how the story ends.

OLD GLORY

Step inside.
I was once a beautiful gazebo.
People would use me for parties.
There would be dancing.
Children would play their games,
like hide and seek.
The sun favored me.
The moon adored me.
I could do no wrong.
Then weeds began to grow.
I began to splinter apart.
There would be no more visitors.
Why you may ask?
I was a casualty of time.
Time passed and
so did my glory.

THE DEAD GAME HAS BEGUN

THE DEAD GAME

Louise and her friends escaped End House but the deadly game was not over. The Dead had much more in store for Louise.

Louise noticed black shapes creeping toward them on the pool deck. She fled down the steep stairs to the beach with Mike and David following close behind. She heard David screeching about flying bats trying to knock him off the face of the mountain. Hard objects swiped at her, almost causing her to lose her balance a few times on the slippery stone steps. But she continued on, refusing to look back over her shoulder to face what or who was attacking them.
She dashed along the beach, feeling as if mounds of sand were being thrust in her face. On the walkway, branches swiped her across the face—like skinny wooden arms struggling to hold her back.
Louise ran down Main Street.  She felt all alone. The streets quiet. No lights or sounds were coming from the empty buildings. She saw candles flickering inside the gazebo. She felt her body being thrust toward the ghostly display of lights. The gusting wind was flinging leaves and branches at her face and around her feet, but still she was being propelled forward.
The gazebo, appearing pretty and tranquil during the day, looked ethereal and unfamiliar to her in the light of the candles. Somehow, the circle of light remained firm and unwavering despite the violent storm raging all around her. She entered the lit circle…all the while knowing that she had just signed her death sentence. She had no control over her actions any longer; she was like a puppet on a string being controlled by a malevolent puppet master.
When she was positioned at the precise center of the circle of candles, dark shapes—similar to the ones that had been stalking her for weeks—appeared around the perimeter of the gazebo. They began circling her. As they circled faster and faster, a strong current of air lifted her up high under the roof of the gazebo. She felt a noose being wrapped around her neck. Then she felt it being tugged tighter and tighter until she could no longer breathe—or even care to struggle any longer.
Without any air left in her lungs…with the world spinning around her…she watched as the shadows slowed down and took on distinct human forms. The figures revealed themselves to be men and women with black eyes, glaring up at her. They were chanting in an unfamiliar language. They were clothed in long black robes, their hoods casting their faces in deep shadow. Long metal chains hung from their necks with huge gold medallions depicting snarling wolves’ heads.
One member of the group—taller and much larger than the rest—lifted arms up high to heaven or down to hell below. In response, the winds turned wilder and more violent, moaning in unison with the voice of the unknown leader. Louise recognized one face right before she lost consciousness, but she knew that it was too late for her or the town.

THE GAZEBO IN THE PARK

THE GAZEBO IN THE PARK

The gazebo stands in the middle
of the town park.
In the daylight hours, it welcomes tourists
and residents with its colorful trellis of flowers.
Children love to play in this creative wonder.
At night, its true nature is revealed.
It stands dark and silent, waiting…
On this night, flickering candles can be
seen in its dark recesses.
A noose is dangling from its wide beams.
Does it have unwelcome visitors?
Who are they waiting for?
Are they waiting for the innocent of Oasis
to wander into its dark depths?
Would you like to be one of them?

THE HAUNTED GAZEBO

Victorian Garden
The gazebo in the park.
As I walk from the beach,
I begin to hear chanting coming
from of the direction of the gazebo.
The wind picks up speed and
pushes me closer to the gazebo.
All of a sudden, I’m strung up to the rafters
with a noose around my neck.
How did this happen?
How did this happen so quickly?
Dark hooded creatures begin to
circle the gazebo.
As they circle faster and faster,
the wind lifts me up and pulls the noose
tighter around my neck.
I can’t see the faces of the chanters,
their hoods are draped low across their faces.
They appear to be human.
They could even be people from town.
The noose grows tighter and tighter until
I begin to lose consciousness.
This is the end and I don’t even know
who is killing me.
I’m growing weaker, losing consciousness,
and not caring anymore about Oasis and its dark secrets.
The Dead Game has begun.

COME AND JOIN ME

The scene looks peaceful and serene.
I could close my eyes and feel myself
sitting there in the shade of the trees.
I could hear crickets chirping and
fish jumping in the pond.
Close your eyes and join me.

OPEN DOOR

Walk through the doorway.
It can take you to wonderful places.
Magical places where the world is peaceful.
Gardens that are green with grass and
colorful from displays of flowers.
Maybe a gazebo with a trellis of roses.
It can be anything you want it to be.
You just have to imagine it.

EXCERPT OF THE DEAD GAME
