THE HALLWAY

Green Hallway

The hallway awaits.

It beckons.

It calls.

Doors line either side.

Shrill cries fill the air.

Cold creeps into my bones.

Then silence descends.

I peek into the first room.

Empty wheelchairs face me.

Except for one.

It turns, rolls to me,

then stops.

I freeze.

The lights flash.

A table appears at the far wall.

A bright surgical light hangs above.

The men in white coats face me.

I open my mouth to scream.

I'm strapped to the table.

The men in white peer at me.

A drill whirls next to my ear.

I struggle against the thick straps.

The room goes black.

THE DEAD COME ALIVE AT NIGHT

The hotel floor creaks.
I slowly turn around.
Where are The Dead freaks?
I hear no other sound.

The lights flicker.
Can the rumors be true?
I feel sicker.
The Dead will take me too.

I can see their faces.
Dark eyes stare at me
As they take their places.
I’ll never be free.

I run through the hall,
But I’m running in place.
I give up and fall.
A grin covers his face.

He leers at me.
Eyes glowing bright red.
A sight to see.
I won’t see my bed.

He lifts me in his arms.
We fly into the dark night.
I won’t fall for his charms.
The Dead come alive at night.

THE HALLWAY

Green Hallway
The hallway waits.
It beckons.
It calls to me.
Green lights the way.
Doors open and close.
Cries fill the air.
A coldness descends.
Then total silence.
I inch forward.
Step by painstaking step.
I peer into a room.
A bed in an empty room.
The next room holds a wheelchair.
It turns.
Empty.
A green light glows.
From the room ahead.
Sounds of voices.
I move closer.
Until I can see inside.
Surgery is being performed.
On a skeleton.
By smiling people.
People who fade in and out.
Ghosts.
Time for me to leave.
I’m on the bed.
The ghosts are looking down.
At me.
Too late.

HEAR THE WHISPERS

The peace.
The quiet.
The hush of the hallways.
The smell of books.
The taunt of knowledge.
Sit at a table.
Sit by the stacks.
Sit in the corner.
Absorb the essence.
Hear the whispers.
Of readers.
Of authors.
Read about love.
About adventure.
About history.
About life.

CAN YOU SEE?

Lights flickering non-stop.
Cries filling the air.
Darkness revealing the truth.
Not seen in the light of day.

FOLLOW THE CANDLES

The candles are leading us.
No one seems to be home at End House.
But the house is beckoning us.
It wants us to follow the flickering lights.
Should we go down to the basement?
What could be awaiting us there?
It can’t be anything good.

THE LIGHT AT THE END

Life can feel like an endless hallway
with closed doors on either side.
You must decide which door to
open and whether to venture inside.
Some doorways lead to happiness
and some to sadness.
You must continue through the tunnel
to reach the light at the end.
Only then will all be explained.
