THE ECHO OF FOOTSTEPS

Night comes slowly.

Footsteps fall softly.

Boats drift on the water.

A cat meows.

Footsteps hit closer.

Noise by the garbage can.

A splash in the water.

Footsteps echo louder.

An oar hits the water.

Chains rattle.

More steps.

I turn.

A flash of light.

Footsteps halt.

A boat sits in the dark water,

Filled with flowers

And my true love.

WALK THE NIGHT

Through the darkness.
Through the cemetery.
Through the deserted streets.
We walk the night.
In the dead of night.
In the moon’s glow.
In the dark shadows.
We walk the night.
Come closer.
Come with us.
Come tonight.
We walk the night.

HELP ME

HELP ME

I’m lost.
Alone.
Lost in a fog.
Where am I?
Where is my body?
Am I asleep?
My body isn’t mine.
It’s being controlled.
Manipulated.
Tainted.
By them.
The ones who roam the night.
Who own the streets of Oasis.
Who come at night to take us.
I won’t become one of them.
I refuse to become one of The Dead.
I want to be free.

WE'RE HERE!

WE’RE HERE!
The Dead are rising from the smoke.
They will be walking the streets of Oasis.
Be careful to hide in your homes.
You wouldn’t want to meet them
on the deserted streets.
They will be hell to pay.
For hell will take you as
one of their own.

THE DEAD GAME -- DAY 113

THE DEAD GAME — DAY 113
Linda and Shana were investigating their friends’ disappearance from the mysterious party at End House. They extended their search to include the deserted mansion and the quaint gingerbread house, both located on the dirt road leading from town.

They walked outside into the brilliant sunshine. Shana proposed another idea that had Linda sighing unhappily to herself. “Let’s continue interviewing people: we could take a walk down the gravel road, and even swing by the pretty bed and breakfast.”
“We can’t come back too late, because Todd will be waiting for me. Although it is nice outside for a brisk walk…” Linda looked around at all the residents and tourists who were out and about, enjoying the beautiful day. She nodded hello to people along the way, including her friends, Ralph and Lewis, who were bartenders at the Oasis Hotel. They lived in another town and commuted every day to work. It would be nice, for once, to be like everyone else and simply enjoy an innocent stroll through town.
They followed Main Street until it ended at the sheriff’s office. A narrow dirt road led the rest of the way from town. It ran past the bed and breakfast and the huge isolated mansion, before it curved farther inland to join the bustling highway.

THE DEAD GAME -- DAY 91

“Father John, do you believe that our town can be saved?” asked Linda.
“Someone saved Louise…maybe someone good stepped in to help. I don’t know who all the players are in town.”
“What should we do now, Father?” asked Shana.
“Diane’s next party will be this coming Friday night. Maybe you can get invited. Just be very careful with whatever you plan to do: we don’t know who or what we are up against. But I will always be here for you if you ever need any help.”
Shana stood up to shake his hand. “Thank you, Father, for confiding in us. If the secret meetings are being held at Diane’s house, then this must mean that the original residents are involved. We have to figure out if they are just some evil group, or if they really do have supernatural powers. And how do the shadows lurking in town fit in with this whole scenario? Are there two groups involved? And if there are two groups, which group is good and which one is bad? And….”
Linda pulled on Shana’s arm to stop her from continuing. “Shana, you are giving me a headache. We’ll figure everything out, and then we’ll notify the Father about our findings. We are leaving now, Father. Thank you for all your help.”
Linda hastily descended the church’s front steps, with Shana lagging behind her. “I’m sorry for shushing you, but we need to begin our investigation on our own. Asking endless questions will only lead to more endless questions. And I don’t want to alarm the Father any further.”
“You’re right,” agreed Shana. “We need to focus on what we are going to do next. We must look into everyone’s background—even our own friends—if we intend on finding out the truth.”

THE DEAD GAME–PAGE A DAY–DAY 15

THE DEAD GAME--PAGE A DAY--DAY 15
Linda did feel the extreme tension in the air. She didn’t know if she was imagining it, or if it was only the usual tension between her and Todd. Whenever he was near, she experienced a strange tingling sensation; whenever she looked into his big brown eyes, she felt herself melting inside and getting tongue tied. Today she’d experienced this rippling tension even before she’d bumped into him. She was happy that he was escorting her home, since she did feel safer with him by her side.
Todd accompanied her home and even checked inside her apartment for possible intruders. She followed at his heels. They made their way back to the front door, where Todd placed his hands on her shoulders and gazed into her eyes. “Will you be all right? I can stay here with you.”
Even though this sounded more than tempting, she refused his generous offer. “I’ll be fine.”
She was afraid to have him in her apartment—all evening or even all night. What would she say to him? She was still too nervous around him. She needed baby steps in order to get used to being with him. One day they might even have a full conversation.
Watching her face, he gave her a quick kiss on the cheek before turning to walk away.
Linda had closed her eyes, hoping for a brief second that he was going to kiss her on the lips, but instead only felt a small peck on her cheek. Of course, she scolded herself, he wasn’t interested in her in that way and she was just fooling herself again with false hopes and dreams. But as she was lying in bed later that night, trying to fall asleep, she thought that anything could happen at a party…or even the next time they met late at night in the moonlight….

ALL ALONE--ALL BY MYSELF

ALL ALONE

ALL ALONE ON A SNOWY DAY
All alone.
All by myself.
Where is everyone?
No cars.
No people.
I’ll just trudge along by myself.
Ho hum.
