Silence follows on gossamer wings

to quiet uneasy heartbeats,

to soothe the roaming beasts.

to bring a dark veil on activities,

to unfurl the roaring waves.

Silence is here

and so is the night.

You’re standing in a pool of water

in the basement of the deserted house.

A party without a host or guests.

The door behind you locks.

The only way is forward.

Cages with sharp edges

descend from the ceiling.

Circular saws follow.

Run for your life!

Shades of red fall from the sky,

They hit the ground in puddles of crimson.

Red falls from the darkening sky.

It covers the grass with its bright hue.

My face burns hot from its touch

as blood pumps faster through my heart.

The creatures track my desperate retreat

through the deserted woods.

I will be one with them all too soon.

I think back to times gone by,

when I could still soar and fly.

I took life by its horns.

I knew not of the thorns.

Love hit quickly in a heartbeat.

I jumped in too fast with both feet.

Our love burned bright and hot,

But soon he loved me not.

Hurt, I married another.

Why do I even bother?

Such feelings serve no  purpose

than allow past thoughts resurface.

Does he think of me sometimes?

I still do, at these sad times.
