TOUCH THE RAINBOW

TOUCH THE RAINBOW

I take the winding path shaded in red
instead of hiding in my comfy bed.

The road widens and narrows its scope
as it weaves away from any hope.

Blood red threatens the night sky
as laughter follows me high.

Rivers of crimson red coat my tired feet
as I walk the road of shame and defeat.

Why cannot life take the high road?
I ask if I may be so bold.

Ahead I see a bright light
as I rise with all my might.

I run toward the rainbow in my mind
in the colors and hues, I hope to find.

THE DEAD LOVE TO PLAY

Trees line the deserted sidewalk,
their leaves in vibrant hues,
hiding the chirping birds from sight.
Where are the people?
Why are the stores shuttered?
What secrets are we not being told?
Should we leave this town,
or wait for nightfall?
For then, we’ve been told,
the town of Oasis lets loose.
The original residents will
come down from their hill.
Will we see the famous dark shadows
swoop down upon the town?
Do we want to see them?
Be careful what you wish for.
For The Dead love to play.

COLORFUL LIGHTS

Up in the night sky

Colors float so high.

Raining down in hues

Of red, white, and blue.

Victory is our day.

We are all out to play.

Music and marching bands.

Raise up our clapping hands.

Celebrate the 4th of July.

Let the colorful lights fly high.

FACELESS

What are we without our faces?
Without our distinctive features.
No eyes to see the morning sun.
No mouth to sing a lullaby.
No nose to smell baking cookies.
We would be mere strokes of color.
A dripping rainbow of hues.
