THE DEAD GAME

They’re coming!
They’re coming for us.
No place to hide.
Huge bats are attacking.
Bats with human faces.
They’ve come to Oasis, Florida.
The church is burnt to the ground.
The Town Hall’s windows
are shattered to pieces.
Nowhere to run.
No place to hide.
Stay away.
Stay clear of Oasis.
The Dead play for keeps.

THE DEAD GAME

HAPPY HUNTING

The door in Oasis, Florida opens to your heart's desire.
Imagine a scene in your mind, open the door,
and walk through to your destiny.

You can stay for as long as you want,
just as long as the door keeper is present
to allow your return.
Or else you might be forever
trapped in your own creation.

Be careful what you wish for.
Dreams can have many interpretations.
Some pleasant and some deadly.

The door is only temporary.
It can pop up anywhere.
Vampires allow its use,
but it comes with risks.

Do you want to escape a town
full of vampires and human vampires?
Escape witches, demons, and evil shadows?
Then come and try the door.

You'll never know the consequences unless
you walk through its doorway.
Happy hunting.

THE DEAD GAME--DAY 34

Todd had made sure that his appointments ended early for the day. He was about to leave when Natalie Fisher called out for him to wait for her. She hurried to catch up to him as fast as her short legs allowed. She was a tiny lady in her sixties who was a very efficient personal assistant. She took care of most things in his life, except for anything that involved the private lives of Oasis’ residents. Despite her insistence that he needed her personal touch in his personal life, he kept his private life off limits. He knew that once Natalie took over a chore, she got much too involved and controlling.
“I have important papers for you to sign before tomorrow’s meeting,” puffed Natalie.
“I’ll be in early. Leave them on my desk and I’ll sign them in the morning.” He walked out the front door.
“I’ll come in early and then we’ll look them over together,” Natalie declared. “You cannot trust anyone in town to leave papers on your desk unattended.” She stood on the sidewalk, huffing and puffing from her short run.
To allow her time to catch up to him, he had to stop in his tracks. He couldn’t believe that she was in such poor shape—after running errands for him all day, every day. He decided to be a little easier on her in the future.
“Thanks Natalie,” Todd replied. “I don’t know
what I would do without you in my life.”
“Maybe find a nice girl and settle down.”
He wondered to himself if it would ever be possible
for him to find a woman whom he could trust with his
unusual way of life.
“Good night Natalie,” he responded before walking to his car.

THE DEAD GAME–PAGE A DAY–DAY 13

THE DEAD GAME--PAGE A DAY--DAY 13
Later that day, Shana entered the bookstore with a very frightened look plastered across her white face. She was wearing a long flowing dress with bunches of chains hanging around her neck, and a huge collection of bangles on her arms. Linda heard the musical jingling of Shana’s jewelry even before she spotted her standing inside the front door of her shop.
She rushed over to greet Linda. “My cards have predicted horrendous things happening to us at the party Friday night. The Angel of Death appeared in my cards, which could only mean death for some or all of us.”
Linda didn’t remember ever seeing Shana so terrified before from a reading of her cards. She couldn’t decide if she should be concerned or not. Maybe this was why Shana had been acting strange before the barbeque. If this was a normal town, then she could just shrug it off, but this was Oasis, a very unusual town with a long history of strange episodes. Secret meetings and shadowy figures were commonplace.
“No one is here, so you don’t need to whisper. You have always stated that the cards were only for fun and not based on reality.”
Shana shook her head back and forth. “This town is full of secrets, and you don’t know which wall has ears. I’ve never told you this before, but my cards have never been wrong. That’s the reason why I’d opened my shop. I can see things most people cannot see or even imagine. But many people in town hate my shop and want to close me down…they’re afraid that I’ll unearth all their horrible secrets. But I’m staying until the bitter end….”
Feeling her heart skip a beat, she asked, “What end? What horrible secrets?”
Instead of acknowledge her questions, Shana quizzed her, “Who are you going with to the party?”
Linda knew that if Shana refused to answer a question, then nothing on this earth would be able to budge her.  “Todd has offered to accompany me…just to watch over me.”
“Good! Definitely go with Todd! He’ll keep you safe. Remember! Stick with him the whole night and don’t leave his side for even one second!”
Linda was about to ask why but Shana was already out the door.

THE DEAD GAME--Day 9 Of Page A Day Reading

Linda was thinking about her town and her friends.  She is about to open the mysterious invitation.

The grassy park was bordered on one end by the beach’s
walkway and on the opposite end by Edward and Tom’s hardware store. The next store was Oasis Rentals, where Shirley conducted her business while delving into everyone’s personal life. Her neighbor was Louise’s Dress Up, which offered an extensive line of lingerie, hats, shoes, bags, and anything else the wealthy woman might require. Louise catered to the elite of Oasis, but had never been asked to socialize with them. That had to be the reason for all the jealousy that she’d been exhibiting toward Todd.
Her mind drifted to her other friends in town. She thought about David and Mike. Their relationship was strange—a kind of love-hate relationship. Their antique store fronted Main Street with two wide picture windows. Their unique shop, called Artsy, was loaded with furniture, lamps, and art. Most of their business was procured from the new artists that they searched out and discovered in the local area.
Next door to Artsy was Linda’s shop. Her corner store provided her with ample views of the walkway, beach, and ocean. She was also afforded close-up views of Todd’s building across the narrow street. The only other store on the side street was Nirvana, Shana’s horoscope reading, incense, and novelty shop. Shana floated around her store as light as air…wearing her long flowing skirts…with her ready smile and bright laughter.
Linda shook her head and scolded herself for analyzing everyone and everything in town, when what she needed to be doing was preparing for that evening’s barbeque. She walked into her bright yellow kitchen, where her two cats were waiting to be fed. Gypsy was black and white with short, thick fur, while Pepper was a Maine Coon with grey and white long fur and a huge fluffy tail.
After feeding them, she checked the living room to see if her cats had messed anything up. She found everything in its proper place. This made her feel safe and secure, even though it was getting harder to feel safe in a town where dark figures roamed the streets at night, residents hid in their homes during the daylight, and people disappeared from sight never to be seen or heard from again. But this was her Oasis, with all its quirkiness.
She loved the layout of her apartment, where the downstairs rooms wrapped around a central staircase. The dining room and the living room offered unobstructed views of the beach through floor-to-ceiling windows, while the cheerful kitchen in the back offered a panoramic view of the heavily wooded hill.
Upstairs, her bedroom’s sliding doors opened to a balcony, overlooking the beach and ocean. Each morning she woke up to brilliant sunshine and calming breezes, while at night she drew the blinds tight against the dark that brought with it creeping shadows.
Returning to the front hall, she picked up the mysterious black envelope. She drew out a thick piece of black paper. Large bold words were written in white upon the black background.

     It read,
     “You are Cordially Invited to
     An Evening of Intrigue
Mysteries to Solve and Games to Play
     10:00 pm Sharp
     Friday the 13th
     End House at Oasis”

um-this-is-awkward:

Looks like the part of my book when the house comes alive and attacks the family. Doors and cabinets begin to fly.

THE DEAD GAME--EACH DAY A PAGE IS REVEALED

Each day, I'm going to post a page from my book. They will be consecutive. This way everyone has a chance to read my book online for free, since I wrote my book for everyone to enjoy.
Think of my book as a cross between the TV shows, The Vampire Diaries and The Originals. It also contains murder and mystery, similar to Elementary.
If you enjoy supernatural, mystery, and murder, then you should enjoy my book.
If anyone has comments on how to make my book even better, then please post away. Nothing is perfect and there's always room for improvement. I wrote for you, the readers, so let me hear your thoughts.
ENJOY READING!

PROLOGUE
END HOUSE AT OASIS

Five Years Earlier

Diane ran through the heavy darkness—darkness that she could feel pressed against her cold, sweaty skin. She raced for her life. Dodging flying chairs, tables, lamps…she dashed to the wide staircase looming before her, watching and waiting for her. The beautiful marble staircase had become her bitter enemy. As she stumbled up its red carpet runner, the staircase heaved its massive, slumbering weight against her to dislodge her unwanted presence and to thrust her into the never-ending darkness.
Why had she been so stubborn? Why had she turned a
blind eye to the obvious evil that had been living in the house? Why had she remained so long in this malevolent house? In her heart, she’d always suspected the worst. The house had its own hidden agenda: After ridding itself of her and her family, the powerful evil lurking behind its walls, beneath its stairs and floors, and deep down below its earth-bound foundation would be free to be unleashed on the poor unsuspecting residents and tourists of Oasis.
But no one or nothing was going to stop her from saving
her terrified children from the horror surrounding them all. Panting, she heard her husband’s footsteps pounding up  the stairs behind her. They were going to make it in time…they had to.

At the top of the staircase, she stepped into an alternate
reality as an unnatural and surreal scene opened up before
her. With the hall lights flickering on and off, pictures and
lights flew through the air to land crumpled at her feet.
Loud moans filled the hallway—moans that seemed to be
emanating from inside the walls. She shrieked as skinny
arms pushed their way through the shuddering walls: long
arms with long jagged nails jutting from the tips of their
scrawny fingers.
She didn’t know where to turn or to run. The awful sounds didn’t sound human, and those grabbing arms didn’t belong to a human being. She was being hit by mangled pieces of furniture, so she had to keep moving. Taking a deep breath, she charged down the dark hallway.
Her head hit something hard. She looked up to come face to face with a gruesome creature that had managed to push its enormous face through the concrete wall. Startled, she stopped dead in her tracks. Then she realized that it wasn’t even looking at her. Its long mouth was open wide, roaring without sound; its oblong head thrashed back and forth, struggling to break free from its confines. An anguished grimace seemed to be frozen into its misshapen
features. It turned to her. She gasped. It was facing her but
not seeing her; its eye sockets were dark, empty holes staring into the distance. Scrambling away from it, she felt cold hands in her hair and around her neck, grabbing at her from within the walls, touching her with their slimy fingers.
After freeing herself from the creatures, she ran into her son’s bedroom. A dark shadow was approaching Tim’s crib. A loud noise boomed from inside the room. She watched as the crib lifted into the air—with Tim huddled inside—and then crashed down hard against the wood floor. A huge crack traveled down the middle of the room, threatening to split the floor wide open. With Tim in her arms, she fled the crumbling room. Behind her, she heard the room rumble and quake. She turned to watch in horror as the bedroom folded into itself, crashing down to the floor below.
In the hall, she heard her husband’s shout and watched
him emerge from the thick darkness with their seven-year-old daughter, Serena, clasped against his chest.

While she was fleeing for her life, Diane thought back to happier times at End House—at the beginning.
At first sight the house had seemed to be just another
dark, run-down mansion left to decay into the ocean. However, after her initial visit Diane had already known that this house was special.
To visit End House was like visiting a page from the past: a joyous time of grand parties and luxurious lifestyles. An elegant staircase swept upward past marble pillars, cradling intricate statues of gargoyles.
The house was fit for a prince or a princess, which was how Diane had felt in her new home. The parlor was complete with elaborate moldings and a marble fireplace. It wasn’t furnished—none of the rooms were—but its past elegance was still apparent. An enormous crystal chandelier hung in the grand ballroom, filling the room with sparkling rainbows of light. The white marble staircase in the main hall had been her favorite part of the house, complete with opulent red carpeting running down its center. Descending these stairs had made her feel like an actress in a classic movie.
After the massive construction that she and her husband had conducted on the mansion over the past year, End House appeared beautiful once again. The spacious rooms had been repainted and modernized.  Red rose bushes and a thick forest of tall trees had been planted around the outdoor pool. The indoor pool had been updated with a sauna and Jacuzzi in a white-tiled room.
About two months ago, the mood of the house had turned malevolent. The staircase had flattened itself out during her descent, causing her to fly down their steep slope. Each day afterward brought with it another evil prank against her family.
In the middle of the night, she would often find herself
roaming through the wooded grounds—without any memory of how she’d gotten there. As she passed through doorways, she never knew which room she would be stepping into, since the rooms often switched locations. Once she’d walked into her daughter’s bedroom and had found herself in a flamboyant boudoir, furnished in red with ornate tables and brocade draperies from a long-gone era.
Yesterday her husband had entered their bedroom and had become lost in a field of daisies. It would have been a pleasant experience for him—if the daisies hadn’t transformed themselves into man-eating plants with long, sharp teeth. She’d found him running through the house, shrieking about killer daisies chasing after him. If she hadn’t been so afraid she would have found it funny, but nothing was ever funny about the house’s long list of evil pranks.
After his heart-stopping experience, John had agreed that it was time for them to pack up their belongings and leave their home.
