A FORCE WE CANNOT BEND

Icy waves ravage the shore

before returning for more.

Soaring birds ride the mighty towers,

refusing to yield to their powers.

Dolphins coast in the swells,

ignoring the death bells.

Tides hit the rocks

with frozen blocks.

They plow through the sand

with sharp claws in hand.

Momentum without end;

A force we cannot bend.

IT IS TIME TO FLY

It is time, my friends, I sigh.

To spread my wings and learn to fly.

My heart is heavy, but my spirit soars high.

As I seek a proper way to say goodbye.

Life has become a selfish way to be.

There is no ‘we’ but only the greedy ‘me.’

The world has lost its appeal to me.

I need to escape and learn to fly free.

Mother Nature will guide my journey.

As the birds follow the land & the sea.

So too, I will take the next step I see.

A hesitant but vital step to being free.

I close my eyes and touch the sky.

My body rises above the tallest tree.

As the puffy clouds make room for me.

The birds circle me as I fly free.

FLY HIGH

Fly HIgh

What does it feel like to fly,

Rising to meet the blue sky?

Soaring to a new height.

A bird’s exclusive right.

Alone and soaring high,

Nary a cloud in the sky.

Take me along with you, please.

What can I do to appease?

The wind will ruffle my feathers.

I will fly without any tethers.

I will fly over the land

To the tune of a marching band.

GONE IN A BLINK

With my head so pink,

What do you think?

I’m pretty in pink

And gone in a blink.

RED IN ITS ANGER

The storm approaches the shore.
A spray of water hits my face.
The salty breeze lifts tendrils of hair.
Palm trees sway and bend.
The sand ripples
from the increasing wind.
Birds flee for safety.
Waves crash against the rocks.
The sky darkens to red in its anger,
raining tears across the land and sea.
When will it end?
Once the sky calms,
the sun will shine.
The birds will return.
The tantrum will be over.

ANOTHER DAY IN FLORIDA

Sounds of footsteps.
Whistles and shouts.
The air grows heavy.
The streets fill with cars.
Men leap from vehicles.
They stand before the mob.
The town turns quiet.
Residents freeze in place.
Birds flee from trees.
Squirrels scamper to safety.
Another day in Oasis, Florida.

MY SECRET

MY SECRET
Sprinkle my path with pretty leaves & flowers.
I want to look at water & not towers.
Colors to brighten my day.
A place where birds come to play.
I walk to the end of the pier.
I gaze into the depths without fear.
I watch the fish swimming by,
Not monsters lurking nearby.
Allow time to pass slowly and be savored.
Whoever comes this way will be favored.
I think it’s only prudent and fair
To share my secret with those who care.

IN THE RED SKY

A sliver in the red sky
Sparkling in its own right.
Higher than the birds can fly,
Stars bow to its greater might.

A PERFECT OASIS

A perfect oasis where dreams come true.
Palm trees wave their arms in the warm breeze.
Birds sing a happy tune above the blue.
Until the night exhales its cold breath.
Torrents of wind dig through the white sand.
Where dark shadows leave no footprints.
And tourists remain innocent no more.

MY SECRET

Pier

MY SECRET
Sprinkle my path with pretty leaves & flowers.
I want to look at water & not towers.
Colors to brighten my day.
A place where birds come to play.
I will walk to the end of the pier.
I’ll gaze into the depths without fear.
I will see fish swimming by.
Not monsters lurking nearby.
Time will pass slowly and must be savored.

I think it’s only prudent and fair
To share my secret with those who care.

REFLECTIONS

Sky Explosion (by drxgonfly)
REFLECTIONS

Reflections from above
surround me like a glove.
Hues of purple and pink
make me ponder and think.
I lift my face high
to the starry sky.
What is the reason I am here?
Why do I live my life in fear?
Questions in my mind
seek what I can’t find.
A shooting star streaks by.
“Is this my answer?” I sigh.
A bird perches near my arm.
I jump in fear and alarm.
Its black eyes stare back at me
and with a wink, it flies free.
I am alone with the night
with the moon at its full height.
My fear falls away like a cloak.
I begin to cry with a choke.
The bird has shown me a place
where I can reveal my face.
