FROM THE DEEP

Wave From the Deep

They come from the deep.
They come when you sleep.

On waves of ice and stone,
They’ll burn you to the bone.

Fire burns hot in the ice.
The demons cut a deep slice.

Stay far from the shore,
Or they’ll ask for more.

IT COMES IN THE NIGHT

Source:

It comes in the night.
It comes to all.
To all who sleep.
To all who lie awake.
It comes on soft wings.
It comes in silence.
I lie and wait.
In trepidation.
In fear.
For it.

TIME TO SLEEP

Hello, it’s just me.
Sitting in the dark.
I’m fun as can be.
A day at the park.
I’m here when you sleep.
Your worst nightmare.
Can you see its legs
Climbing your hair?
Can you feel it?
It is black and furry.
Don’t go back to sleep
Or you’ll see blurry.
Did it bite your neck?
I can see the mark.
Just a little peck.
The room goes dark.

THE EMPTY STAIRCASE

I close my eyes to sleep,
and what do I see?
The staircase from my past.
The stairs from my
elementary school.
I can hear the children’s voices
as they climb the stairs to classes.
I hear their shouts as they descend
to the basement for lunch.
I can’t see their faces.
I only hear their voices.
The staircase waits for me.
If I return,
will my dream go away?
I drift back to sleep and
dream of the empty staircase.

DANCE WITH THE MOON

The moon brings out the best in us.
It reflects our inner thoughts and desires.
Some may howl at the moon,
while others are impelled to dance.
Dance until the sun rises.
Dance until your limbs grow tired.
Dance until you feel at peace.
At peace with the world.

THE LIGHT

Take me to the bright light that shimmers
in the far reaches of the forest.
I lay my head on a thick bed of grass.
A blanket of flowers for my cover.
Sleeps takes me away from here
to a place where there’s no fear.
I fly above the branches
and gaze at my sleeping form.
Contentment relaxes my face.
My eyelids flicker in my dream.
Too soon it will be night,
bringing the dark and cold.
I must return tomorrow
to see how my dream unfolds.

BLUE BED

A bed of flower.
A fragrant power.
Petals in my face.
Such a perfect place.
I’ll soon be asleep.
So don’t make a peep.

REST FOR THE WEARY

Source:

All is dark.
Until the moon finds us.
Hits us with its spotlight.
Blinds us with its glow.
Reveals us to the night.
All we want is darkness.
Respite from the sun.
Sleep for the weary.
Good night moon.

MIDNIGHT BLUE

Darkness enters my room
in shades of midnight blue.
It breathes its cold breath
on my warm, sleeping face.
It wakes me from a dream
of green & blue cascading waves.
I am now faced with a dark
and hollow feeling inside.
Who opened my window?
Who let in the dark?

READ ME A TALE

Read me a tale, grandfather,
of battles and dead bodies.
Turn the pages, grandfather,
of the book of horrors.
Tell me more stories, grandfather,
of evil armies and sadness.
I will close my eyes, grandfather,
and wish the darkness away.

DEPTHS

Stairs lead
To the depths
Of my sadness.
I can’t go on.
I must rest.
Replenish my spirit.
Revitalize my soul.
But first sleep.

A FIELD OF BLUEBONNETS

I walk in a field of Bluebonnets.
I thought to compose for them sonnets.
The sweet fragrance fills my soul
until I am again whole.
I feel tired as I smile
like I’ve walked a full mile.
I will make my bed
and lay down my head.
My thoughts drift so slow and low,
somewhere over the rainbow…

FOOTSTEPS IN THE SAND

I sink with each step
closer to the blue.
The waves tease and spray
and prompt me to play.
But my world is dark and bleak,
and I cannot fall asleep.
I gaze through my window
to the snow-laden bough.
I sigh and shut my eyes tight,
seeking paradise this night.
I get sleepy and go back in time
to the sand and the footsteps of mine.
