A REVIEW TO DIE FOR
                                  THE DEAD GAME

5 Stars
There is something painfully wrong with the seemingly perfect town of Oasis
The opening pages of “The Dead Game” grab you by the ankles and drag into the deeper story.  There is something painfully wrong with the seemingly perfect town of Oasis. Without getting into spoilers, here’s my take. Leist’s cast of characters is interesting in and of themselves.  They do leave you wanting to get to know them better; yet, as in real life, you only get to see the sides and masks that others want you to see.  That, to me, was the author’s point.  Everyone in Oasis seems to have an agenda, and it’s hard to know what to believe.  With that in mind, Leist does a great job of bringing to life the picturesque town of Oasis, and the menacing End House.  The book is reminiscent of tales like “House on Haunted Hill,” yet with its own twists on the supernatural thriller.  The story is well-paced, and the dangers faced by Leist’s characters feels terrifyingly real.  All in all, a good read.  I look forward to reading more works from this author.

It was amazing
Read from November 13 to 22, 2015

Wow this novel is so precious ! It introduces us to a little town Oasis where tourists disappear without a trace, murders here and there but the local police always trying to hide them. Linda and her friends got invited to a mysterious party in the End House and that’s the beginning of their adventures. Everything I love about a book is in here. The storyline is beyond perfect , with a chess game vibe where everyone is pawn and the reader has no idea what is going on so we are living the game with them. Hellooo, plot twists! Especially the romance plot. Didn’t see it happen at all. Mystery, thriller and action, I’m sure any young adult reader will love this one :)!
Thank you to the author for giving me a free copy in exchange for an honest review.

TO BE OR NOT TO BE

TO BE OR NOT TO BE

To be or not to be a writer.
This has been the hardest question for me.
Should I continue with my pursuit?
Or step away and claim defeat?
One book written.
One book sold.
It dances around on Amazon and Nook.
It reaches new heights in its niche
And then it slowly bows its head in silence.
The highs feel good and lofty,
While the lows feel depressing and sad.
Is it worth it?
Is it worth the aggravation?
I am told that a writer must keep writing.
More books to dance around.
More highs and lows.
Should I keep doing this?
Will I keep doing this?
Yes, for now
As I wait for the next high.

An Outstanding Gothic Horror Paranormal Novel!

An Outstanding Gothic Horror Paranormal Novel!

February 24, 2015

Format: Kindle EditionVerified Purchase

A beachfront town, a haunted mansion, people disappearing or turning up dead--these are the elements of gothic horror, but this unique novel has a more than a few twists. The writing is first-rate, and the pace is fast. The characters are well-defined, and the plot is imaginative and unpredictable. Linda, Shana, Logan, Todd and others are plagued by the town’s original residents, old family secrets, and more. All kinds of paranormal manifestations beset the characters. Poe and H.P. Lovecraft would have been proud to have written this novel. From an opulent mansion to a paranormal haunted horror, End House takes the town of Oasis down a frightening path. The mysterious black paper invitations to a party at End House advertising ‘Mysteries to solve’ and ‘Games to Play’ took both the characters and this reader’s imagination on a fascinating journey (review by Howard Lipman, pen name PanOrpheus, author of the ‘Delphic Oracle’ and ‘Tesla’s Tower’ books)

5 Star Review of THE DEAD GAME

Creative, refreshing and chilling
on March 25, 2015
Format: Kindle Edition
Susanne Leist’s The Dead Game had my reading intently and wide eyed, often forgetting to blink due to the eagerness to find out what happens next. The plot keeps you involved with each character as they all had a key role to play in the story. It is unnerving, mysterious yet still shares the perspective of multiple characters to give you an understanding of their point of views, even though Linda and Todd are the primary focus.

Susanne puts a creative spin on vampires which gave the book a refreshing aspect to the supernatural/dark fantasy genre. I particularly enjoyed the setting of the small town, providing an eerie vibe throughout the story while keeping a fine balance of fright, action and romance. The range of genres intertwined the book is well woven, keeping the story arch at a good pace and easy to follow.

I would recommend anyone that is a fan of paranormal romances / dark fantasy novels to pick up a copy of Susanne Leist’s debut novel, The Dead Game, and get lost in this mysterious horror novel.

AN ISLAND DRIFTING IN THE OCEAN

Each one of us is an island.
An island drifting in the ocean,
picking up debris along the way.
The debris of life and experiences.
Some of us become open islands,
welcoming and self-sufficient.
While others build walls around their plot of land,
becoming lost and finally deserted.
Which type of island are you becoming?

HOUSE OF ILLUSIONS

Welcome to Oasis, Florida.
A seaside town with white-sanded beaches,
lush greenery, and beautiful sunsets.
However, after the sun sets, dark shadows
appear on the streets and on the walkway along the beach.
Few dare to walk the streets alone at night.
The evil centers around the deserted End House,
which has a long history of disappearances and death.
It sits alone at the edge of a steep cliff, waiting for visitors.
A party is arranged at this house for the newer residents.
They are faced with frightening illusions, including: traps,
wild animals, swimming pools of blood, a room of worms.
They make it out alive but two of their own are trapped inside.
They find themselves embroiled in a deadly game with the
evil one controlling the town and everyone else.
This leader is the epitome of evil.
They don’t know if he’s a stranger or one of their own residents.
When he finally shows his face, they realize too late that they’re doomed.
How can they fight someone who is powerful enough to create
illusions as part of his evil game?
The residents will do their best to clean the town of the
deadly group even at a high cost to their own lives.
Linda and Shana won’t give up until the bitter end, even if
Todd and the sheriff refuse to help them.

THE DEAD GAME -- DAY 181

Todd explained to Linda and her friends the purpose behind Wolf's evil game, which was to rid the town of humans and vampires; so that The Dead could assume control of Oasis and then the world.

“Wolf’s reign of terror at End House had not satisfied his need for evil and destruction. His insatiable lust led him to form his own subversive group of vampires. The Dead brought fear and death wherever they traveled in the world. They easily lured unsuspecting humans to their wild parties and games; the perfect beauty of vampires made them irresistible to mere mortals. The more human blood they’d spilled and the more fear they’d aroused in humans, the stronger they became.
"Wolf was the one who planned the deadly party at End House. His plan had been to exterminate all humans and human vampires of Oasis that night, thereby establishing this town as his base of operations. From this base, he planned to launch a worldwide attack on all the vampires who’d refused to join his evil group, leaving only his malevolent group of vampires to rule the world.”

A book will have blank pages

It needs to follow a story,
a path to an ending.
Characters to fill the pages.
Words to brighten the pages

LIFE IS A STAGE

THE NIGHT.
THE SUN SETS.
THE MOON RISES.
WHAT WAS BRIGHT AND COLORFUL
DURING THE DAY IS NOW DARK AND GLOOMY.
THE STAGE IS SET.
THE SCENERY IS IN PLACE.
WE ARE READY FOR ANYTHING TO HAPPEN.
THE CURTAIN RISES.
ARE WE PREPARED?
WHAT WILL LIFE BRING TO US?
LET’S WAIT AND SEE.

THE DEAD GAME -- DAY 81

The group, which had followed Todd through his discoveries, climbed up behind him into the attic that spanned the entire width of the house. The long room was empty, except for an elaborate computer system with monitors set up along the back wall. Todd sat down in one of the two desk chairs and began to scroll through the rooms shown on the monitors. All the rooms appeared to be empty.
“Let’s test out this fancy equipment and see how the rooms are controlled from up here. From here, I can track what happens when someone follows the loop of rooms.” Todd was impatient to find some answers. Before he found these monitors, he’d concluded that a supernatural force had planned the party. But now he was open to a new possibility: a human could have devised and implemented the complicated computer system. He didn’t know which was more dangerous, since he was aware that humans could be just as devious and evil as any demons.
“I’ll follow the rooms in a circle and then retrace them in the opposite direction.” Sam was pacing back and forth in the room—over and over again. “And I’ll bring Shana along with me.”
“Linda can remain with me…while Mike and David can follow along with Carl.” Todd said.
They all seemed eager to follow his orders, except for Mike, who shot an annoyed look over his shoulder before climbing back down the ladder. Todd turned his face away, refusing to acknowledge Mike’s silly show of stubbornness. First Carl made unexplained disappearances, and now Mike had issues with authority. All the dangerous missions that he’d led in the past didn’t have all the grumblings, complaints, and disregard for authority that this group exhibited. He knew that if they didn’t learn to work well together as one close-knit unit, then they weren’t going to be successful in defeating their enemy. He had a lot of work ahead of him before he could bring this ragtag group to some semblance of working order.
