MOTHER NATURE

Nature takes its path,

removing the trash.

Enough humans for now.

So, take a final bow.

Let Mother Nature work to restore

the earth to what it was before.

Too often, there are deaths.

Too often, there are murders.

Too often, we stop and stare.

Too often, people look away.

Sad, but true.

Human nature possesses an evil side,

which tempts us each day.

Its flipside offers us a way to achieve

purer thoughts and good deeds.

Which path will lead to a better world?

Too often, we make the wrong choice.

A beast lurks within us,

yearning to be free.

Tame the savage

or risk becoming one.

Life can be lonely.
Life can be sad.
Why reinforce it?
Why stand alone?
No smiling.
No talking.
What’s next?
No breathing?

TOO OFTEN

Too often there are deaths.

Stop and stare,
but do nothing to help.
Sad, but true.
Human nature has its rough side.
But is also has its good side.
Let the good side out.

PERSEVERANCE

Perseverance

We trudge along in our hard lives.
Suffer through illnesses and deaths.
But we still carry on.
Why?
Why does this flower continue
to hold its head up high?
Hope.
It hopes for warmer days ahead.
We hope for better times.
Hope keeps us alive and warm.
We must never give up on hope.

CURIOSITY KILLS MORE THAN THE CAT

What’s on the other side?
Strange sounds are emanating
from the thick blanket of trees.
You can only see darkness and
the slight rustling of leaves.
You know you want to cross the bridge.
So you begin the shaky walk across.
The bridge sways with each footstep.
Should you continue?
You hesitate but you move forward
step by halting step.
You reach the other side.
There’s a loud crashing sound behind you.
You quickly turn to see the bridge
falling into the water below.
Now you are on the other side looking back.
You know you want to go back.
But it’s too late.
Human nature might have dictated your wants
but the bridge has dictated your reality.

ONE WITH THE EARTH

We seem to forget that
we are part of nature.
We come from the earth
and when our time is up,
we will go back to the earth.
We must keep our humility.
Keep our humanity intact.
Or the earth will reject us,
and eject us into the great unknown.

WISHING FOR SNOW?

Why is it that when it’s hot outside,
we crave the snow?
And when it’s cold and stormy,
we dream about the sun.
Is it because the grass is
always greener on the other side?
Or is it just because we like change?
So when you’re sitting on the beach
with the hot sun in your face,
don’t be surprised if you begin to think of snow.

IN PERSPECTIVE

What if we were smaller than birds?
If we were smaller than all other animals?
Would we be so dominating over nature?
Would we be kings of the universe?
Look what happened to the dinosaurs.
What did happen to them?

HOLD LIGHT IN OUR HANDS

What if we were able to hold light in our hands?
A spark of hope and the future.
What would we do with it?
Would we ruin it like everything else?
Would we treasure it?
Unfortunately, we’ll never find out.

Why make something simple
as stairs into a complicated statue?
Why create a staircase with twenty steps
when it only requires four steps?
As human beings we love to complicate
everything around us.
We search for the complex solution when
the simple answer is staring us right in the face.
Simple can be just as elegant and rewarding.

DOES A POOL BRING HAPPINESS?

Do you believe life would be better
if you had a mansion with a large pool?
If you had tons of money to spend
on anything you wanted?
Sounds nice doesn’t it?
But I wonder if these people
are any happier or more
content than we are.
Maybe they are still not
satisfied and want more.
Maybe human nature is to always want more.
Following this logic, these people are not
any happier than we are but are just more comfortable.
