A BLANKET OF ORANGE & RED

Among the tombstones,

Butterflies are aflutter.

A blanket of orange & red

falls to cover the green.

Sighs cut the silence

Like a sharp knife.

Beneath the ground,

The Dead wait.

The leaves lift in the wind,

Twirling to form shapes.

LET THE LEAVES FALL

Source: fall-spirit

Let the leaves fall where they may

upon tombstones built to stay.

On these stones, the residents pound

as fall colors litter the ground.

No one is free to leave.

To this earth, they must cleave.

THE NIGHT COMES

THE NIGHT COMES

The night comes,
Dragging its feet,
Lurking in the corners.
Come to me.
I can’t wait much longer.
Your time is limited.
Enter my domain.
The wind sighs.
The moon shows its face.
The birds flee.
The spirits rise.
Yes, move closer.

ALONE IN A CEMETERY

ALONE IN A CEMETERY

The wind whispers.
The trees sway.
Air hisses through the leaves.
Shadows lurk between gravestones.
With long robes, they sweep toward me.
A statue looms in the distance.
A winged angel turns her cold face
and faces me.
A wicked grin curves her mouth.
Her wings take flight.
And so do I.

SHY CEMETERY

Source:

A cemetery so shy
the dead and gone pass it by.
The graves hide in shame
from its silly name.
No mausoleums to grace it,
or fine tombstones to enhance it.
Please stay away from here.
The dead don’t want you near.

WALK TALL

Source:

THE DEAD will rise soon.
The birds know the score.
They rise in the night
To take blood and more.

The winds will blow hard.
THE DEAD will walk tall.
The waves will rise high.
No one left at all.

We can run and hide.
Yellow through and through.
We can stand and fight.
Are you with me too?

We decide right now
What our plight will be.
I don’t want to die
Or washed out to sea.

Wolf approaches first.
Beast in beauty form.
Takes me in his arms.
Time for us to mourn.

RISE WITH THE MOON

Roses grow between the graves.
Curling their fingers around the stones.
Waiting for the evil ones to rise.
From dungeons beneath the earth.
Where they’ve been banished.
For the games they’ve played.
On the living they’ve blooded.
Rise with the moon.
Come with the night.
Take hold of our stems.
Blood red we’ve become.

NIGHT IS COMING

The tombstones are dancing.
The winds are blowing.
Blades of grass are ruffling.
Night is coming.
To the town.
To the cemetery.
Where The Dead wait.
They wait for darkness.
For theirs shadows to blend in.
The streets of town they will walk.
Innocent victims they will find.
The games are about to begin.

WHO WALKS THE NIGHT?

WHO WALKS THE NIGHT?

Who walks the night?
We shouldn't have walked past the cemetery.
I can see dark shadows lurking.
Eerie lights flickering near the tombstones.
Too much activity for a place of death.
Too many shadows for a few headstones.

Who walks the night?
Night should be a time for reflection.
A time for silence.
When you could hear your own thoughts.
Your own heart pounding.
Not a time for dark shadows and footsteps.

Who walks the night?
The Dead do.
They wait for the moonlight.
They wait for the darkness.
Then they appear in all their glory.
Keepers of the night.
Phantoms of the night.

Who walks the night?
Not us anymore.
For soon we will be the next victims.
The next to fall prey to The Dead.
We shouldn't have walked past the cemetery.
I hear footsteps.
Moving closer.
