THE EMPTY STAIRCASE

I close my eyes to sleep,
and what do I see?
The staircase from my past.
The stairs from my
elementary school.
I can hear the children’s voices
as they climb the stairs to classes.
I hear their shouts as they descend
to the basement for lunch.
I can’t see their faces.
I only hear their voices.
The staircase waits for me.
If I return,
will my dream go away?
I drift back to sleep and
dream of the empty staircase.

OUIJA BOARD

Give me your hands,
and I will speak to you
through the dead.
I will use their voices
and their memories.
Sit still and be quiet.
They will enter your bodies
and fill you with thoughts.
Thoughts of revenge
and plans for murder.
Enjoy the game.
The Dead love their games.

THE LONE ECHO

THE STAIRCASE

I close my eyes to sleep,
and what do I see?
The stairs from my
elementary school.
I  hear children’s voices
as they dash to their classes.
I hear their shouts
as they run to the basement for lunch.
I can’t see their faces
but only hear their voices.
All I can see is the empty staircase,
the lone echo of my childhood.

ECHO

THE STAIRCASE
I close my eyes to sleep,

The staircase from my past.
The stairs from my

I can hear children’s voices
as they run up the stairs to classes.
I can hear their shouts
as they run down to the basement...

The lone echo of my childhood.

THE INN

I hear voices from inside.
Laughter and cheering.
Clinking of glasses.
Sailing forth on
the silence of the night.
I hasten my steps.
I open the heavy door
and peer inside.
An empty room faces me.
No one in sight.
I step inside.
I can hear the voices.
The laughter.
I squint through the darkness.
A light shines on the tables,
where figures are drinking.
Transparent forms of people,
who once inhabited this inn.
They will laugh and be merry
until the end of time.
I raise my glass to them.

NIGHT WALK

Night Walk – {by Tiina Törmänen} | {Official WebSite}

A walk alone in the dark.
Feel the cold.
Smell the trees.
Hear the snow falling.
Watch the stars sparkle.
Engage all your senses.
No interference.
No voices.
No noises.
Only clean, fresh air.
And you.

CIRCLING

Thinking.
Words.
Ideas.
Plots.
Scenes.
Characters.
Voices.
Circling.
Revolving.
Into a book.

ALONE IN THE DARK

ALONE IN THE DARK

"I sit alone by the table.
I hear voices around me.
Sounds of movement.
Sounds of life.

I reach out.
I can feel the smoothness.
A plate.
A meal.

Smells waft by my nose.
Aromas of chicken.
Sweet smells of  pudding.
Smells of life.

What color is the food?
Is the sun shining in?
Are the faces around me young or old?
So many questions.

Questions I can't answer.
I can never answer.
For I am blind,
Have been blind for years."

The anguish my mother had faced
For most of her life.
Her sight stolen from her
At a young age.
Loss of sight.
Loss of colors.
Loss of faces.
Loss of memories.

THE EMPTY STAIRCASE

I close my eyes to sleep,
and what do I see?
The staircase from my past.
The stairs from my
elementary school.
I could still hear children’s voices
as they run up the stairs to classes.
I hear shouts as they run down
into the basement for lunch.
But I can’t see their faces.
I can only hear their voices.
All I see is the staircase,
waiting for me.
If I go back there, will
the dream go away?
Will new faces and voices
replace the old ones?
I’m too afraid to find out.
I don’t want new nightmares
to pile on top of the old ones.
So I’ll just go to sleep, and
dream about my empty staircase.

THE VOICE IN MY HEAD

Do you ever hear a voice in your head
yelling at you when no one is around?
You are sitting alone in a room.
It is quiet except for this irritating voice.
Who is the voice in your head?
My voice belongs to my husband.
Try music to drown it out.
Do you ever hear a voice in your head
yelling at you when no one is around?
You are sitting alone in a room.
It is quiet except for this irritating voice.
Who is the voice in your head?
My voice belongs to my husband.
