I feel lost and confused. I feel dizzy and unsure. My mind is pulled in opposite directions. What do I want? I want to create. Throw paint on a wall. Write books. Compose poetry. I want to create.

A PERFECT SUMMER DAY

Brushstrokes of blue and gray

to outline the puffy clouds.

Broad swipes of teal and aquamarine

to meet the neverending horizon.

Swells of purest white

will rise from the blue depths.

As my fingers reach for the canvas,

my gaze travels to the brushes,

and I shake my head.

No painting is needed

to capture the perfect day.

I stare around me

at nature’s perfect handiwork.

LET THE MAGIC FLOW

Let the colors splatter and merge.

No need to mourn the mess.

Magic flows from the artist’s hand.

Beauty to soothe one’s stress.

Picture a flower growing from the sea.

Can there be a prettier sight to see?

Bubbles of flowers float ashore.

Close your eyes and open that door.

This is what I need for today.

Pastel colors to soothe my stay.

Pinks and blues mix well together.

I can look at them forever.

Bright colors as far as the eye could see.

Blue, yellow, red, orange, purple and green.

A frame is needed for this gorgeous scene.

If I could walk into this masterpiece,

My life would be so calming and at peace.

The beauty of nature.

It is a living and breathing

sculpture.

It entices us.

It bemuses us.

It challenges us.

But most of all,

it inspires us.

STARRY NIGHT

Starry Night Over the Rhone, Vincent van Gogh.

The night walks on tiptoes,

not wanting to wake the sleeping.

The water shimmers in silence

beneath the starry sky.

In the distance, lights flicker

from boats and buildings.

We walk the shore

in the hazy mist of lights.

Lights to comfort the weary

who can’t lay their heads to sleep.

We will walk until the dark blue

turns orange and yellow with sunrise.

Until the streets fill with others

on their way to begin their day.

Gone is the starry night

where silence hides hideous sins.

Time to retreat until the starry night

returns once more.

Snap at you.

Sharp teeth.

Crushing jaws.

Colors surround you.

Murky water.

Deep mud.

Swirling.

Around and around.

Happy dreams.

A PLACE OF FANTASY

A place of fantasy there must be,
where blues and green merge in the deep sea.

Clouds create formations into works of art,
resembling soft cotton balls splitting apart.

I raise my face to the sunshine of the day,
the rays shooting sparks as they frolic and play.

The sand is soft beneath my feet,
warming my body with its heat.

Come with me and enjoy the dazzling sun,
we’re sure to have fun till the day is done.

FOOD FOR THE SOUL

The bird sings in its cage,

happy to be alive.

The musician plays his violin

in perfect harmony.

Nature at its best.

Beauty in its simplicity.

Food for our minds and souls.

in the coldest reaches.

Nature’s colorful palette

extends from the sky to beaches.

We might try to copy nature’s soft stroke,

but we must listen to what it teaches.
