TRAPPED IN HELL

lilipilyspirit Deactivated
Sascha Schneider (German, 1870–1927), Eichenwald auf Ruegen (Oak Forest on Ruegen Island), 1925

The forest grows dark.
It comes alive.
Wood arms reach for me.
Roots uncurl from the ground.
Trees shake and dance.
As the wind moans.
Dark shadows follow me.
Moonlight teases me.
I’m trapped in hell,
where the sun doesn’t shine.

THE FALLEN

Sherbrooke Forest | By Penny Whetton

 THE FALLEN

Tree branches bend,
scarred by age.
Beaten by the storm,
many hit the ground
amid piles of leaves.
Without a proper burial,
no one mourns their loss.
The fallen won’t be forgotten
as replacements take root
in the shade of the tall trees.
Sunshine filters through the forest,
lighting the way for the future.

FEEL THE GREEN

FEEL THE GREEN

A seat on a bench is what I seek,
But a veil of green taunts for a peek.
It pulls me deeper into the maze.
I follow in a dark kind of daze.
Squawks and shrieks call to me
As I try to break free.
Branches wrap tight around my neck.
On my cheek, I feel a light peck.
I look up to eyes so blue and true.
I cannot believe it’s only you.
I’m in my bed safe and sound
With no horror to be found.

THE JUNGLE

Take me into the jungle.
Across the bamboo bridge.
To where it’s hot and humid.
And exotic creatures come to life.
Branches hit me in the face.
Bugs bite my hands and legs.
Greenery attempts to bury me.
But this is the life I want to live.

THE DEEP

THE DEEP
The water sparkles.
A bottomless pit.
Shadows of tree limbs
drift along its murky surface.
It snatches pieces of debris
on its journey down river.
Rocks, branches, leaves…
fall into its dark abyss.
Something is moving.
A hand.
Reaches for me.
An inky black hand.
What should I do?
Wait.
Two arms.
A dark figure
emerges from the water.
Too big to be human.
It’s facing me.
It doesn’t have eyes.
A dark shadow,
dripping inky slime.
It roars.
It walks toward me.
I want to run.
I want to hide.
But I can’t.
My feet are stuck to the ground.
More roaring sounds.
More creatures are rising.
Is this real?
Am I dreaming?
All becomes quiet.
No roaring.
What happened?
“What are you doing?”
I turn around.
I’m standing in front
of the TV screen.
My friends stare back at me.
I’m blocking a horror movie.
I feel embarrassed.
I feel myself being hit
by popcorn.
Another Saturday night.

WINTER COLD

I feel so cold.
Ice is forming on my arms.
What is happening to me?
Why are my leaves drying up?
Ouch.
A cold wind just hit me in the face.
I wish I could hide.
But I’m stuck in place.
Waiting.
And waiting.
I think I fell asleep.
For the sun is out.
My ice is melting.
The breeze is now warmer.
It’s brushing the snow
off my cold arms.
My arms feel less heavy.
Soon it will be spring.
Time for celebration.
I can’t wait to see my
green leaves again.
Birds will return to
sit on my arms.
They will build their nests.
Life will be good again.
Only a few short months left.
I will take another snooze.
See you in the spring.

I WILL GROW

I will grow.
I will reach the stars.
I don’t care about the graves
or the mausoleums.
I don’t care that
The Dead
walk the night.
I will grow leaves.
I will stay here.
I will stay alive.

THE TREE

THE TREE

The tree appears dark and looming.
It could use some proper grooming.
I want to take a walk between its legs,
Growing tall from the ground like giant pegs.
By its rules we must strictly abide.
Imagine the secrets it must hide.
Come walk with me in its deep shade.
Through the fallen leaves we will wade.
A canopy of leaves above our heads
As we fall asleep in our leafy beds.

A TREE

A TREE

A tree.
A symbol of hope.
Standing for freedom.
Withstanding the storms.
Arms raised to the sky.
Forever more.

Stand with me.
Give me courage.
To hold my head up high.
Solid as your roots.
Forever more.

Stay with me.
As time goes by.
Alone I stand.
No friends nearby.
Forever more.

THE STRAIGHT AND NARROW

flowersgardenlove:

What if our paths in life were obvious?
Set up before us.
Clearly outlined.
No branches.
No deviations.
Just the straight and narrow.
Would life be simpler?
Would life be easier?
Or would it be boring?
Too obvious.
Too narrow.
Too defined.
No choices.
No chances.
No deviations.
Definitely boring.

A NEW BEGINNING

A picture is definitely worth a thousand words.
This picture makes me feel relaxed and at peace.
The rain hitting the puddles hypnotizes and soothes me.
The beautiful scenery is being washed and renewed
by the cold crisp rain.
The tree's branches hang low
from the weight of the water.
The flowers lift their colorful faces
for their washing.
Afterward, everything will smell wet and clean.
The sun will reveal the wet sheen covering the earth.
All will be fresh for a new day--a new beginning.
