YELLOW NIGHTMARE

Sunflowers face off.
They’ve come alive.
Invade my dreams.
Star in my nightmares.
Green arms to strike.
Yellow faces too grim.
A field behind each.
Ready for the battle ahead.

FACES TO THE SKY

1 Faces to the sky

Faces to the sky.
Lift them way up high.
Smiles so bright and wide.
You’ve nothing to hide.
Yellow hair to the sun.
It’s time to have some fun.
Long, green leaves clap to the song.
This morning, nothing is wrong.
Deep roots rumble in the ground.
To a beat, you’ve lost and found.
A field of dancers shakes the earth.
I watch as I bubble with mirth.

THEY HAUNT ME

THEY HAUNT ME

I wake up at night
And see sunflowers.
They chase me through
The house during the day.
They haunt me.

Are they real?
They have evil faces,
Leering grins,
And arms reaching for me.
They haunt me.

I must pack my bags.
I must leave this house.
And leave the sunflowers behind
To torment someone else.
They haunt me.

LOST IN OASIS

The cold cuts through me.
My nightgown thin protection.
The dark my sworn enemy.
How am I here?
On the ground of the estate,
roaming the night.

Tall flowers looming in front of me.
Silly grins on their dark faces.
Reaching for me with stick arms.
Still and silent at day.
Stalkers by night.

Let me go.
Back to my warm bed.
To the time before nightmares.
To the time before The Dead.

I want to dream of parties.

Picnics by the shore.
A sun-drenched paradise of white sand.
A safe haven for residents.

What has happened to my safe haven?
The dark has taken over my poor town.
No more parties.
No more picnics.
Only deadly games.

Check and mate.
The Dead are here to stay.
