SCARED TO DEATH

They come in the night.
Take all with their might.
A town scared to death.
From their deadly breath.
I watch the town fall.
Come one and come all.

A WARNING

“I told you not to go into the house,
that no good was going to come of it.
‘A surprise party,’ you said.
Did you find a host or guests?
No. You found a deserted house.
Some traps and bloody saws.
A fireplace with falling limbs.
Have you had enough?
Yes? I thought so.
Now find your way out.”
The black bird flew away
with a wide grin on its dark face.

EYES TO THE WIND

The raven waits.
Sitting on its perch.
Eagle eyes to the wind.
Who is he waiting for?
Will he know when he sees it?
Wait.
His wings are spreading out.
About to take flight.
He lets out a screech.
He’s looking…
He’s looking at me.
Time to go.
