SHY CEMETERY

A cemetery so shy
the dead and gone pass it by.
The graves hide in shame
from its silly name.
No mausoleums to grace it,
or fine tombstones to enhance it.
Please stay away from here.
The dead don’t want you near.

MY INTERVIEW WITH JOHN TUCKER

John Tucker, a fellow author, interviewed me on his blog. It feels great to have your face pop on a blog. http://johntuckermustlive.wordpress.com/

Thank you, John Tucker.

BLOG INTERVIEW # 5 — With Susanne Leist

ImageToday I’m talking with a Masters Of Darkness alumni – Susanne Leist. She’s an interesting woman with a bright career ahead of her. Here’s her Bio from the Amazon Author Page.  Read on and take a look into the mind of a fellow writer ~~~
*
Susanne Leist graduated with an MBA in finance. Her life has led her through the hectic commodities market and the number-crunching field of budgeting, but she always continued to read and daydream…which ultimately led to the fulfillment of her dream to put one of her stories on paper for everyone to enjoy. She currently lives on Long Island with her husband, two daughters, and Maltese dog.

INTERVIEW
*
*
The Dead Game is your debut novel.  Describe what the reader is in for in two sentences or less?
*
The Dead Game is supernatural thriller like no other. Linda and her friends must face murder, stalking, and unnatural creatures to find their lost friends and the evil one controlling their once peaceful, seaside town.
*
Your Facebook page indicates you’re a dyed-in-the-wool New Yorker and proud of it. What’s your favorite borough and why?
*
My favorite borough is Brooklyn. Why? That’s where I grew up. My section, Sheepshead Bay, has beaches, a bay for docking boats, and small neighborhood stores. It’s a small town in a big city.
*
What’s your new project, what’s it about, and when should we expect to see it?????
*
I am currently writing the sequel to The Dead Game. The first book ties up all the mysteries and loose ends, except for one. This loose end will be explored and resolved in the second book.
*
The Seven Deadly Sins have been around since time began. Which one is your own personal downfall and which would you be the least likely to do?
*
This is a hard question. The least likely one for me would be Wrath. I don’t have an uncontrollable temper or anger. I would never hurt myself or anyone on purpose.
Sloth would be the easiest for me do. Who doesn’t like being lazy at times? I usually feel this way when I have to cook or clean the house.
*
You’ve been married for Thirty years. What’s your secret for staying together in this age of disposable marriages?
*
I can’t believe you counted the number of years I’ve been married. I don’t even keep track anymore. It’s like my age, where I’m stuck on one year and my mind refuses to count forward anymore.
Marriage takes perseverance and loyalty. It also requires a lot of patience and hearing the same stories over and over again.
*
Your debut novel – The Dead Game – is an entertaining read that mixes different genres – supernatural/mystery/romantic relationships – effortlessly. How long did The Dead Game take from idea to reality?
*
I actually worked on this book for six years. I had a plot and loads of ideas. Once I sat down to write, the book took on a life of its own. I kept to the plot but my mind added tangents and twists. I had to make sure the clues and story line followed each other.
After the book was written, I edited and re-edited until it was fine-tuned and ready to be published. The self-publisher edited it but I continued to self edit after it was published. I used readers’ and reviewers’ suggestions and criticisms to make changes.
It was a long and arduous process.
*
Would you say you are more of a pet/animal lover or a nature enthusiast?
*
This question is easy for me. I love animals—all animals. I’ve had cats but now I have a Maltese. He’s my pride and joy and my best friend.
*
That’s our interview. Be sure to check out The Dead Game below and grab a book that will grab you. Only 99 CENTS !!!

THE DEAD GAME -- DAY 135

As they climbed the stairs, they peered through the clear glass to watch the diminishing party below. Where is everyone?
The second floor was half the size of the main level. The back half was sectioned off behind a protective glass railing, with the railing running down the center of the house, dividing the floor into two equal halves. The front half was left wide open to the high ceiling, where the huge glass dome sparkled and glistened as it provided a green tinted window to the night sky.
After Linda turned from the banister, she was faced with three closed doors, standing side by side. She’d heard about the three doors in the basement of End House and prayed that elaborate traps didn’t also await them here.
She swung open the first door. The room turned out to be a large bedroom with a massive canopied bed. The dresser and end tables appeared colorless. At first glance, all the furniture seemed to be carved from glass, but upon closer inspection, she realized that the pieces were constructed from ice. She touched the bed to make sure and found it freezing cold to the touch. It was strange that the furniture was frozen solid while the room remained warm; she couldn’t understand why the furniture wasn’t melting.
“I hope the other rooms don’t hold hidden surprises like the revolving rooms at End House. I don’t want to live through that frightening experience again.” Linda backed away from the ice furniture. The room reminded her too much of the frozen pool—the one filled with blood at End House.
“‘Live’ is the operative word,” said Shana. “We lived
through that experience, and we’ll live through this one now. None of us want to repeat that again, but this time we’ll stick closer together and handle the situation more calmly than we did at End House—with much more backup for each other.”
Mike looked over at David and said, “Some of us left the others on their own to fend for themselves. We must promise to watch out more carefully for each other.”
“I’m really sorry, Mike. I was so terrified that night that
I ran ahead without thinking. I’ll keep a level head this time.”
      “Good.”

EVIL IN PARADISE

End House at Oasis.
A house with a long and sordid history
of deaths and disappearances.
How could such a house be located
in paradise?
Below the mountain where the dismal house sits,
lies a picture perfect town with beautiful beaches.
Tourists flock to Oasis, Florida,
not knowing about the evil living nearby.

THE DEAD GAME -- DAY 120

For the past half hour, Todd had been pacing up and down the street in front of the bookstore. He couldn’t figure out where Linda had disappeared to. After checking Shana’s store, he realized that she was also missing. This made him suspect that the two of them were up to no good again.
Then from a distance, he spotted the two of them strolling down Main Street, from the direction of the road leading out of town. The only two buildings along that road were the bed and breakfast and the old dilapidated mansion. Who did they know in those places? And why were they out walking when darkness had already fallen?
As they neared the coffee shop, his felt his temper rising. “Where were you? I’ve been worried!” He grasped Linda by her shoulders, wanting to shake some sense into her.
“Stop worrying about me! I can take care of myself! We only took a short walk,” she yelled back, shrugging his hands away from her shoulders. “And don’t ever manhandle me again!”
Todd, upset with himself for losing control, apologized. “I’m sorry, but I was worried.” He turned to Shana and said, “I can drive both of you home.”
“No, it’s all right; Sam walks me home every night.”
As Shana turned to leave, Linda whispered in her ear, “I’ll pick you up at 8:30.”
Infuriated with her, Todd took Linda by the arm and led her to his car. Now he was past being just angry. “Where are you going tonight? And when were you going to tell me?”
“Where I’m going is no concern of yours, but I’ll tell you anyway. I’m going with Mike, David, and Shana to Diane’s party. Shirley invited us to be her guests.” Linda turned to walk home.
“How could Shirley be so stupid? Now I have four more people to worry about!” He couldn’t understand why Shirley would invite them to the private party. Was she trying to stir up trouble? He would have to question her later at the party—that is, if he wasn’t too busy protecting Linda and her silly friends.
“You’re the one who’s acting stupid! I told you not to touch me! Leave me alone! I don’t want to discuss this any further!” Linda said in a stern voice that he’d never before heard directed at him.
He realized that he’d gone too far with his anger, “I’m truly sorry, Linda. I was worried about you, but I never meant to raise my voice. If you don’t inform me where you are going, then how can I protect you? I would never ever hurt you! Sam and I are trying very hard to protect you and Shana!”
Linda stopped walking and turned around. She walked back to him.
Taking her hand, he raised it slowly to his lips, all the while keeping her eyes locked with his, showing her with his eyes what he could never show with words: how much he cared for her. Her eyes drifted closed, as if she was savoring his touch. Oh God! He hoped that she was as enthralled with him as he was with her. He tucked her arm in his and led her to his car.
They were quiet during the short drive home and later at dinner, which Linda prepared with a loud symphony of banging pots and dishes. He understood why she was annoyed, but he knew that he’d had no other choice.

THE DEAD GAME -- DAY 113

THE DEAD GAME — DAY 113
Linda and Shana were investigating their friends’ disappearance from the mysterious party at End House. They extended their search to include the deserted mansion and the quaint gingerbread house, both located on the dirt road leading from town.

They walked outside into the brilliant sunshine. Shana proposed another idea that had Linda sighing unhappily to herself. “Let’s continue interviewing people: we could take a walk down the gravel road, and even swing by the pretty bed and breakfast.”
“We can’t come back too late, because Todd will be waiting for me. Although it is nice outside for a brisk walk…” Linda looked around at all the residents and tourists who were out and about, enjoying the beautiful day. She nodded hello to people along the way, including her friends, Ralph and Lewis, who were bartenders at the Oasis Hotel. They lived in another town and commuted every day to work. It would be nice, for once, to be like everyone else and simply enjoy an innocent stroll through town.
They followed Main Street until it ended at the sheriff’s office. A narrow dirt road led the rest of the way from town. It ran past the bed and breakfast and the huge isolated mansion, before it curved farther inland to join the bustling highway.
