DARKNESS, MY OLD FRIEND
“Why is it so dark down here?”
Timmy asks.
“The light bulb must have gone out,”
his father replies.
The steps creak as they descend.
The darkness envelopes them.
It holds them close.
In a lover’s embrace.
“Hello darkness, my old friend,”
the father calls out.
The darkness brings them closer.
Closer to its heart.
The trio fall asleep in its grasp.
A long sleep.
A sleep of the dead.
“Goodbye darkness, my old friend.”
