An Unwelcome Surprise

An Unwelcome Surprise By Susanne Leist

Lights sparkle like stars on the walls.
Spots of color guide my journey.
Past closed doors, I walk, my head lowered, my steps slow.
I feel my way along the walls, the lights warm beneath my fingertips.
A cold wind hits the back of my neck.
I turn to the dark corridor before me.
Dark shadows twist into shapes, and an arm beckons to me.
Heart pounding in a tempo matching my chattering teeth, I stand frozen against the wall.
A knob hits me in the back.
My arm reaches behind, and I twist the knob.
I step back into the room.
The door shuts in my face.
I turn around.
Water flows beneath my feet.
An azure sky surrounds me.
I walk forward. The scene fades to black.
A brisk cold wind replaces the warmth.
In the distance walks a woman wearing a yellow raincoat and black rubber boots.
She approaches me with an ax in one hand and a black garbage bag in the other.
I back against the door, jiggling the knob.
Locked.
She stands before me and smiles.
I lift my eyes to eyes shimmering blood red.
“Would you like to fill this bag for me?”
She raises the empty black bag.
I swallow the lump in my throat and shake my head.
Dots of lights shoot before my eyes.
The room swims.
I shut my eyes and fall to the ground.

A WEB

A WEB
Each day we spin a web.
A web of lies.
White lies.
Fake smiles.
Untrue feelings.
Keep spinning.
Until it ties you up
Into one tight knot.

RIDE THE TRAIN

RIDE THE TRAIN

I ride the train each day.
For this, I need to pay?

No seat I can see.
Never is one free.

I hang from the strap above.
A soft sigh feels like a dove.

I turn my head to the side.
And do you know what I find?

A girl standing next to me.
One as pretty as can be.

She offers a small smile.
Now I could walk a mile.

I stand taller than before.
I am ten feet off the floor.

A slight smile before she departs.
I’m left happy as my day starts.

DANCE FOR ME

DANCE FOR ME

Rise up through the air.
Lift your fins.
Your pointy face to the sky.
Dance for me.
Let the water flow.
Back into the ocean.
But keep yourself in the air.
Dance for me.
Give me your wicked smile.
A little laugh.
Show me your endless joy.
Dance for me.
I want to see your special dance.
A clap or two.
A little twist for me.
Dance for me.

LIPS

lips
Source: sheblood

Lips so juicy and sweet,
I want to have a treat.
Whether a smile or a frown,
They aren’t just a mere brown.
They belong to my loved one,
who fills my life with such fun.

DANCE FOR ME

DANCE FOR ME
Elevate your body through the air.
Lift up your fins.
Your pointy face to the sky.
Dance for me.
Let the water flow down.
Back into the ocean.
But keep yourself high above all else.

WELCOME THE NIGHT

Welcome the night
And its friend, the moon.
Don’t take flight
From the man in the moon.
Let the moon take over
From the sun’s bright reign.
Let the sun take cover
Without hesitation or pain.
A thick blanket will fall,
Covering the earth with security.
Darkness will cover all
With its grace and purity.
The stars will twinkle and shine.
For the sun, do not pine.
It will be back tomorrow morning
So no need for any worrying.

TAKE A SEAT

TAKE A SEAT

Take a seat under the tree,
Where you can feel proud and free.
Crafty and free as the mighty red fox,
Who refuses to live in a box.

Freedom should never be taken lightly.
It must be revered and taken sprightly.
The fox is anxious and waiting for your choice.
Do you want to live in a box with no voice?
Come sit beside the fox in the shade.
Flowers grow here and not one a spade.
The smell so sweet and fragrant.
All friends and not one vagrant.
Close your eyes and feel the breeze.
Your writing will come with ease.
The words will flow from your pen.
Stories for women and men.
Take a nap in the meadow.
Life can be sweet and mellow.
You’ll wake up with a smile.
Eager to walk a mile.
Find your perfect spot to be.
Let your imagination free.
A place that makes you feel just right.
Your senses will know what to write.

BIG SMILE

cheshire moon
Smile for me.
Shine on me.
Hold me close.
Never let go.
Eyes so bright.
Smile so wide.
Stay with me.
Each and every night.

WHAT DOES HAPPINESS LOOK LIKE?

WHAT DOES HAPPINESS LOOK LIKE?

I've never been a happy person.
More of a serious person.
So what does happiness look like?
Is it the smile on a mother's face?
Is it the laughter of a toddler?
Is it the loving look of a lover?
Look around you.
Do people really look happy?
Or do they look preoccupied?
Maybe a little impatient or hurried?
Do people even look happy at a party?
Some may be smiling.
Some may be off to the side, watching.
If you supply some liquor,
Then you might see some happiness.
So who is happy?
My dog rubbing his back across the rug
Is the epitome of true happiness.
Animals have cornered the market on happiness.
They are content to be alive.
We should learn from them.

WHAT'S NEXT?

Life can be lonely.
Life can be sad.
Why reinforce it?
Why stand alone?
No smiling.
No talking.
What’s next?
No breathing?

OUR TRUE FACE

OUR TRUE FACE

pixelated-nightmares:

Mikey by JohnBranhamArt

Is this you?
At times I feel this way.
I feel like murdering someone.
Cutting their heart out
of their mean and vengeful body.
But we can’t.
We’re humans with
compassion and forgiveness
in our hearts.
But it does feel good to think
like this when we’re hurt and angry.
So think your crazy thoughts and
then put on your happy face.
No one will ever know.

  • OUR TRUE FACE
What face do you show to the world?
Is it a happy face with smiles and laughs?
Or a sad face with frowns and whimpers?
Whatever face we might show,
there’s another face hidden behind it.
Our true face that very few see.
The face that accurately reflects our dreams,
desires, fears, and thoughts.
Complex thoughts that are never revealed to others.
As I watch people, I try to envision their true face.
At times, I can see it in their eyes;
for eyes more accurately reflect our inner thoughts.
So put on your fake face but you can only try to
disguise yourself with your eyes.
For the eyes tell all.

RED RED ROSE

Like roses that are beautiful on the outside,
but have thorns that can tear the flesh,
so can people appear honest and friendly,
but at the same time,
can be planning your early demise.
Roses have sharp thorns.

THE CLOWN FROM HELL

MY NIGHTMARE COME TO LIFE.
THAT IS WHY I PUT A CLOWN IN ONE OF MY CHARACTER’S NIGHTMARES.
I SHOULDN’T BE THE ONLY ONE WHO SUFFERS.

WHAT LIES BENEATH THE SURFACE

When you meet someone new or talk to someone you already know, do you really know what her or she is thinking? What he thinks about you? Is his smile sincere or fake? Is his laugh a little too high-pitched to be real? Is the person holding himself too stiff to be comfortable speaking with you?

We never know what another person is thinking or feeling. It would be nicer and easier if everyone acted the way they felt. Not to the point of rudeness but to the point of not being misleading. Then we would be able to find someone who is actually interested in what we have to say. That would be much better than wasting time with someone only to find out he was dishonest the whole time.

This is never going to happen but it doesn't hurt to dream.
