A PUFF OF SMOKE

Puff of smoke

A puff of smoke.
A flicker of light.
Life is sweet.
Life is short.
Gone in a puff of smoke.
Don’t close your eyes.
The candles flicker.
A life is gone.
Only THE DEAD
have the power.
Only THE DEAD
hold the cure.
Only THE DEAD
know who’s next.

WELCOME

Welcome to End House
“There she stood in the doorway;
I heard the mission bell
And I was thinking to myself
‘This could be heaven or this could be Hell’
Then she lit up a candle and she showed me the way”

FLEETING

A puff of smoke.
A flicker of light.
Life is sweet.
It is memorable.
It can be fleeting.
Gone in a puff of smoke.
Don’t close your eyes.
Keep them wide open.
Dangers lurk everywhere.
Poof!
A life is gone.
Is it yours?
Only THE DEAD
have the power.
Only THE DEAD
hold the cure.
Only THE DEAD
know who’s next.

BURN

Source:

It lights quick.
It burns fast.
I’m left alone in its wake
with the burnt ashes of my heart.

IN THE DARKNESS

Source:

Who sits there in the darkness?
No movement in the blackness.
As still as a fox waiting to pounce.
No hint of a ruffle or a flounce.

A soft sigh can be heard in the air.
Are those slithering snakes in her hair?
Shadows float amid the circling dust.
The walls trickle with blood or maybe rust.

The ghostly form stands tall to meet us.
She can be the hostess to greet us.
A deserted house this seems to be.
She hovers over us like a tree.

We stand alone in this bleak hall.
There won’t be dancing at this ball.
The candles flicker and go out.
I want to pull my hair and shout.

Time to leave this creepy place.
We must quicken our slow pace.
But since this is a horror story,
We will not be leaving with glory.

FOLLOW THE LIGHTS

Follow the lights to the house of glass.
There will be much splendor in the grass.
Lights in the trees as far as the eye could see.
A more decadent event there could not be.

Champagne will be flowing until the wee hours.
Come with me and dance with the pretty flowers.
This room full of guests gives me a chill.
Maybe we should leave I’ve had my fill.

Eyes are following us in the room.
They will be upon us all too soon.
The guests are not what they appear.
Beneath they are just bones and hair.

THE CANDLES ON THESE WALLS

The candles on these walls
throw shadows down the halls.
Shadows that float in the air,
horrors that I cannot bear.
Soft sighs follow in their wake,
my insides begin to quake.
Gargoyles stare at us from above,
I’m thrust forward by a hard shove.
Revolving rooms lead us through a maze.
I follow along, lost in a daze.
I ask, “How do we get out of here?”
My hands covering my face in fear.
Am I standing in a flood?
I look down at all the blood.
It flows from the indoor pool.
As you know I’m not a fool.
I’m out of here as quick as can be.
There’s nothing else I want to see.

WELCOME

Source:
WELCOME
Candles climb the stairs.
Sentries of the night.
We’re invited to a party.
Without a host.
More candles line the hallway.
Their lights beckon.
Empty rooms greet our hesitant steps.
An open door leads to darkness.
Stairs leading down.
The door slams behind us.
THE DEAD GAME has begun.
