Dark skies are moving in.

The town is dark as sin.

Rumbling fills the humid air,

And The Dead will soon be here.

Hail begins to fall,

Big as a baseball.

Lightning joins the hot fray.

I’m not going to stay.

We must escape this night

Before we lose the fight.

He has come for me.

I’m as afraid as I can be.

Take me into the jungle.

Across the bamboo bridge.

To where it’s hot and humid.

And exotic creatures come to life.

Branches hit me in the face.

Bugs bite my hands and legs.

Greenery attempts to bury me.

But this is the life I want to live.

 

A TROPICAL PARADISE

Let’s take the green carpet

Through the dense bush.

Mosquitoes our constant companions

Through the moisture-laden air.

Exotic plants fan our way

Through the sounds of the forest.

Shrieks and shouts accompany us

Through the rustling trees.

Snapping sounds follow us

Through our trek in the water.

The tempo quickens.

The beat picks up.

The air becomes heavier.

The sky greener.

We become one with nature.

Lost in a tropical paradise.

Why me?
I go swimming every week
So my legs won't feel tired or weak.
Don't know why my legs have to swell.
A disease created in hell.

Why me?
A bigger nuisance there can't be.
It makes life much harder for me.
Humidity is my enemy
As I cry out, "Stay away from me."

Why me?
I want to begin a day feeling well.
That's why I have this story to tell.
Life has these hurdles we must overcome.
Most of them aren't any kind of fun. 

Why me?
This question has no answer for me.
It is just the way things have to be.
My father suffered from this in quiet.
I will follow his lead and not riot.
