THE DEAD GAME -- DAY 155

Linda and her friends entered Wolf's dark house. Little did they know what was in store for them.

The house was quiet. The lights were off, no sounds coming from any of the rooms. Then all the lights lit up at once, revealing Wolf standing in the middle of the hall—directly in front of them. One second there was air and the next second there was Wolf; Shana had forgotten how easily he could shift shapes and reality.
“Welcome, my dear friends! It’s so good to see you again!” Wolf spoke in a loud voice that reverberated off the high walls.
Shana whispered to Linda, “For dinner, I suppose.”
     “Ha! Ha!” Wolf said.
Realizing that his hearing was superhuman, Shana hoped that he couldn’t also read minds. Wolf gave her a wicked wink, causing her to freeze with fear. How could they fight someone who could read their minds?
“You definitely can’t,” Wolf said with a smug look on his face. The others were watching the strange interaction between Shana and Wolf, realizing too late that they’d unwittingly placed themselves in a no-win situation.
“Come in and enjoy what is left of your miserable lives,”Wolf said as he swept his right arm outward to indicate the large room before them.
The eyes of the portraits on the walls were watching them; Shana remembered them from their earlier visit. She pointed to one of the many life-sized statues displayed about the room. This one portrayed a monstrous creature. “Is this what you really look like?” she asked.
“Be careful or you can become one.”
     Shana fell silent.

so-personal:

You don’t know what lies behind a door,
unless you open it.
On the other side, there could be
something magical.
Or something earth shattering
and deadly.
In The Dead Game, the magical door
opens to any place that you might imagine.
But there is also a second door in
Oasis, Florida.
This door opens to your worst nightmare.
Where is this door now?
It was in End House but the house was destroyed.
Was the door also destroyed?
Read The Dead Game and find out.

THE CREATURES FROM HELL

THE CREATURES FROM HELL

We must take cover in the church.
Evil is following us.
The skies have opened up and
have let out the creatures from hell.
The most demented creatures with
bat bodies and human faces.
The windows are shattering!
They’re entering the church!
Where’s the priest and his
famous spells?
No one is safe from The Dead
and their minions.

THE DEAD GAME -- DAY 146

Todd was hoping that Hayden was still around and hadn’t snuck off into the night as he drove past the thick bushes and massive trees that outlined Hayden’s remote plot of land. He wasn’t too eager to face Hayden on his home turf. He glanced across at Sam, who seemed to be having his own doubts—judging by the amount of squirming he was doing in his seat. They drove up to the house that stood silently waiting for them.
A warm wind was rustling through the leaves of the tall trees that shrouded the bleak house. Low-hanging limbs swiped at their legs with their long, skinny fingers as they walked up the gravel path. The wind blew leaves in circles around their feet, trying to slow their ascent up the steep stairs. They crunched through the fallen leaves to reach the front door.
Todd couldn’t locate a bell, so he rapped loudly with his knuckles. There was no answer. The door began to drift open on its own. A long, dark hallway gradually came into view. Rare masterpieces lined both walls, starkly illuminated against the muted walls by bright spotlights suspended from high above.
The deafening silence felt alive and heavy—as if someone was there with them waiting, but not yet willing to reveal himself. A cold draft hit them. In the translucent stream of air, Todd could see shadowy forms fighting against each other, struggling to break free. “Are those vampires caught in the wind?” asked Todd, beginning to regret his decision to enter the house without sufficient back-up. “Did you notice those strange forms floating in the air?”
He continued, “I’ve never seen anything like that before.” Not hearing a response from Sam, he tried to downplay his concern a little. “It could have been just an elaborate illusion.”
When Sam still didn’t respond, Todd turned around and found him standing as still as a statue, eying the flow of air with fear in his eyes. “Sam? Are you still with me?” Sam didn’t answer or move a muscle.
Todd knew that he had to continue on with the search—with or without Sam. He called out Hayden’s name, his voice echoing down the empty corridor. Still no one answered.
He followed the faintly lit hallway until its end, where it opened onto a huge oval-shaped ballroom. He stood in the center of the room in the bright light cast by the enormous crystal chandelier. The light reflecting from the hanging crystals shot colorful prisms of light across the multitude of artwork all around him. Hundreds of statues by eminent artists were haphazardly scattered about the shiny marble floor; the walls were decorated with priceless paintings in massive frames.
He wandered through the ballroom and recognized Rembrandts, Picassos, and even Renoirs, filling every available space on the gilded walls. At the back of the room, he noticed a circular staircase with elaborate gold railings, leading up through the ceiling to the floor above.
“There are no other rooms on the main floor, so we might as well check upstairs.” Surprised to hear Sam’s voice, Todd spun around to find him standing right behind him. Todd slowly nodded his head in agreement, even though he suspected that this was what Hayden expected them to do next. It was almost if Hayden had put out a sign that read: “Stupid human vampires! Come up my staircase at your own risk!”
As soon as they began to climb the stairs, the air turned colder and more frigid.
     Now, let the games begin.

THE DEAD GAME -- DAY 145

Todd believed it was time to take control of the situation at Oasis. Too many people were disappearing from the town. People were beginning to suspect that vampires were involved.

As Todd held Linda, he realized that she was holding herself much stiffer than usual. He wondered what had really transpired between her and Wolf. He had seen them embracing and kissing very passionately. He hoped that she hadn’t been fooled by Wolf’s charms, which he had always been able to skillfully employ to his own advantage. He’d have to keep a closer watch over her in the future and make sure she stayed far away from Wolf.

Chapter 24
Early Saturday morning Todd drove into town leaving Linda sound asleep in her apartment. He wanted to meet with Sam alone.
The sheriff’s office was quiet: the desks stood empty, the phones were silent, and no one was handcuffed or waiting to see the sheriff. He opened the door to Sam’s private office and found him bent over his desk, busy doing paperwork. He looked up as Todd strolled in. Too bad Sam had grown accustomed to having him plan all their maneuvers. However, this time he wasn’t so sure that he could annihilate a powerful enemy whose members still remained a mystery.
He wanted to hear Sam’s opinion on the idea that he’d mentioned to Linda last evening. “We could interrogate Hayden. Since he was first loyal to us, he might be persuaded to switch sides and come back to us.”
“That’s a pretty far-fetched idea, but I’m willing to go along with anything right now. Shana is terrified of me. She doesn’t know what to believe anymore. She thinks that I’m some strange creature.”
“No, of course she doesn’t. I saw her gazing at you with affection. She looked very comfortable in your arms. Once we explain to them about human vampires, Linda and Shana will feel safer and let us protect them. We can’t worry about that now. Come on! We have a job to do!”

THE LURE OF DARK MAGIC

Witchcraft has been practiced
for many years.
Witches have even been burned
at the stake.
What is appealing about dark magic?
Is it the rituals?
What about the crystal ball?
Maybe it is the lure of ultimate power
over mere mortals.
I believe that it’s all the above.
It’s fun to believe in something
that extends beyond our physical bodies
into a whole new realm of thoughts and ideas.
We all desire something greater for ourselves.
So believe and dream
and keep your mind forever open.

THE DEAD GAME -- DAY 138

Linda and her friends were eavesdropping on the conversation taking place in the dimly lit room--upstairs at Diane's party.

Chapter 23
Todd stood up to confront Wolf. “Were you the one responsible for all the deaths and disappearances at End House?”
His deep voice resonated in the huge room. “We were chosen to protect the town and its innocents—not to destroy them!”
Wolf moved slowly forward to meet Todd’s gaze head-on. Hayden stood up to stand by his side.
“I’m stronger than all of you combined. Don’t ever threaten me, or you’ll be sorry. I know that you enjoy your innocents,” said Wolf with a cruel laugh—the same laugh that Todd had heard when he’d fled his house with Linda and Shana.
Todd thought of Linda, fearing that he wasn’t strong enough to protect her and her friends from such pure evil. It was important for him to keep his mind clear for the upcoming battle so he shifted his focus back to Wolf. “The townspeople know of The Dead. It’s not a well-kept secret any longer. It won’t be long before everyone knows about your evil group and your sick plans to destroy mankind. Are you their great leader?”
“I am the true leader of The Dead, since I am the strongest vampire in the world. Your vampires are weak, since you refuse to drink human blood. Animal blood has made your leaders timid like women. All of you will soon be extinct. The Dead will rise up proud and strong! We’ll finally take our rightful place and control the world!”
“We have many more followers than you do around the world. We are growing in number with no sign of ever dying out.”
“Most of those so-called followers of yours are now following me. Soon it will be all over for you!” Wolf shouted before disappearing.
Todd turned to Hayden. “Are you with him or with us?”
Hayden turned his back on him to march out of the room, giving Todd the answer that he’d suspected all along.
