OUR GAMES HAVE JUST BEGUN --- THE DEAD GAME --- PART 46

"Keep away from me!"
The evil face glares back at me
From high above.

Behind smokey clouds
It dares to hide.
Hiding its grinning stare.

I refuse to yield to its whims.
I refuse to walk the earth at night
Like The Dead and gone.

The edge of the beach lies ahead.
From there is no escape.
The raging ocean lies beyond.

A figure steps out from between the rocks.
A spray of waves highlights its bleak form.
I recognize the deep laughter.

Wolf steps into the moon's angry glare.
A crooked smile crossing his face.
"Did you miss me, my ice princess?"

Weariness and dread overcome me,
Chilling me to the bone.
I have no fight left inside.

Wolf lifts me in his muscled arms.
The winds swirl around our bodies.
A sandstorm whitens the beach and air.

All is gone in the mist and spray.
We're encased in our own private hell.
Wolf lowers his cold lips to mine.

HELP ME

HELP ME

lifeisthefight:

HELP ME
I’m all alone in the house.
I’ll be quiet as a mouse.
For I hear noises outside.
I must find a place to hide.
Now I hear noises from above.
Something just gave me a big shove.
Help me before it’s too late.
And my life is left to fate.

OUR GAMES HAVE JUST BEGUN --- THE DEAD GAME --- PART 45

Do my eyes deceive me?
Can this be true?
A creature is stalking me
Through the dark streets of town.

Eyes black as night.
Cries as soft as the wind.
Sharp claws tapping a sad melody.
It draws closer to me still.

The mansion's gates yawn open for me.
My feet leave tracks in the mud.
Handprints where I fall in my haste.
Salty tears on the rocks.

The mansion waits in its dark glory
For the innocent and weary.
It sheds its shell like a caterpillar,
But no butterfly does it become.

The creature gains ground.
Stalking in its feline way.
Whiskers in the wind,
Leading its way to me.

One last stumble for me.
My knees graze the rocks.
My fingers climb the steps,
Digging deep into the dirt.

I turn one last time.
The dark one stands up.
Becoming taller and straighter.
On two feet it stands tall.

Its yellow eyes glimmer black.
No whiskers to follow my scent.
White skin for black fur.
Laughter falls from its lips.

He has come for me one last time.
He walks on muscled legs.
Sure and strong is his gait.
For no more does he crawl.

"Come to me!" he says.
"No more games for us to play."
His hand reaches for mine
As I wait for this game to end.

"I refuse to belong to you."
My voice shakes in despair.
I will not be a follower
Of The Dead and long gone.

The house swallows me whole.
I am hidden inside its walls.
A maze of rooms for shelter.
Darkness to shield me from harm.

OUR GAMES HAVE JUST BEGUN --- THE DEAD GAME --- PART 44

The sun's bloody tears
Drip red into the clear blue ocean.
Soon all will be red.
Even the white, fluffy clouds overhead.

The sun has reached its end.
It can no longer shine with warmth.
It will hold its head high for one last show,
Before the bloody explosion.

There will be no more sunlight.
No softly swaying clouds.
Only the moon and its cold touch
To lead the way.

No way to distinguish one day from the next.
Time will have no markings.
No differentiation.
Time will continue the same way forever.

No seasons to look forward to.
No holidays or birthdays.
Only the cold and endless nights.
And no sunshine.

The Dead hate the light.
They hate the sun and clouds.
The moon is their guardian,
Who will vanquish their enemies and seize the day.

Wherever I run I find bloody footsteps.
I'm trapped in a paradise lost to the unnatural,
Lost to the cold predator with no conscience.
How could I have let this happen?

I've been fooled too many times by Wolf.
He acts human and caring.
He has even showed me passion.
I must remember he's not human.

I hear him calling my name,
Like dust in the wind.
I refuse to answer.
He will not woo me or hypnotize me.

The war is on.
We will fight to the death.
No one will steal our town
Without a battle.

Angel Sefer Presenting Susanne Leist, Author of The Dead Game

Excerpt from the exciting paranormal mystery/thriller, The Dead Game by Susanne Leist

Excerpt:
Linda was passing the empty tables by the tall windows when she felt her arm being tugged—very hard. Before she could react, she found herself being forcibly dragged through the open patio doors and onto the isolated garden path. She came face to face with the mighty Wolf and his trusted companion, Hayden. The grounds were deserted. Everyone had left the gardens and she was all alone with the two wicked vampires.
Wolf glared at Hayden. “Please let go of her arm; we are not animals. We never force ourselves on women.”
“Chivalry among demons—I’m very impressed. Too bad your table manners and choice of dishes leave a lot to be desired,” Linda said. Her hatred of Wolf had just caused her to forget her low position in the food chain; she closed her mouth to stop herself from talking. In the future, she must remember that he was a vampire—the strongest one in the world—and that he could easily destroy her at any time.
Wolf didn’t seem the least bit focused on her. “I didn’t come here to play parlor games with you. I need you to convince Todd to join with us. He can never be human or will ever be accepted by them. He belongs with us. He must stick with his own kind.”
“He’s not like you in any way at all: he cares too deeply for people and is loyal to his friends. On the other hand, you and your kind enjoy killing too much and have no feelings whatsoever.”
“Todd will never be accepted by humans or by his own kind. He will be an outcast with nowhere to go. He must join with us.”
“Todd is human and will always be accepted by humans.”
“Let’s kill her now, boss. She’s going to be trouble. I could take her away and no one will ever see her again,” Hayden said, grabbing hold of her arm again.
Oops, she did it again. Her big mouth had now sealed her fate. She had to learn how to be more assertive without getting herself into trouble.
Wolf strolled over to her with a wicked gleam surfacing in his eyes.
“I have a much better use for her in the future. When she finally comes to her senses, she’ll realize that she will be better off with a real vampire with limitless powers than with a pathetic human. She’ll learn about intoxicating love and passion—not the games that humans play that pale in comparison.
Here comes the human. Let her go for now.”
Linda was horrified to find herself wrapped in Wolf’s strong, muscular arms. She became hypnotized by his black eyes and tempted by his deep voice. He seemed perfect in every way. She only wanted to be with him.
“I’ll be back for you.” Wolf held her tight against his body and whispered in her ear. “I love the way you stand up to me with your flashing blue eyes. Soon you’ll be mine, my beautiful ice queen.”
Linda couldn’t move her body. She was stuck in some kind of trance…she couldn’t leave; didn’t want to leave if given the choice. His voice soothed her and made her think of love, passion, and great need: a need that could be satisfied only by him with his expert hands and mouth. She knew that one day she was going to be with him, to be joined with him.
He lowered his mouth onto hers and drew her into a swirling haze of unexpected feelings and desires. His mouth fully covering hers introduced her to a new realm of pure pleasure. His powerful form enveloped her, making her feel feelings that were foreign and untried for her. She couldn’t get enough of him. She tentatively began touching his face and then his body with an eager and unrelenting hunger. She didn’t know what she needed, but she knew that she wanted and desired this beautiful man standing right before her. Her past life was washed out of her mind, never to be considered again. She begged him to take her with him tonight. In response, Wolf lifted her in his arms, as if she weighed nothing, and turned to leave the party. His beautiful face looked victorious and happy. His black eyes filled with passion. She hoped that it was because of her. He looked down into her small face and gave a hearty roar.
While Wolf carried her in his powerful arms, a dark shadow swooped out of the house and flew directly at them. Linda was knocked out of his arms, and Wolf was thrown across the patio.
She looked up to see who had attacked them. It was Todd, his eyes a deadly shade of green, standing there panting.
Linda backed away in horror. Todd’s eyes cleared and returned to their original dark color. Then he looked at her. “Don’t ever be afraid of me. I’m here to protect you.”
Then he was struck down by Wolf.
They began circling each other like two wild animals. Todd thrust his body at Wolf, causing Wolf to lose his balance, and they crashed together to the ground. Wolf pushed Todd aside and stood back up. He lunged at Todd, who sidestepped his maneuver. Todd retaliated by lifting him high up in the air and flinging him through one of the glass doors to the house. Wolf rose up and dusted glass off his clothing.
He said to Todd, who stood before him, “We are not anywhere near finished, my dear friend. The next battle between us will be more private—without so many witnesses. If I were you, I would watch your back…and your pretty little girlfriend.” Wolf stalked away with Hayden following close behind. Todd quickly followed.
Linda was left standing alone outside. She felt bereft without the touch of Wolf’s lips on hers and the solid strength of his arms holding her. She had felt the unmistakable pull by him on all her senses. In his arms, she’d felt weak and needy—as if she needed him to live. Todd and Wolf were extremely powerful and both had taken hold of her senses.

I hope you enjoyed this exciting excerpt. Here is the blurb:

Book 1 in Series

Can you feel your heart beating? Is it beating too fast? Do you feel trapped? This is because you are. You're standing in a pool of water, in the basement of End House, wearing your party clothes. But there is no party, no host and no guests. The door behind you locks shut. The only way is forward, through the falling cages with their sharp edges, ready to ensnare their next victim. Circular saws begin to descend, looking for heads to slice off.

Meanwhile, Linda is upstairs with the rest of her friends being pursued by creatures through revolving rooms. Or are they illusions? What should she do?

Run!

The owner of End House takes no prisoners.

The Dead Game has begun.

Sounds enticing. Doesn't it?

Note from the Author:
I've been reading murder mysteries and thrillers since I was a teenager. I've read all types of mysteries, from Agatha Christie to Sherlock Holmes. In recent years, I've begun to read paranormal mysteries. These books bring fantasy and the surreal to the simple murder mystery. It's hard to find books in this genre. That is why I decided to write a paranormal, murder mystery of my own. It is the type of book that I search for and love to read.
My book, The Dead Game, has dead bodies and suspects like a traditional murder mystery. However, it also has humans, vampires, and vampire derivatives. And don't forget the haunted house—we must have one of these.

OUR GAMES HAVE JUST BEGUN --- THE DEAD GAME --- PART 43

The moon lowers its head in defeat.
Blood on its white hands,
Mirrored in the ocean below.

How could it have known
That night brings with it shadows?
Dark shadows of death and sorrow.

The night walkers move in silence.
Creeping along the white sand
And through the dark forest.

Night brings its own baggage,
Its own dark clothes and weapons.
Blood glistening from its fangs.

Where can I hide from the night?
The sand leaves my footsteps
And the air holds my scent.

The shadows leave no footsteps.
No sounds or sighs.
Silence walks in its wake.

But I can sense its power.
Like fingers raking through my hair,
Hot breath on the back of my neck.

I've reached a dead end.
End House stands before me,
In all its evil and darkness.

I will join the others inside.
We will fight to the death
To rid the town of night's evil.

OUR GAMES HAVE JUST BEGUN --- THE DEAD GAME --- PART 42

No where to hide from his wrath.
Hot rain washes the red away.
Hail rains down upon us in sheets.
We've become moving targets.

The Town Halls offers no shelter.
Bright lights sweep the dusty floor.
The winds duck inside for shelter.
Thunder pounds against the locked windows.

We must fight this unnatural army,
Who uses the forces of nature as weapons.
Thunder to crash through buildings,
And lightning to burn down the town.

Wolf has his schemes and tricks.
He plays with illusions and magic.
But this time we will be ready.
No army will get through us.

OUR GAMES HAVE JUST BEGUN --- THE DEAD GAME --- PART 41

My stroll has turned into more
Than a mere walk in the park.
The peace and quiet is cut short.

The skies rumble and open up,
Releasing their pent up anger.
Their distress echoing through town.

Hot tears fall to the ground,
Cascading through the colors
Reflected from above.

An army of black clouds
Move into place,
Ready to attack.

Flashes of light hit the streets.
I follow its path to the Town Hall.
A building lit from within.

The winds have joined the game.
Swirling gusts directed at my face,
Fingers holding me back in time and place.

No one can stop me now.
I will find out what is causing
Hell to reign down upon us.

OUR GAMES HAVE JUST BEGUN --- THE DEAD GAME --- PART 40

What lies hidden beneath End House?
Familiar faces and bony countenances.
A cacophony of moans and sounds.

A community of creatures living in the tunnels.
Friends who might be returning to the living,
Or the living who might be joining The Dead.

David grabs hold of Tom's hand,
One of his long lost friends.
Tom stands stiff and tall, not responding.

Howard shuffles forward.
Howard had been the daring one,
The one who had saved Tom from the dark pool.

The town looks like Oasis,
With its beaches, stores, cafes, parks, and hotel.
In the distance, the forest looms dark and forbidding.

But where are the people?
The stores stand empty.
"There, they are!" Linda calls out.

A large group walks down Main Street.
No smiles crossing their deathly pale faces.
No emotions from these sad replicas of humanity.

Something is wrong.
No one is happy to see us.
"Let's get out of here!" Linda yells.

The group before them lurches forward,
Arms extended like bare branches in the winter cold.
Her friends back up in fear.

"But they're our friends!" Mike says,
"We can't leave them here,"
His eyes pleading for help.

Linda drags him away from the red-eyed mob.
"Our friends are gone.
These aren't are friends any longer."

A man grabs hold of Louise's long hair.
She lets loose a heart-wrenching cry,
Frightening the pale creature away.

Linda takes one last look at Oasis.
They look like members of our town,
But yet they don't.

The door slams shut,
Separating them from the empty shells.
Linda follows her friends out of the dark.

Goodbye to Wolf and your demented band of followers.
I can't believe that I had been tempted by you.
Thank god we escaped in time.

OUR GAMES HAVE JUST BEGUN --- THE DEAD GAME --- PART 39

Take me to the other side,
Where right is wrong
And wrong rules the day.

The door creaks open for us,
But should we walk through?
Will we find our answers?

Linda grasps David's hand,
Hiding behind his tall body.
Mike and Shana follow close behind.

The ground continues to shake.
The walls grumble with rage.
Bricks fall too close to her head.

Darkness peers back at them
From the other side,
A quivering body of blackness.

Dark shadows move
And sway with the music.
Music they can only hear.

David steps through the doorway.
He stops and opens his arms wide.
A soft sigh escapes his lips.

People move through the shadows,
Moving together as one.
A light from above highlights their faces.

It can't be!
I must be living a dream
Or maybe a nightmare.

Linda shakes her head.
She will not go inside.
The game is over for her.

OUR GAMES HAVE JUST BEGUN --- THE DEAD GAME --- PART 38

What happened to the colorful flowers?
Have they fled town with the cowardly sun?
In the encroaching darkness,
Only red stands out in its many costumes.

Red is the color of the falls behind town,
Where pink taffeta shields its cold fingers.
Red is the color of windows of End House,
Hiding the horrors waiting inside.

With its dying embers the sun bleeds red,
Packing its bags for a final goodbye.
Its tears mark the white sand with red gashes,
Tracking its sad journey into the unknown.

Red are the eyes of the great Wolf,
Watching the town prepare for him.
He keeps his distance until all is ready,
Until all are ready to accept him as ruler.

Gone are the joyous times of parties.
Gone are the sounds of laughter and giggles.
Now comes the time of battles to be fought,
Allies to be made, and enemies to be killed.

Wolf has brought this upon Oasis,
A town content to live in the light of the sun,
Happy to be human and alive.
It is too late to go back.

Time moves on.
And so do The Dead.
Once Oasis is conquered,
The world will be next.

Who will stop them?
Who can stop them?
Linda wants to know.
She needs to know.

Time will only tell.
The stage is set.
The die is cast.
All that's left for us
To do is wait.

OUR GAMES HAVE JUST BEGUN --- THE DEAD GAME --- PART 37

Run but you cannot hide.
Todd will be mine to find.
No light will shine today,
Only darkness to wield the day.

I wave my wand of lightning,
Bang my drums of thunder.
My mouth breathes puffs of fire,
My soul is pure black.

I come to you as a tornado,
Twisting in the wind,
Gathering force along the way
To strike with the arm of a god.

Your smell entices me.
It leads me to your side.
What was once human
Will soon be a follower of mine.

Linda might adore your sickly beauty,
A facade of a true vampire.
A mere human vampire is no match
For the perfect beauty of mine.

Stand back as I unleash my minions,
Who will crush you with pellets of hail,
Sharp bullets into your human heart,
A stampede of thrashing winds and fire.

Come to me to fulfill your destiny,
As one of my own army.
As a follower and not a competitor,
Leaving only one choice for you to make.

OUR GAMES HAVE JUST BEGUN --- THE DEAD GAME --- PART 36

Time for us to explore.
Time to find out what is hidden inside.
The Watchers are vampires
And so might be the residents of this mansion.

Linda's thoughts run wild in her head.
Too many players, too many suspects,
To help them solve the mystery.
A mystery that could easily end their existence.

A tall man approaches us,
Flanked by two Dobermans.
His black eyes watch us closely,
Forcing me to turn my gaze away.

Shana looks as troubled as I am.
Maybe she'll give up on her silly idea,
And we could leave this creepy place.
I don't want to pursue any vampires.

The man offers to give us a tour of his house.
Shana is excited as she accepts his offer.
I stand back, not eager to enter this place.
I turn to leave, but Shana takes my hand.

"Please, Linda, let's go inside.
I want to find out who lives here."
A smile covers Shana's face,
A sweet smile created just for me.

The man walks toward the front door
Through the fallen leaves and flying dust balls.
Only weeds grow in the yard.
The man doesn't seem to care.

Shana pulls Linda through the front doorway.
A marble foyer greets them
With a high-domed ceiling and crystal sconces.
A drastic change from the gloominess outside.

Beautifully furnished bedrooms.
A library larger than any other.
Priceless masterpieces showcased throughout.
It doesn't feel real to Linda but a dream.

Time to leave this house of contradictions,
Balancing the fine line between the living and the dead.
The caretaker watches us from the front door
As we walk through the decrepit garden,
Happy to be back with the living.

"Linda, the caretaker has to be a vampire.
No one can live all by themselves in such a big house.
No servants, no food, only books.
The Watchers must be watching him!"

"That must be it.
A Watcher is always sitting in that rocking chair,
Keeping an eye on the mansion.
If the Watchers are good, then the caretaker must be bad."

"Linda, you don't know that.
The Watchers could be bad,
Making the caretaker the good one.
There's no rule book to explain this new game."

"We shouldn't trust any of them.
We need more information.
We need help.
I'm done doing this alone anymore."

"Linda, do you want to involve Todd and the Sheriff?
I thought you didn't trust them.
We've been going in circles,
Not coming up with any answers."

"I trust Todd and Sam much more than
The older residents, The Watchers, or that caretaker.
We must come up with a plan,
A good one this time.

"We have our work cut out for us.
And Shana, no more fancy plans.
We plan smart and go in together this time.
This must end once and for all."

OUR GAMES HAVE JUST BEGUN --- THE DEAD GAME --- PART 35

Brutal winds follow close on my heels,
Thunder and lightning joining the crusade.
Fluorescent lights paint the night sky,
Rings of orange, yellow, and red.

A vortex of horror in unending circles,
Making its way to the small town of Oasis,
Where I will be waiting with sword in hand,
Secure in the knowledge that Wolf won't win.

The Watchers have joined the battle.
I can see them on the hill beyond.
Their raincoats flapping in the wind,
Concealing their hidden weapons.

We will protect Linda from the devil,
All standing strong in the fighting winds.
The Father clutches his bible of spells
To help cast the evil from our town.

Humans, vampires, and human vampires.
We have come together as one.
The last battle on this earthly planet
That will determine the fate of us all.

Linda holds on to her friends,
Huddled together in the raging winds.
Will she choose wisely and correctly?
Will she choose me above The Dead?

The time has come for the showdown.
Time has slowed to a halt.
We raise our weapons above our heads,
Waiting for evil to make its final appearance.

Wolf seems to have been given a new body.
I still recognize his deadly soul.
A new package for an old one
Does not change the battle to be won.

Our games have just begun.

THE DEAD GAME

OUR GAMES HAVE JUST BEGUN --- THE DEAD GAME --- PART 34

My passions run deep.
My hatred grows strong.
My revenge lasts forever.

Don't cross me.
Don't anger me.
And don't ever taunt me.

I am Wolf.

Todd has crossed me once.
His days are now limited.
His time with Linda is at its end.

I will shadow his every move,
Haunt his nightmares,
And kill him in his sleep.

The winds will charge at my command.
Fires of hell will burn hot for me.
Ocean waves will dance my every tune.

I am Wolf.

Come with me, my companions.
Todd will rue the day he was born.
We will attack once the sun has gone to sleep.

Once she has hidden her bright face.
A face too cheerful and hot.
A face soon to be forgotten.

For the night will rule the day.
And the moon will lead the way.
Nature must attack in the dark.

Let us dance in the moonlight.
Drink from the waves of the ocean.
And warm ourselves in the fires of hell.

I am Wolf.

The battle will be won,
Death served on a platter for the white prince.
Linda will soon be mine.

My cold fingers will run down her hot body.
She will wake to the sight of my glowing eyes.
She will experience passion not human.
And she will yearn for much more.

The dark prince will take her in his arms
And place her on his black steed.
They will ride off into the sunset,
Leaving memories of her old life far behind.

Our games have just begun.

I had the best surprise today. A fellow author had asked me if I would allow him to read my book on his podcast. I said, "sure." Many people have offered promotions but most don't turn into anything. This time it turned out better than any of my expectations.

I never listened to a podcast before, so I didn't know what to expect. I tuned in. A man with a melodic voice and an English accent was speaking. He introduced himself. When I heard "The Dead Game by Susanne Leist," I felt tears spring to my eyes. I was so proud and also embarrassed.

There I was, sitting alone in my house, embarrassed about someone reading my book. It's been hard enough to find friends and family members willing to read it, but having someone read it out loud was mind-boggling for me. I closed my eyes and listened.

I  became the reader, listening to the story for the first time. By the changing tone of his voice, I was able to tell that he understood the feelings behind the words. He got it! No one was home. I couldn't yell out that someone was reading my book. I was bubbling over inside.

Not only was I able to see the story through someone's eyes, I was able to detect the strengths and weaknesses in my writing. It's one thing to read the story out loud to yourself, but it's a whole other experience to have someone read it to you. I'm sure this experience will help to make me into a better writer. Thank you, Beren Hollins: Author, Podcaster.

OUR GAMES HAVE JUST BEGUN --- THE DEAD GAME --- PART 33

The growling follows us outside
Down the rickety stairs to the beach.
Laughter mixes in the howling wind,
Hot breath swirling around our necks.

Shadows fly at us on gossamer wings,
Tracking out halting journey downward.
Darkness hides the beach below,
Sandy cushions awaiting our final fall.

I fly with the wind to land on pillows,
Shaking their pixie dust into my eyes.
I leave Mike and David on the stairs
As I race down the deserted walkway.

Moans mix with the laughing wind
As prayers for help fill my troubled mind.
Hope finally triumphs over despair,
Pushing me forward to my journey's end.

A shove has me thrown into the park,
Where a noose waits for my neck.
Hooded creatures circle the gazebo,
An appropriate place for my last stand.

Our games have just begun.
