I AM FREE

Floating in the dark of night
After the birds take flight.
Out in the sea, I drift alone,
Where no one else dares to roam.
Tears fall upon my face
As they step up their pace.
Flooded with grief and despair.
I free my braid and cut chunks of hair.
I don’t need to be a beauty anymore.
He’s walked out of the proverbial door.
I am free to drift with the night or
Visit the depths of the ocean floor.
No one searches for me.
I take a step, I’m free.

LOST IN THE RAIN

Lost in the rain.
Beaten down.
Alone.
Drifting.
Tired.
Wet.
Ready to give up.
On life.
On the world.
Curled up in a ball.
Ready for my last breath.
Then the unexpected happens.
The sun comes out.
The birds begin to chirp.
A wet breeze hits my face.
I look up into the sun.
I don’t feel alone anymore.
I feel alive.
I’m happy I waited.
Waited for time to pass.
For time to heal old wounds.
I’m ready to face the day.

THE OCEAN ROARS IN FURY
The ocean roars in fury.
As it washes away any intruders
from its gilded surface.
No boats to drift in its waters.
No swimmers to play in its waves.
Its anger is against all who
dare to enter its domain.
It lifts its arms in frustration.
It directs its violence against its shores.
No beach goers to lie in the sun.
All is dark.
All is quiet.
We must watch and wait.
Before we are allowed entry
into its vast domain.
Will we be worthy?
Is mankind ever worthy?
Will its waters recede?
The decision lies in the depths
of the deep ocean.

AN ISLAND DRIFTING IN THE OCEAN

Each one of us is an island.
An island drifting in the ocean,
picking up debris along the way.
The debris of life and experiences.
Some of us become open islands,
welcoming and self-sufficient.
While others build walls around their plot of land,
becoming lost and finally deserted.
Which type of island are you becoming?
