UNMASKED

I must flee this scene.
I must not be seen.
Your mask has dropped.
You must be stopped
before our town is taken over
by my so-called former lover.

MASKED

mask (1)

Who will save our town?
I stand in my gown,
gazing at the masked guests,
wondering who gives the tests.
The one who runs the evil game
and brought to our town deadly fame.

UNMASKED

The mask has cracked.
I can’t keep it together.
A fight to be perfect.
A battle to be accepted.
The mask has cracked.
Game over.

A battle to be accepted.
The mask has cracked.
The game is over.

LOST FACE

Garis Edelweiss (Indonesian, b. 1984, Pasuruan, Jawa Timur, Indonesia) – Maddah-Sarasvati, 2017  Drawings: Pencil on Paper

A picture is worth a thousand words.
What words does this picture inspire?
A woman whose face is lost,
To be replaced by bouncing balls.
What are we without our faces?
What will we have left to show the world?
The image brings forth feelings of confusion,
An imbalance created by the lack of face.
Our faces are needed to reveal our true selves.
Without them, we are useless like
balls forever bouncing by an unseen force.

THE DEVIL HIDES HIS FACE

He has come for me.
I’ll never be free.
He comes this night.
Fear at first sight.

He claims his love.
But he’s no dove.
He’s evil as can be.
Always searching for me.

I must hide until morning.
Or the town will be mourning.
The devil hides his face.
I know his deadly pace.

His footsteps ring hollow.
Steps quicken to follow.
He sings a sweet song.
I know I’m not wrong.

The devil is right behind me.
Even though his face I can’t see.
He has me in his grasp.
I cry out with a gasp.

He kisses me with passion.
I know this is his fashion.
To take what is not his.
And make me only his.

AN ICE FANTASY

An ice heaven waits for us.
Ice statues in paradise.
A party in the dark night.
I refuse to run from fright.
Guests twirl around the dance floor.
I can take this anymore.
No melting until the sun shines bright.
For now, I must halt my morning...

I refuse to run from fright.
Guests twirl around the dance floor.
I can take this anymore.
No melting until the sun shines bright.
For now, I must halt my morning flight.
We must uncover The Dead creatures.
Behind masks, I can see their features.
They’re cold as death in the morning.
For me, they will soon be mourning.
But I must help to free our town.
I think this as I twirl around.

UNMASKED

UNMASKED
Show me your face.
Reveal your true colors.
Take off your mask.
What lies underneath?
Without your arrogant facade.
Your roguish manner.
Your flirty ways.
What lies underneath?
Walk to me.
As yourself.
Without lies.
So I can see what lies...

Show me your face.
Reveal yourself.
Take off your mask.
What lies underneath?

Without your arrogant facade.
Your roguish manner.
Your flirty ways.
What lies underneath?

Walk to me.
As yourself.
Without lies.
So I can see what lies underneath.

Let the mask fall to the ground.
Let it break.
Shatter to pieces.
I can now see what lies underneath.

The music stops.
The dancers stand still.

BEAUTY OF THE NIGHT

He comes in the night for me.
He is much too strong for me.
His beauty I can only see.
His evil is hidden from me.
I do not see his grotesque face.
Only his mask he puts in place.
Take me with you now in the night.
To me you’re a beautiful sight.
He lifts me high into the air.
And whisks me away to his lair.

MASK

mask
This is the real me.
Behind the mask.
I may seem bright and happy,
but underneath I’m deadly.
Deadly serious about
those who provoke me.
Keep your distance from me
and from all of THE DEAD.
For we do not make friends.
Only enemies.
