FOLLOW THE CANDLES

FOLLOW THE CANDLES
Follow the candles
to where they lead.
Along the dark corridor, you walk,
expecting a monster at every corner.
No one appears.
No sounds break the dead quiet.
Along the corridor, you go,
waiting for something or someone.
You see darkness and candles.
A door appears at the end.
It creaks open.
Do you want to see the other side?
Human nature propels you
into the dark gloom.
What happens next?
The answer is hidden in the
inner recesses of your mind.
Follow your nightmare to its end.
Hurry before you wake.
There’s no turning back.
The Dead are waiting.

THE NIGHT COMES

THE NIGHT COMES

The night comes,
Dragging its feet,
Lurking in the corners.
Come to me.
I can’t wait much longer.
Your time is limited.
Enter my domain.
The wind sighs.
The moon shows its face.
The birds flee.
The spirits rise.
Yes, move closer.

TRAPPED IN WONDERLAND

Crowds of people.
Cars honking.
People pushing.
Where are they going?
A blur to me.
A mass of humanity.
Hurrying to their end.
No individuality.
No manners.
A need to get somewhere fast.
Trapped in their thoughts.
In a hurry to go nowhere.

CLOSER TO THE BLUE

CLOSER TO THE BLUE

Puffy clouds appear far and few
In the aqua sky so brand new.
I sink deeper into the white sand,
My heart beating like a marching band.

If I close my eyes tight,
will I see paradise this night?
It takes me back to the time
When everything had been fine.

Fantasy, I beseech thee.
Return me so I can roam free.
Take me back to the shore.
Where I’d been happy before.

ALL WILL BE GONE

The moon is distant.
The stars keep their distance.
Trees and grass retreat from sight.
The ice caps recede daily.
Soon they will be memories
of the destruction, we have wrought.

THE END

The end is near.
The end is here.

KEEP YOUR EYES CLOSED

The past calls.
A past filled with parties.
Balls held at the castle.
Dancers in the moonlight.
Close your eyes.
A carriage waits for you.
You arrive at the castle.
Footmen escort you.
You ascend the staircase,
wearing your new ball gown.
A man leads you to the dance floor.
Close your eyes.
Yes, it is a dream.
Keep your eyes closed,
and sway to the music.

DARE TO DREAM

DARE TO DREAM
I stare into the night.
I gaze at the unknown.
I dare to dream of flight
Before the time has flown.
When the night comes softly
On feet as light as air,
I can see more clearly
Of what I can dare.
Alone on this hilltop
With the freezing wind and cold,
I will race without stop
To places, I can be bold.
Darkness hides secrets and lies
Beneath its cloak of despair.
Secrets that severs all ties
Until the sun rises clear.

SING ME A SONG

moving piano keys

SING ME A SONG
Sing me a song.
Write a melody
Of times gone by
And moments lost in time.
Stroke the keys.
Massage the ivories.
Raise your voice high
So I can hear your words.
Words of hope and loss.
Sing them loud and clear.
Stories of faraway places
And times that are gone.
I close my eyes.
I can hear your words.
I see your fingers
Stroking the keys.
The words take flight.
They reverberate through time.
They leave your lips
To land on mine.
A sweet melody
To soothe my advancing years.
A pretty song To fill my empty heart.

THE BEAST WITHIN

THE BEAST WITHIN
A beast lurks within us,
yearning to be free.
Tame the savage
or risk becoming one.

STAND ALONE

Humans form groups and cliques.
A few stand apart from the pack.
They are the ones
who become leaders.

A HOUSE OF ICE

A house of ice
is temporary.
Once the sun shines,
its bricks melt.
Similar to a house of lies.
Once the lies are uncovered,
the structure collapses.
An unstable foundation
isn’t built to last.

PERSEVERANCE

PERSEVERANCE
We suffer illnesses and deaths.
We fight to survive.
Why?
Why does a flower bloom
during an early frost?
Hope.
Hope for warmer days ahead.
We hope for better times.
Hope keeps us alive and warm.
