THE DOOR LOCKS

Kingdom Come

It welcomes.
It creaks.
It sighs.
Its door opens.
Candlelight streams out.
We peek inside.
Grim faces stare back.
Gargoyles stand sentinel
along the curving staircase.
The wind brushes our skin
with its unseen fingers.
Candles light the way
down the right hall.
Shadows move and sway
with the flickering candles.
The door locks behind us.
We’re in for the ride.
End House has spoken.

SILENCE

Desolate.
Alone.
Stark.
Cold.
Empty.
Sitting on a hill.
No houses nearby.
Only the comfort
of a bare tree.
The wind rattles
through my open beams.
Snow drifts in from my roof.
No peace.
Only cold.
And deafening silence.
Will it always be so?
Will the sun shine ever again?
Will horses return to my stables?
I could only wait and hope.

THE HOUSE

phoenix-in-ashes:
THE HOUSE

Enticing.
Dark.
Deserted.
Dusty.
Eerie.
So many words
to describe the house
and the winding staircase.
Afraid.
Alone.
Reluctant.
Uneasy.
Words to describe
how I feel inside
as I enter this house.
I will take it step by step.
One creaky step
followed by another.
Until I make it to the top.
What will I find there?
Creak, creak.
We will find out together.
Creak, creak.
Those weren’t my creaks.
I’m not alone in the house.
I’m leaving.
Bye.

SO HAPPY TOGETHER

A beautiful couple.
So happy together.
Fun times.
Sad times.
Good memories.
Unhappy losses.
New house.
Children.
Grandchildren.
Parties.
Funerals.
So happy together in life.
So happy together in death.

A HOUSE OF ICE

A HOUSE OF ICE

A house of ice,
built from solid blocks of ice
is unstable.
It is only temporary.
Once the sun comes out,
the bricks melt,
the house falls.
Like a house of lies.
Once the lies are uncovered,
the house collapses on itself.
A house’s foundation
must be built to be strong & true.

KNOCK KNOCK

djferreira224:

A house with personality.
Its own unique character.
Sitting on a rise of land.
Watching.
Waiting.
Maybe it isn’t the house,
who is watching and waiting,
but the character who lives inside.
Trick or treat.

A SAD HOUSE

seasons-in-hell:
TTT
A sad house.
It sits alone,
waiting for visitors.
Waiting for someone
to clean and fix it up.
A family would be preferable.
Even a family with a dog would
be better than the dead quiet.
It will continue to wait until its
shutters fall off and its roof sinks in.
As long as it has its four walls,
there will always be hope for better times.
If only walls could talk.

WHICH ONE?

wakaflackalypse:

Do you want the black house
or the colorful one?
Does the answer depend upon
your personality?
I might have a dark personality
but I’d rather have the colorful house.

ESCAPE ROUTE

Some days I want to escape to the wilderness.
Camp out under the stars.
Feel the dirt beneath my feet.
Jump into a cold lake or stream.
The ground feels hard and it does
get cold out at night.
I would need a little cabin to sleep in.
Maybe a stove or an oven to warm my food.
It might get a little lonely in the woods.
It would be nice to have some cabins or houses nearby.
Okay, I’m back where I started from—in a house with heating,
a microwave, a TV, and a computer.
It was a nice dream while it lasted.

Do you ever want to pack a small bag
and take a road to wherever it may lead you?
To try out new things and meet new people.
Each day would be a new adventure.
You’d be off the beaten path and end up
in a small town, maybe in a small diner.
People would know each others names.
Okay, I know it’s beginning to sound like
an episode from “Cheers” or “Gilmore Girls.”
But it does sound nice.

CHILDHOOD DREAMS

THIS IS SO TRUE
THAT IT IS CREEPY.
I TOLD MYSELF THAT I WILL NEVER LIVE
IN A HOUSE IN THE SUBURBS WITH
A WHITE PICKET FENCE.
GUESS WHERE I LIVE?

THE DEAD GAME--DAY 38

At the highest point on the mountain was Diane Rome’s circular house of green-tinted glass. As a world-famous sculptor, Diane created monumental sculptures in her home using a large range of materials that were delivered to her house. She was very sociable, and loved to travel the world for business and pleasure. She invited many of her friends and business acquaintances to the two large parties she hosted each year.
The narrow road took a sudden dip downward before
the next house, before Hayden Hoyt’s dark house, reported to be filled to the brim with antiques. His passion for the old had first led him to collect antiquities and then later on to become a world-renowned art dealer. He never permitted potential buyers to visit his house, but sold through museums and other dealers. His house was almost hidden from sight by the thick foliage surrounding his property. To Todd, the house looked very bleak and foreboding, but he was still very curious to get a glimpse inside.
