OUR GAMES HAVE JUST BEGUN --- THE DEAD GAME --- PART 40
What lies hidden beneath End House?
Familiar faces and bony countenances.
A cacophony of moans and sounds.
A community of creatures living in the tunnels.
Friends who might be returning to the living,
Or the living who might be joining The Dead.
David grabs hold of Tom's hand,
One of his long lost friends.
Tom stands stiff and tall, not responding.
Howard shuffles forward.
Howard had been the daring one,
The one who had saved Tom from the dark pool.
The town looks like Oasis,
With its beaches, stores, cafes, parks, and hotel.
In the distance, the forest looms dark and forbidding.
But where are the people?
The stores stand empty.
"There, they are!" Linda calls out.
A large group walks down Main Street.
No smiles crossing their deathly pale faces.
No emotions from these sad replicas of humanity.
Something is wrong.
No one is happy to see us.
"Let's get out of here!" Linda yells.
The group before them lurches forward,
Arms extended like bare branches in the winter cold.
Her friends back up in fear.
"But they're our friends!" Mike says,
"We can't leave them here,"
His eyes pleading for help.
Linda drags him away from the red-eyed mob.
"Our friends are gone.
These aren't are friends any longer."
A man grabs hold of Louise's long hair.
She lets loose a heart-wrenching cry,
Frightening the pale creature away.
Linda takes one last look at Oasis.
They look like members of our town,
But yet they don't.
The door slams shut,
Separating them from the empty shells.
Linda follows her friends out of the dark.
Goodbye to Wolf and your demented band of followers.
I can't believe that I had been tempted by you.
Thank god we escaped in time.

OUR GAMES HAVE JUST BEGUN ----- PART 3
"Hail is raining down from the sky!
Hell is reigning down from above!"
Linda races through the pummeled streets,
Dodging pieces of roof tops and garbage cans.
"How could this be happening?
The sun was out just minutes ago.
I smell fire.
My skin feels burning hot."
Her feet slow to a stop.
Linda lifts her head to the black sky.
Flames are shooting out of the church.
Red hot flames with swirls of yellow and orange.
Cries of horror float in the air around her.
Shrieks and moans that are lifted in the rising winds.
She turns around in a circle,
Desperate to locate the source.
"It's coming from the Town Hall!"
I knew it!
Everybody has to be there.
Please god let them be there."
The cries rise in intensity
With each footstep.
The front doors are open.
Darkness beckons from within.
The sight inside knocks the breathe from her lungs.
Flying creatures are circling her friends.
Creatures with furry bodies and human faces.
One swoops down and lifts Shana up to the ceiling.
"The Dead are here.
What should I do?
Wait! Father John is chanting.
Will he be able to save us?"

OUR GAMES HAVE JUST BEGUN -- PART 2
"Why has the town turned so dark?
I must find my friends.
But where could everyone be hiding?
The lights are on but the stores are empty.
We're definitely in trouble this time.
The Dead aren't going to play fair.
They're determined to destroy us,
But we are just as determined.
First, I must find Shana.
She'll know what to do.
She always has a plan."
The wind follows Linda down the side streets.
It is becoming impatient with her,
Whipping her hair around her face.
Colors explode around her.
She turns to find the Town Hall on fire.
"Could this be where everyone is hiding?
I must find The Watchers, Father John, and--"
An explosion rocks the town.
Bricks fall from crumbling walls.
"Am I too late?"

THE CARNIVAL OF NIGHTMARES

I open my eyes.
I find myself at a carnival.
A clown chases me into a tent.
Mirrors surround me.
My reflections stare back at me.
Is this real?
Or am I in a nightmare?
A nightmare of my own making?
I need to get back.
Back to End House.
The haunted house in the woods.
I’m in a dark room.
I can’t feel the walls.
The floor is wet.
A mirror is looming ahead.
I touch it.
My hand flows right through.
My body soon follows.
I’m in End House.
Or in a house resembling it.
Time to go down to the basement.
That’s where I was going.
Wasn’t I?
The basement is dark.
What happened to the light bulb?
The floor begins to turn.
I can’t get off.
Then I hear the laughter.
“I’m back.”

THE DEAD ARE HERE TO STAY
THE DEAD ARE HERE TO STAY
Look at the pretty sky.
Such beauty way up high.
Clouds drifting by so slowly
Like a shrine to what's holy.
All of this will soon come to an end.
Don't bother to search for a friend.
The moon will rise up in the night sky
Into the danger from what lurks high.
Dark shadows will descend onto the sand.
Shrieking louder than a marching band.
What do they want from our peaceful town?
Death and mayhem--all served with a frown.
Run for you life if you still can.
Danger for each and every man.
The Dead are here to stay.
They didn't come to play.

OASIS
OASIS
A more beautiful place cannot be.
It faces the waves of the dark sea.
White sand and quiet beaches galore.
You can’t ask for anything more.
Life is perfect as can be.
Come and frolic with me.
Tourists visit from far and wide.
Oasis is Florida’s pride.
Beware when The Dead descend.
We can no longer pretend
This is a perfect place to be
As The Dead rise up from the sea.
Darkness brings flying creatures and death.
Beware that this won’t be your last breath.

CREEPY, CREEPY, SCARY
Creepy, creepy, scary.
This can become hairy.
The house is haunted and dark.
I came on a simple lark.
But now that I'm here,
I'm frozen with fear.
A party is to be held for us all,
But to evil creatures we might just fall.
Down to the basement we go,
This is silly even I know.
Saws are swinging up ahead,
Looking to chop off a head.
Traps are falling from the low ceiling.
My wet feet are losing all feeling.
We are standing in a pool.
And I feel like a big fool.
We should have gone when we had a chance.
The creatures will make us sing and dance.
The Dead have a morbid sense of humor;
Should have listened to every rumor.
Goodbye to one and all.
I see the bouncing ball.

THE DEAD ARE COMING TO TOWN
THE DEAD ARE COMING TO TOWN
Do not come near.
I can see clear
The evil coming to town.
What is with the big frown?
You must leave right away.
The Dead have come to stay.
No one will be left alive.
A death for all who arrive.
Blood will rule the day.
Leave, you cannot stay
In a town slated for death.
Do not stop to take a breath.
Run now like the wind to safety.
Make sure your retreat is hasty.
I have come to warn you.
They will come for you.

IT'S YOUR DECISION
IT’S YOUR DECISION
To go forward.
Or back.
To take a chance.
Or the easy way out.
There is darkness ahead.
A strange silence.
A thick quiet.
Strange shadows.
The leaves are trembling.
Do they know something?
Should we go to the house?
The house in the dark forest.
What could we lose?
Only our lives.
The Dead Game has begun.

THE MIST

THE MIST
The mist.
The fog.
The air is heavy.
Encircling me.
In its heavy cocoon.
It’s growing.
Searching.
For whom?
For me?
I must leave.
Right now.
It’s following me.
Reaching for me.
There’s no escape.
They’re here.

ALL IS QUIET
whitechapelwitch:
Warily.
On soft footsteps.
Careful not to awaken the dead.
The Dead need their beauty sleep.
No reason to have them bothered.
The stars come out,
one by one.
The moon follows soon after.
All is quiet.
All is dark.
Until the owl rears its regal head.
Looks around.
And hoots in glee.
Too late.
The Dead are awake.
And ready to party.
Stay clear of Oasis, Florida.
For their parties can be deadly.

TRAPPED IN THE BASEMENT

The house is in a run-down area.
From the outside looking in,
I can’t see any lights or
signs of life.
There are screams and shouts
coming from other old houses in the area.
But this house has a deserted look to it.
Like no one has crossed its threshold in years.
But I have to enter.
A note has been sent to me
from someone trapped inside.
But why me?
I don’t know anyone from around here.
I’m all alone.
No one wanted to accompany me.
Am I signing my own death sentence?
Most probably I am.
But I move one foot in front of the other
as I slowly enter the dilapidated house.
The upstairs rooms appear to be empty shells,
where windows and walls have fallen in disrepair.
All there is left is the basement.
I open the door and could only see darkness.
And an awful rotting smell emanates from below.
I’m not going in. Enough is enough, I’m out of here.
A hard push from behind has me falling down the steep
steps to land on the cold, hard basement floor.
I look up at the the only source of light—
the light filtering through the opening of the door.
I can’t see anything or anyone.
Then the door slams shut.
The light is taken away from me.
Now all I can see is darkness.
Then I hear strange squeaking noises
and I feel creatures scurrying across my arm.
They must be rats. I hope they’re not hungry.
I crawl away from the sounds and hit something.
It has an arm and a leg. It feels like a person.
The person isn’t moving or breathing.
I feel around some more and locate his other limbs.
But something is wrong. He has no head.
There’s no blood anywhere, which is strange
considering the head’s been chopped off.
Then I heard groans coming from behind the body.
I could see shadows rising up from the ground.
They looked like people, but without heads.
I begin to crawl back to the stairs to get as far
away from these creatures as possible.
A hand reaches toward me and catches my foot.
It begins to pull me farther into the darkness.
I start screaming and shrieking.
The creatures seem to be getting angry.
They stand up and lurch toward me.
I’m out of control. I’m yelling at them
to leave me alone. I begin throwing objects at them.
I find a crow bar and throw it at a huge figure.
He goes down and begins to cry, “Stop, please stop.”
He sounds human.
The light turns on. I look around.
I’m looking at a room full of zombies, but
they are just staring at me.
The one I hit is sitting on the floor moaning to himself.
One zombie stands up and takes off his head.
Underneath the mask, I was face to face with the cutest boy from school.
"What’s going on?" I shriek at him.
"It is supposed to be a fun prank but it went wrong. No one is supposed to get hurt. It is a Halloween prank."
"The prank is only on me?" She asked.
"Yes, I’m sorry. No one else was brave enough to join you."
"I guess it wasn’t such a good idea," she said.
"Well, if you agree to be my date to the Halloween dance, then it wouldn’t have been for nothing."
"You’re kidding."
"No, I’m serious. We’d be great fun together."
He looks at her with his big blue eyes and she is lost.
"I don’t even know your name."
"My name is Brian and you’re Annie."
"Hi Brian. I guess it’s a date."
"Come Annie and help us clean up before we get into trouble. Then we could go somewhere to discuss the party." He takes her hand.
After the clean-up, she goes with Brian for coffee and donuts. She can’t believe how lucky she is even though she’d been almost scared to death. She still doesn’t know why the most popular boy in school wants her. Is there more to this prank that she didn’t know about yet?
