A Desert Landscape

Source:fascination--infatuation

A Desert Landscape
My mind is a desert landscape,
full of worries and contradictions.
It blasts away any chance of peace,
keeping me awake seeking sleep.
Thoughts are jumbled in the cobwebs,
lining the halls of my utter despair.
Bells ring in these curved walls,
warnings for me to take care.
Once one hole is filled in,
another one soon emerges.
A shovel will not do the job
to keep me safe from my pride.
A better state of mind is needed
to repair the damage already done.
My mind is a desert landscape,
full of worries and contradictions.

THIS WALL

 THIS WALL
Words fill the crevices of my mind.
Emotions that are too hard to find.
Love poetry trembles from my lips.
Your passion I can bear in small sips.
Behind closed eyes, I can still see your face.
Hard features I cannot seem to erase.
Filled pages fall from my open fingers.
The unspoken love sonnet still lingers.
Maybe I should burn my wall of pages
To help clear my mind of these wild rages.

THE MIND’S EYE

The mind’s eye.
What can you see in a person’s eyes?
Can you see a glimpse of their emotions?
Maybe a little sadness with
a drop of anger thrown in.
What about happiness
and a sparkle of laughter?
Eyes are portals to our souls.
They accurately reveal
who we really are.
We can hide in our words
and facial expressions,
but we can’t hide our eyes.
Liars are said to look to the left
as they recount their false tales.
So the next time you’re speaking
with someone,
check their eyes.
See if their eyes
match their words.
I bet they won’t.

OUR GAMES HAVE JUST BEGUN --- THE DEAD GAME --- PART 40

What lies hidden beneath End House?
Familiar faces and bony countenances.
A cacophony of moans and sounds.

A community of creatures living in the tunnels.
Friends who might be returning to the living,
Or the living who might be joining The Dead.

David grabs hold of Tom's hand,
One of his long lost friends.
Tom stands stiff and tall, not responding.

Howard shuffles forward.
Howard had been the daring one,
The one who had saved Tom from the dark pool.

The town looks like Oasis,
With its beaches, stores, cafes, parks, and hotel.
In the distance, the forest looms dark and forbidding.

But where are the people?
The stores stand empty.
"There, they are!" Linda calls out.

A large group walks down Main Street.
No smiles crossing their deathly pale faces.
No emotions from these sad replicas of humanity.

Something is wrong.
No one is happy to see us.
"Let's get out of here!" Linda yells.

The group before them lurches forward,
Arms extended like bare branches in the winter cold.
Her friends back up in fear.

"But they're our friends!" Mike says,
"We can't leave them here,"
His eyes pleading for help.

Linda drags him away from the red-eyed mob.
"Our friends are gone.
These aren't are friends any longer."

A man grabs hold of Louise's long hair.
She lets loose a heart-wrenching cry,
Frightening the pale creature away.

Linda takes one last look at Oasis.
They look like members of our town,
But yet they don't.

The door slams shut,
Separating them from the empty shells.
Linda follows her friends out of the dark.

Goodbye to Wolf and your demented band of followers.
I can't believe that I had been tempted by you.
Thank god we escaped in time.

ON/OFF SWITCH

Wouldn’t it be easier if there was an
on/off switch for our emotions?
When life was going our way,
we could just leave the switch on.
If something bad were to happen,
we could switch to off.
But if our emotions were off, we might
not be able to distinguish the good from the bad.
Easier might not be the answer.

TEARS OF A CLOWN

Who are we?
What are we?
What do our faces
reveal about ourselves?
If we smile, does that
mean we’re happy?
If we cry, are we really
that sad?
Do we exaggerate our feelings
for the better effect?
Yes, we all do.
Take a closer look at the next
person who laughs or cries
before a captive audience.
See if they are showing true emotions
or just emoting for the benefit of others.

WHAT'S IN MY HEAD?

What’s in my head?
Do you see anything?
Can you see my hidden thoughts?
Some people can hide their thoughts,
while others have every thought
plastered on their face.
I’d rather be with someone who’s
an open book than a secretive and
closed minded one.

Can you see my hidden thoughts?
Some people can hide their thoughts,

NO ONE IS HOME

DO YOU EVER FEEL THAT YOU ARE
LOOKING INTO SOMEONE’S EYES
AND NOBODY IS HOME.
HE’S NOT LISTENING YOU.
HE’S LOOKING AROUND THE ROOM.
HE’S ONLY CONCERNED ABOUT HIMSELF.
HE HAS NO SOUL BUT IS AN EMPTY SHELL.
IT IS UNFORTUNATE BUT THIS HAPPENS
WAY TOO OFTEN.
DO YOU EVER FEEL YOU ARE
LOOKING INTO SOMEONE’S EYES
AND NOBODY IS HOME.
HE’S NOT LISTENING YOU.
HE’S LOOKING AROUND THE ROOM.
HE’S ONLY CONCERNED ABOUT HIMSELF.
HE HAS NO SOUL BUT IS AN EMPTY SHELL.
IT'S UNFORTUNATE BUT THIS HAPPENS
WAY TOO OFTEN.

ACT OF KINDNESS

This is the picture that touches my heart. It represents the kindness that we as humans have within. It also represents the helplessness we feel at times.
The fact that someone is willing to help this helpless animal gives me hope for all mankind.
