DEADLY PATH

DEADLY PATH

A path in the woods begs to be taken.
I will follow it and not be shaken.
I won't let chills overcome me.
The dark creatures will let me be.

I am going to the secret party.
I will return home alive and hearty.
A party in the woods can't be beat.
I can already feel the growing heat.

Up ahead I can see a dark house.
I sneak up as quiet as a mouse.
I walk inside the open door.
Who could ask for anything more?

No one is waiting inside.
Maybe they're waiting to hide.
A line of candles lead down the hall.
There is something moving in the wall.

It's time for me to leave this strange place.
I see a figure without a face.
It's time for me to go now
Without taking my last bow.

ALONE

ALONE

Alone in a sea of colors.
Drifting in place.
Reflecting on life.
Lost in my thoughts.
No need to move.
No reason to leave.

Not really alone.
Cocooned in my memories.
Amused by my thoughts.
Surrounded by my dreams.
Can never be alone.
Can never be lost.

Relaxed.
Comfortable.
Serene.
Happy.
Falling, falling...
Asleep.

MAGIC CARPET RIDE

Magic Carpet Ride
All in perspective.
Our views differ.
Our points of view vary.
Our outlooks change daily.
What is the truth?
What is in front of us?
Can we see it all?
Or only what we want to see?
Round and round we go
On the merry-go-round of life,
Taking in the views,
Our own unique views.
No one’s view
But our very own.

BLOOD MOON

BLOOD MOON

The moon is a foreshadow
Of things to come,
Frightening things,
Unhappy things.

Its red glow creeps through the trees
To the remote town,
Where all are asleep,
Feeling safe in their beds.

Creep, Creep, Creep,
The red mist spreads,
Down the streets
And into the homes.

The fog solidifies,
Forming dark shadows,
Shadows of the night,
Who have come to stay.

Game time!

COME CLOSER

COME CLOSER

Come close to the house.
Dare to peek inside.
You may be surprised
About what we hide.

The air will lift you
Into the night sky.
Come with the others
As you fly up high.

We will convene
In the main hall.
You will find out
What scares us all.

COLORS

talonwolf:

COLORS

A pretty picture to soothe my mind.
Bright colors to make feel happy.
A sprinkle of fireworks.
A bright ray of the sun.
A disco ball of mirrors.
A rainbow of colors.
Takes so little.
So little to make my day.

WELCOME

WELCOME

Do you feel unwanted?
Do you feel unwelcome to the town?
Nothing is further from the truth.
You are welcome to Oasis.
When the lights dim.
When the moon rises.
When the night air cools.
You are welcome.
As the darkness descends.
As the dark shadows appear.
As the streets become deserted.
You are welcome.
Welcome to roam the forest.
Welcome to visit End House.
The Dead love visitors.

They are waiting for you.

OASIS

OASIS

A more beautiful place cannot be.
It faces the waves of the dark sea.
White sand and quiet beaches galore.
You can’t ask for anything more.
Life is perfect as can be.
Come and frolic with me.
Tourists visit from far and wide.
Oasis is Florida’s pride.
Beware when The Dead descend.
We can no longer pretend
This is a perfect place to be
As The Dead rise up from the sea.
Darkness brings flying creatures and death.
Beware that this won’t be your last breath.

SWEPT AWAY

SWEPT AWAY

Lights twinkle on the horizon.
A horizon tinted pink by the night.
I walk past the mosaic trimmed pool.
A warm wind follows me.
I’m being swept away.
By the view.
By the lights.
By the beauty.
A contented sigh drifts on the wind.

TRAPPED

TRAPPED

We’re ready for the party.

We’re here for the dancing and music.

But where is everyone?

Candles lead us upstairs

To an endless maze of rooms.

More candles lead us downstairs

To a basement filled with water.

The windows won’t open.

The doors are locked.

Is it safer upstairs or downstairs?

Who will survive this night?

Who will survive this party?

The party has only just begun.

THE SINKHOLE

THE SINKHOLE

A sinkhole where the house has stood

Lies deep in the deserted wood.

Where has everyone gone to?

The grass and trees are gone too.

A house and garden have once stood here.

Now there is only the ground laid bare.

Could they be in the tunnels below?

And hear me if I yell out hello?

I hear rumbling coming from the hole.

The loose rocks are beginning to roll.

I should leave before it’s too late

And I suffer the same sad fate.

5 STAR REVIEW

There is something painfully wrong about the seemingly perfect town of Oasis
on May 25, 2015
The opening pages of "The Dead Game" grab you at the ankles and drag into the deeper story. There is something painfully wrong about the seemingly perfect town of Oasis. Without getting into spoilers, here's my take. Leist's cast of characters are interesting in and of themselves. They do leave you wanting to get to know them better; yet, as in real life you only get to see the sides and masks that others want you to see. That, to me, was the author's point. Everyone in Oasis seems to have an agenda, and it's hard to know what to believe. With that in mind, Leist does a great job of bringing to life the picturesque town of Oasis, and the menacing End House. The book is reminiscent of tales like "House on Haunted Hill," yet with its own twists on the supernatural thriller. The story is well-paced and the dangers faced by Leist's characters feels terrifyingly real. All in all, a good read. I look forward to reading more works from this author.

HERE COMES THE MOON

HERE COMES THE MOON

Here comes the moon.
Taking the place of heat.
Bringing with it a coldness.
A darkness.
Up it goes into the sky.
Towering above us all.
Ruling over its domain.
Some nights it reveals its full face.
Other nights it hides in the shadows.
While it watches.
Watches us.
While we wait for the heat to return.

A SPLASH

A SPLASH

A splash of water.
A splash of salt.
In my eyes.
In my mouth.
The taste.
The feel.
The joy.
Of summer fun.
Come and join us.

5 STAR REVIEW OF THE DEAD GAME

Couldn't put it down!
on May 4, 2015
A fast-paced, epic read! I'm already a sucker for a good horror novel but add in mystery and paranormal with a touch of romance, like this book does, and you've basically found my happy place. The Dead Game by Susanne Leist is a novel that will grip you from the very beginning, with good twists and turns that'll keep you guessing all the way until the end. Can't wait to read more from this author!

PINK SAND

PINK SAND

The sand so pink and soft.
Keeps my spirits aloft.
The water so clear and blue.
I want to enjoy that too.
Sun brightening the day.
All I want to do is play.

FALLING

FALLING

Will I fall from a great height
As I fight with all my might?
The dark creatures keep swiping at me
As I climb down the stairs to the sea.
We must escape from this haunted place,
Where demons are flying in my face.
I can hear them flying through the sky
Before they hit us from way up high.
Who are these demons from hell?
Their features I cannot tell.
Are they living or dead?
Are they part of The Dead?
Will someone come to save our poor town?
I’m losing my hold and falling down.
Falling down to the sharp rocks below.
My sure end after a quick hello.

Without bumps or surprises.

5 STAR REVIEW OF THE DEAD GAME

5 STAR REVIEW OF THE DEAD GAME

May 16, 2015

If you moved to a new town, opened a business, and strange things started to happen- would you stay? The main character in the story decides to stay long after I myself would have left. I had to keep reading the book to find out why menacing events in the community were occurring with greater and greater frequency. The author, Susanne Leist, combines several genres to tell her murder mystery. The book is a fast read. There are lots of twists, turns, supernatural things happening, Vampire conflicts, there’s a love story, and too much more to list. The narrative is put together very nicely and the dialog is very entertaining. As I came to the end of the book I thought about the Fourth of July and the grand finale- things in the story kept coming at you at an unbelievable pace and just when you thought it was over, there was a new development. Well done. This book is a good read.

THE NIGHT

Who dares to walk in the forest?
A forest tinged blue by the moon.
I sit each night, watching.
Watching for intruders.
Intruders who will fall victim.
Victims of The Dead.
Who dares to challenge The Dead?
They own the forest.
They own Oasis, Florida.
They own the night.
