THE WATCHERS

Who goes there?
We watch the town.
Protect the residents.
Run in a pack.
The Watchers are here.
We can be anyone.
Or appear in any form.
We are watching you.

THE WOLF IS BACK

Wolf.jpg

THE DEAD GAME
Do not come near.
I can see clear
The evil coming to town.
What is with the big frown?
You must leave right away.
The Dead have come to stay.
No one will be left alive.
A death for all who arrive.
Blood will rule the day.
Leave, you cannot stay
In a town slated for death.
Do not stop to take a breath.
Run now like the wind to safety.
Make sure your retreat is hasty.
I have come to warn you.
They will come for you.

THE HAUNTED HOUSE

Creepy house.
Dark and deserted.
Overgrown lawn.
Wind rustling through the leaves.
Dead quiet.
No footsteps.
No sounds of life.
That’s how I like it:
the creepier the better.

THE DARK FOREST

Come and visit.
Follow the line of trees.
Where do you think it leads?
Deep into a forest.
Down a dark road to a haunted house.
You will never know unless you start walking.
Ignore the moans and screams, it’s just the animals.
The howling are from a pack of wild dogs.
They like people very much.
It is safe to walk farther on.
Don’t look back, face forward, and walk.
Soon you’ll be reaching your destination.
Be prepared for anything.
Don’t be afraid.

Anything is a possibility.
Come and visit us.
Follow the line of trees.
Where does it lead?
Deep into a forest.
Down a dark road.

Ignore the moans and screams.
They are just animals.
A pack of wild dogs are howling.
They love people.
It is safe for you to walk into the forest.
Don’t look back.

Face forward and walk.
Soon you’ll be reaching your destination.
Be prepared for anything.
Don’t be afraid.

A party at the deserted End House
is waiting for you.
And so are The Dead.

WHERE THE DEAD GO

Tell me a story.
A scary story
worthy of a wolf.
I want to be frightened.
I want to hear of blood
and gore.
I want to hear of dead bodies.
What did you say?
The Dead?
Yes, I would like to hear of The Dead.
Are they deadly?
They play deadly games, you say?
I’m ready.
Where must I go?
To Oasis, Florida?
So that’s where The Dead go.
I’m off.

THE LONE WOLF

Howl at the moon young wolf.
Will anyone answer you?
Does anyone care?
Howls soon accompany
the lone sound.
Notes varying in tempo and pitch.
In tune together in their quest
to raise the moon.
The moon shines down upon them,
in acquiescence of their mournful sounds.
All is right with the world.
Life is in perfect harmony.

COME WITH ME INTO THE NIGHT

Guess who?
It’s me, honey.
I’ve had a long day at work.
It has made me feel grumpy.
I feel changed in some way.
Do my hands feel furry?
They look furry to me.
All of a sudden I’m hungry.
Hungry for you, my darling.
Come with me and
we’ll dance into the night.
The night holds mystery and
adventure for us.
There are creatures who walk the night.
Come with me…

BEAUTIFUL MIND

What are they saying to each other?
Are they warning each other?
Are they saying to good night?
Wouldn’t it be nice to know
what’s in their beautiful minds?

THE END

Just when you think it’s safe
to step out from your bedroom.
When the howling and chanting
have finally subsided.
When all is quiet.
You put your foot down,
and then you realize that
all is not over.

THE DEAD GAME -- DAY 97

THE DEAD GAME — DAY 97

They were led to rooms to the left of the main entrance. They entered an empty dining room with green colored wallpaper on its dreary walls. Just like End House with its eerie bare green walls. At the rear of the house was ahuge kitchen, which was empty of any furniture, appliances,or even doors to the cabinets.
“I don’t spend much time at home,” Wolf said to explain the useless dining room and kitchen. He then directed them back through the gallery, to the rooms on the right side of the house. The first room turned out to be a greenhouse, full of plants and trees. The air was very humid and much hotter than the other rooms. The plant life grew wild, without any concern for design or pattern. A narrow path snaked through the thick forest of bushes to the back.
The trees were huge and tall, their tops almost reaching the high domed ceiling. Squawking sounds echoed from somewhere inside the tight growth of trees. Leaves rustled while scurrying noises emanated from inside the thick knots of branches. Shana didn’t see any animals or birds, but only spotted leaves and branches moving in unison with the sounds. She was becoming more and more unnerved by the minute.
Then she heard a weird crunching sound by her feet. She looked down at the floor and was shocked to find alligators snapping at her feet. Their jaws were wide open, their black eyes staring up at her from a deep pool of green water. She jumped back in shock. Then she began to realize that the floor on which they stood was clear glass, separating them from the snapping alligators. She watched as the alligators munched on pieces of food that left bloody trails behind them in the water.
“Don’t be afraid. They can’t reach you,” Wolf assured Shana. As he stared down at her, she noticed that his eyes were glowing bright green.
Like a reptile.

THE DEAD GAME -- DAY 89

Chapter 15
After Sunday morning services, Linda and Shana approached Father John as he said his usual goodbyes on the front steps of the church. He asked them to join him in his study. They followed him through the main room with its shiny wood benches and ornate statues. The church was bright from the sunshine that shone through its sparkling glass-domed ceiling.
Linda realized that the church and the hotel were the only buildings in town with clear glass windows. She has always been curious about the green tinting on the windows of the homes on the hill. Even the stores on Main Street had green tinting on their windows.
The priest’s study was sunny and cheerful with flowered couches, colorful rugs, and a pretty vase holding yellow daisies on his desk. Mrs. Abigail, the housekeeper, kept the church warm and inviting. She didn’t live in town, but in a small town nearby. She was a vibrant and happy older woman, who took great care of Father John and the church.
Abigail set out tea and cakes for them. She closed the door behind her. She left them alone with the Father; she never intruded into anyone’s business and always knew when to give the priest’s congregants their privacy.
“Father, we’re faced with a terrifying situation in town. Friday night we went to a party at End House, but no one was there to greet us except deadly saws and bone-crushing cages. Luckily, we were able to escape—except for Tom and Edward who were last seen going through a doorway in the basement. Afterward, the doorway disappeared and we never saw them again. Later, Louise—who we thought was dead—came back alive.” Linda stumbled over her words in her haste.
She’d expected the Father to either doubt her words or get angry at her for making up such a morbid tale. However, he just sat down in his chair, nodding his head; he didn’t appear at all surprised to hear about the unusual party.
Father John must be in his late fifties, guessed Linda, but he appeared very strong and rugged-looking for a man his age. He also seemed to be troubled. His eyes darted around as if he expected to be overheard by someone, even though the church was empty and quiet.

THE HORROR STORY

Welcome to the world of horror.
The animals can sense the evil.
They warn each other.
Humans aren’t as savvy to danger,
but usually dive head first into trouble.
Ah! The undying script of a horror story.

A good horror story can hold a variety of
elements that add different flavors to the story.
Cemeteries can be very good backdrops.
Bats are popular props for scary scenes.
A full moon is a must-have for a creepy story.
Horror stories have been done before,
but there are always new combinations of ideas
and backdrops that can lead in new directions.
Horror has always been done
and will continue to be done until
human beings stop using their imaginations.

Horror

There is nothing better than a horror story in a haunted house.
All you need is a creepy house, a dark night,
and maybe a storm or a hurricane.
While the winds blow and the rain falls hard
against the roof, the unsuspecting characters
find themselves trapped in the house.
They are trapped in a nightmare of their own making,
since no one should ever enter a haunted house
at night or during a thunderstorm.
I placed all these ingredients into my book,
The Dead Game.
Come see what it cooked up.

THE DEAD GAME — DAY 70

THE DEAD GAME — DAY 70
Sam was shocked. “I’m going over to End House.” He stood up to leave.
Todd stepped in front of him. “You can’t go by yourself. We’ll go together after we inform the proper authorities.”
“I am the authorities,” corrected Sam.
“This time we need outside help. This is beyond anything we’ve ever encountered before.”
“If you think we need additional help, then I can make some calls before we head over to the house.” Sam sat back down at his desk and picked up the phone. “I’ll try to get in touch with Carl again, but I doubt he’ll bother to pick up his phone.”
Todd leaned on the corner of Sam’s desk and waited for him to call Carl. With an annoyed look on his face, Sam slammed down the receiver. Nothing ever bothered Sam, but this time he seemed angry with his young deputy.
Todd turned his face away from the others and whispered, “Why? What’s happened to Carl?”
“I’ve tried calling him all evening. He’s disappeared again.”
“Do you mean that this has happened before?” Todd asked, an uneasy feeling growing in his gut. He’d always thought of deputy Carl as a loner—not fitting in well with the rest of the residents. He’d never understood why Sam had hired him in the first place. It was the only time that he hadn’t been privy to one of Sam’s decisions beforehand. But he’d wait for now…he’d question him later, when they had a chance to speak in private.
“Yes—it’s happened too many times.” Sam stood up again. He reloaded and holstered his gun. “Anytime something goes down in town, Carl is sure to disappear.”
“We’ll have to keep a closer eye on him for now on.” Todd wanted to know where he disappeared to when he couldn’t be found.
