WORDS TO LIVE BY

1

This is why we write.
Why we put words down on paper.
Hoping someone will read them.
Enjoy them.
Be inspired by them.
We must keep writing.
Until we can’t hold the pen any longer.
And we lay our heads down for the last time.

TAKE A SEAT

TAKE A SEAT

Take a seat under the tree,
Where you can feel proud and free.
Crafty and free as the mighty red fox,
Who refuses to live in a box.

Freedom should never be taken lightly.
It must be revered and taken sprightly.
The fox is anxious and waiting for your choice.
Do you want to live in a box with no voice?
Come sit beside the fox in the shade.
Flowers grow here and not one a spade.
The smell so sweet and fragrant.
All friends and not one vagrant.
Close your eyes and feel the breeze.
Your writing will come with ease.
The words will flow from your pen.
Stories for women and men.
Take a nap in the meadow.
Life can be sweet and mellow.
You’ll wake up with a smile.
Eager to walk a mile.
Find your perfect spot to be.
Let your imagination free.
A place that makes you feel just right.
Your senses will know what to write.

WORDS BELONG INSIDE

Don’t let moss grow between your keys.
No webs to swirl around the letters.
Greenery belongs outside.
Words belong inside.
On the page.
In the book.

MY INTERVIEW ON "WRITE BITCHES" BY KAYTI NIKA RAET

Why I Write What I Write #17: Susanne Leist #WriteBitches

http://writebitches.com/2015/10/19/why-i-write-what-i-write-17-susanne-leist-writebitches/

Susanne Leist is a fellow Brooklynite I bumped into after teaming with a bunch of authors for an epic Halloween book party we have planned. Luckily she’s nice enough to allow me to drag her way down deep to my neck of the woods and share with us why she writes what she writes.

TO BE OR NOT TO BE

To be or not to be a writer.
This has been the hardest question for me.
Should I continue with my pursuit?
Or step away and claim defeat?
One book written.
One book sold.
It dances around on Amazon and Nook.
It reaches new heights in its niche
And then it slowly bows its head in silence.
The highs feel good and lofty,
While the lows feel depressing and sad.
Is it worth it?
Is it worth the aggravation?
I am told that a writer must keep writing.
More books to dance around.
More highs and lows.
Should I keep doing this?
Will I keep doing this?
Yes, for now
As I wait for the next high.

BIO

I have always loved to read books. My goal has been to write a book different than any other book that I’ve read. And I believe I have accomplished this. The Dead Game has dead bodies and suspects like a traditional murder mystery. However, it also has humans, vampires, and vampire derivatives. It has plenty of romance and thrills. And don’t forget the haunted house–we must have one of these.

I had the best surprise today. A fellow author had asked me if I would allow him to read my book on his podcast. I said, "sure." Many people have offered promotions but most don't turn into anything. This time it turned out better than any of my expectations.

I never listened to a podcast before, so I didn't know what to expect. I tuned in. A man with a melodic voice and an English accent was speaking. He introduced himself. When I heard "The Dead Game by Susanne Leist," I felt tears spring to my eyes. I was so proud and also embarrassed.

There I was, sitting alone in my house, embarrassed about someone reading my book. It's been hard enough to find friends and family members willing to read it, but having someone read it out loud was mind-boggling for me. I closed my eyes and listened.

I  became the reader, listening to the story for the first time. By the changing tone of his voice, I was able to tell that he understood the feelings behind the words. He got it! No one was home. I couldn't yell out that someone was reading my book. I was bubbling over inside.

Not only was I able to see the story through someone's eyes, I was able to detect the strengths and weaknesses in my writing. It's one thing to read the story out loud to yourself, but it's a whole other experience to have someone read it to you. I'm sure this experience will help to make me into a better writer. Thank you, Beren Hollins: Author, Podcaster.

A Perfect Place To Be

A place to reflect and write,
Where the cold wouldn’t dare to bite.
I would lie down and close my eyes,
And listen to the windswept cries.
Creatures would circle my dome.
Maybe I will see a gnome.
Such stories I would create.
Tales of loss, love, and hate.
A snow globe just for me.
A perfect place to be.

A LONG HARD ROAD

tumblr_n7dyjasZdU1renu7bo1_500

If I had known it was going to be so hard,
I might have thought twice about writing my book.
We must promote our books daily.
But there are not enough hours in a day.
We must be expert jugglers.
Experts at writing, blogging, and juggling.
I must learn this dance.
This high-wire walk.
This never-ending battle.
I must learn to juggle.
I will do it.
I will do it all.
Just give me a chance.
Book two is being written.
I feel free.
I feel empowered.
I will survive.
James Patterson, eat my dust.

WHY DO WE WRITE?

WHY DO WE WRITE?

Why do we dream?
Our minds want more.
We want to explore the world.
We want to explore the unknown.

If we can't fulfill our dreams in our daily lives,
Then we can fulfill them in our writing.
We can write short stories and novels
About evil creatures and deadly games.

That is exactly what I have done.
I picked an exotic locale.
I picked Florida.
Not exactly exotic but it has palm trees.

I grew up in a big city
But always wanted to live in a small town.
I created a small town
And called it, Oasis.

I created the main character to be me.
I love books and bookstores.
The main character moves to Oasis
And opens a bookstore/coffee shop.

You get the idea.
The main character, Linda,
Is living my dream life.
She makes friends and is happy.

Then my mind turns darker.
Life is too good for Linda.
I create a dark life for Oasis.
At night, the town turns deadly.

The wealthy residents live in a forest.
They come out at night.
Do you see where this is going?
If not, you can always read The Dead Game.

I finally got my small town
By the shore,
Where fantasies come true,
And some just don't.

ODE TO MY BOOK

Nothing can be as fine

As the dear book of mine.

It might not be sold in a big bookstore,

But you will not find one to offer more.

It was created with much love and hope,

Even though it wasn't blessed by a Pope.

It has my blood, sweat, and tears.

Might raise many of your fears.

It has action, murder, and romance.

I can even do a little dance.

Please try it and you'll see

It has the best of me.

A BOOK IS A TREASURE

A long journey to become an author.
Days of soul searching and hard work.
The words need to be enticing and clear.
A bridge to the reader's heart.

A movie camera sweeps across scenes.
So does a book's point of view.
One point of view shows one angle.
Changing points of view can reveal many more.

To be lost in a book is truly a gift.
An escape from the mundane and boring.
A visit to far away places.
An adventure to open your mind's eye.

Once completed, a book is a treasure.
A symbol of an author's hopes and dreams.
A confectioner's delight to be tasted and savored.
To be remembered by many or just a few.

THE BOOK

THE BOOK

Please take a closer look.
Something’s wrong with this book.
The words have come alive.
Breaking free to survive.
They are bursting forth with pride.
Smoke is pouring out from inside.
Words need to be loved and shared
And not forced alone and scared.
Let the stories come out and play.
They will serve to brighten your day.

INSIDE

unmotivating:

INSIDE

A stack of books.
A pile of papers.
Words on a page.
Letters.
Poems.
Chapters.
Meaningless?
Or full of meaning?
Look inside.
Delve deep inside.
Inside the author’s thoughts.
His insights.
Hidden meanings.
And find the world.

TO BE ME

archann:
Archan Nair - New Illustration titled “ Hue “

I feel lost and confused.
I feel dizzy and unsure of myself.
My mind is being pulled
in opposite directions.
What do I want?
What is the most important
thing for me to do?
After my family,
I need time for me.
To figure out what I want.
I want to create.
To throw paint on a wall.
Not really.
I want to keep writing.
To write my blog and
my next book.
Everyone leave me alone.
I want to write.

FILL THE PAGES

Fill in the pages.
Fill the pages with
words and stories.
The world does not
have to be dark.
It does not have to be dreary.
We do not have to be alone.
We need to fill our lives with
people and events.
Stories to tell our children.
Words to light our paths.
No hovering in the darkness,
waiting for our time to come to an end.
But we need to stand in the light
and enjoy life.
It is short and precious.
But it is our right to fill in the pages.

PICTURES TO LIFE

º♪☀♫°✿Imaginile, Vorbesc, Transmit º♪☀♫°✿

Beautiful pictures of nature inspire us.
They delight and intrigue us.
They inspire me to write.
Words are empty unless they bring
pictures to life.

A BOOK

A book will have blank pages
unless you write in it.
It needs to hear you inner
thoughts and desires.
It needs to follow a story,
a path to an ending.
Characters to fill the pages.
Words to brighten the pages
from black to white.
Words that can be shared by all.

A NEW DAY

Rain washes away all impurities.
It leaves the ground fresh and new.
The fragrance of grass and flowers
floats in the clean air.
A good time to create and write.
A good time to start anew.
A new day for all.
