LAST DAY OF THE #RRBC AUTHOR SPOTLIGHT BLOG TOUR

Thank you, Bernard Foong, for sharing my blog tour today.

RAVE REVIEWS BOOK CLUB’S “SPOTLIGHT” Author Blog Tour! “SPOTLIGHT” Author, Susanne Leist! @SusanneLeist #RRBC #RRBCSA

The Dead at Heart by Susanne Leist

MY NEXT BOOK

My fourth book is underway. A seaside town in Maine provides the backdrop for murder, mystery, and romance. Love falters and flourishes as the residents fight the persistent evil plaguing their small-town lives.

Elizabeth and Scarlett travel to Maine, leaving life in New York City behind. Their desire to run a bed-and-breakfast brings them to Blue Harbor. Little do they know, but the paranormal waits to fill their plates with the unsavory, metallic smell of blood. As bodies drop, they must choose between remaining or fleeing the horrific screams shattering the quiet community.

As they make their decision, Elizabeth and Scarlett rent an apartment near the harbor. Their landlord, Lauren, a flashy redhead, knows more than she reveals. When Lauren escorts them to the local ice cream shop, the illusion of candy land is disrupted by a man who charges through the door and dies in a pool of blood.

The two men, who Lauren had introduced to them, play a vital role in the town’s underbelly of secrets. Are David and Jordan what they appear, or are master-manipulators? Join Elizabeth and Scarlett as they are thrust into a chain of events where there’s no escape.

AUTHOR BIO:

I have always loved to read. Agatha Christie, Alistair Maclean, Robert Ludlum, and other authors filled my young imagination with intrigue and mystery. When I wasn’t reading late into the night, the TV shows such as Murder She Wrote and Columbo, entertained me with murder and suspense tales.

Over the years, my taste in TV expanded to include such shows as Supernatural and The Originals. I searched for paranormal, murder mysteries, but found few at the library or bookstore. So, I wrote one.

The Dead Game, Book One of The Dead Game series, brings fantasy and surrealism to the classic murder mystery with dead bodies, suspects, and clues. It offers vampires, vampire derivatives, and a touch of romance to spice the motley mix.

The story continues in Book Two, Prey for The Dead, as The Dead vampires use an exclusive club in Disney World to infiltrate the rich and famous. As The Dead grows in power, not even the bright sunshine of Florida can weaken them. Linda and her friends join forces with human vampires–known as hybrids–to defeat the evil threatening to control Oasis. A masquerade ball and a romp through the tunnels beneath the town lead to a showdown in southern Florida’s swamps.

The Dead At Heart is Shana’s love story. Will her love for William strengthen, or will Sam lead her on a different path? At Chateau Frontenac in Quebec, Shana and her fearless friends fight for Oasis and their lives.

A career in writing has been a giant leap for me. Accustomed to the number-crunching field of budgeting and the hectic commodity markets, I left my first career and M.B.A. in Finance behind to pursue my dream. I do not regret my foray into literature for one moment. Fellow authors helped me make my way through the competitive field. I write every day and even tried my hand at poetry. If someone tells you it’s too late in life to try something different, they are wrong. It is never too late to follow your heart.

The Dead at Heart by Susanne Leist

THE DEAD AT HEART

William’s bite bonded Shana to him, but he didn’t ask her to mate with him for life. She isn’t ready for a lifetime commitment. Now, William excludes her from his vampire meetings. Shana understands he’s an original vampire with immense powers. For them to be a couple, he has to treat as an equal partner. If William doesn’t respect her, then what are their chances of finding happiness?

Shana speaks to Linda, her best friend, of her fears.

“Paradise is an illusion.” Shana’s face grows heated as her frustration mounts. “Oasis is a haven for vampires. I’m tired of their battles. The Watchers get rid of an evil group of vamps, and another group arrives and attacks. It’s a vicious cycle. Vampires are trouble.”

“We will have a happy ending.” Linda lifts her head. “Don’t lose faith. The Watchers will protect us, and Gregg has an elite force of original vampires.” She touches Shana’s arm. “William loves you; he won’t let something happen to you.”

“The vampires keep secrets from us.” Shana swallows the lump in her throat. “I don’t want to live with vamps anymore, and I need time to decide on my relationship with William. One minute, I’m suffocating, and then the next, I’m lost without him.”

As a new enemy descends on Oasis, Florida, Shana turns to Sheriff Sam, who broke her heart. Can she trust the human-vampire?

This begins Shana’s journey to fight vampires and werewolves with Sam at her side.

An explosion at Chateau Frontenac in Quebec doesn’t stop Shana and her friends from saving their town, and maybe even the world.

DAY 5 #RRBC SPOTLIGHT AUTHOR BLOG TOUR

Thank you, Charles W Jones, for hosting my blog tour today.

Today, I welcome Susanne Leist, the RRBC Spotlight Author for September 2020.

HE HAS COME FOR ME – WRITTEN FOR PREY FOR THE DEAD

(Note about the poem from Susanne Leist.) Poetry began as a way to promote my books. Now, it is one of my passions. This poem describes Wolf’s love for Linda, a vampire who loves a human.

HE HAS COME FOR ME

He has come for me.
I’ll never be free.
He comes at night,
Fear at first sight.

He claims his love,
But he’s no dove.
He’s evil as can be,
Always searching for me.

I must hide until morning,
Or the town will be mourning.
The devil hides his face.
I know his deadly pace.

His footsteps ring hollow.
Steps quicken to follow.
He sings a sweet song.
I know I’m not wrong.

The devil is right behind me,
Even though his face, I can’t see.
He has me in his grasp.
I cry out with a gasp.

He kisses me with passion.
I know this is his fashion
To take what is not his
And make me into his.

AUTHOR SPOTLIGHT DAY 2

Thank you, JOY NWOSU LO-BAMIJOKO, for hosting my blog tour today.

AUTHOR SUSANNE LEIST IS OUR RAVE REVIEWS BOOK CLUB’S “SPOTLIGHT” Author!

It is my pleasure to welcome Susanne Leist on my blog today.

BLOG POST:

MY ADVICE FOR NEW AUTHORS
The best advice to a new author is to have everything in place before your book is published. Blogs and online accounts must be opened and ready for business. The book’s publication shouldn’t be a surprise to anyone but an anticipated event. I learned the painful way from experience.
Outskirts Press, a self-publishing company, sent an email stating my book was published on Amazon and Barnes & Noble with no prior warning. I hurried to check my Amazon page. The Dead Game sat on a blank page with no book or author description, the same for B & N. I raced against the clock to write a summary and author bio. It was months before I was able to sit back and take a breath. After that earth-shattering day in September, I decided never to leave myself unprepared.
My learning process evolves daily; there’s no rest for the weary author. My earliest posts appeared on Twitter, Facebook, and Google. Since then, I’ve added sites to my repertoire, including Pinterest, Instagram, and author groups. The author sites I’ve found most useful are Rave Reviews Book Club, All Author, and Authors Den. I opened blogs on Tumblr, BlogSpot, and WordPress blogs. In the beginning, I wrote poetry for my blogs and tweets as a way to market my books. Over time, poetry has evolved from a mere tool to one of my favorite passions.
A website is another essential marketing tool for authors. It should serve as the central hub for an author’s books. Mine hasn’t achieved its goal yet since I chose WIX, which is hard to use. It’s crucial to pick a user-friendly website. Newsletters are also essential to an author’s survival as a way to keep in touch with readers.
The most useful advice I can offer an author is to do your research and be prepared. You must keep writing and never doubt yourself.

AN EXCERPT FROM THE DEAD AT HEART

Shana is left behind in a house filled with vampires after her best friend, Linda, is snatched by werewolves. Can Shana find love with a vampire, or are her relationship and Oasis doomed from the start?
As the howls echoed louder, Shana jumped. "Are the animals in the house?"
"How can that be?" Linda clutched Shana's arm. "Where are the guards?"
A black form lunged at them.
She grabbed Linda's as they raced from the room. The enormous beast blocked their path to the stairs. In the darkness, yellow eyes glared at them. They dodged the multiplying animals and climbed the steps as high-pitched cries resonated through the house.
"Hurry." Dragging Linda behind her, Shana rushed to Linda's suite and bolted the door behind them.
"I didn't know the wolves are so huge." Linda gulped her words between frantic breaths as she leaned against the door. When the animals lunged at the door, Linda jumped back. "If they break through the door," her voice trembled, "they'll tear us apart. I thought the vamps could protect us." She slid against the wall to the floor.
Shana raced to the window. Shadows darted back and forth across the backyard. A few forms lay lifeless on the grass. "Men and wolves are fighting. There's nowhere for us to run." Her gaze flew to the door as it cracked from the force of the wolves' bodies. She spun to Linda. "The wolves have us surrounded. We can't escape them."
Linda ran to the window and pointed. "Wait. Is that William?"
A tall figure marched across the lawn. Shana recognized the confident stride as he approached a melee of men and wolves rolling on the grass. At his shout, the animals raised their heads and scampered away. "William chased the wolves away. How did he do that?"
"The wolves might have recognized him as an original."
Chills raced through Shana's body as she asked, "Aren't Gregg and many of his vampires, originals?"
A loud noise made them turn. The door burst open, and the animals slunk into the room, backing them against the window. Growls and snarls melded into a cacophony of horror in Shana's head. They filled the room, saliva dripping from gaping jaws, moonlight glinting against pointy teeth. Head canted to the side, one appeared taller and broader. It stepped forward on hind legs and watched them through slanted yellow eyes. His peers, the ones standing upright, gathered around him.
Linda crouched beside her. "What do we do?"
"We fight." Shana's heart raced as her gaze darted around the room, searching for a weapon.
"They appear almost human." Linda pointed at the tallest one. "It's as if he wants to speak to us."
"Not he. It," Shana yelled. She needed a weapon—an umbrella. There was one beside her bed.
"We've faced monsters. We kill or are killed."
A whistle pierced the silence.
The wolves charged.
Growls faded to silence as Shana spun to Linda.
The wolves vanished, and so had Linda.

A small town on the coast of Florida offers tourists white-sanded beaches, blue skies, and an opportunity to vacation with the elite of society. Too bad the rich and famous include creatures of the night. How did this happen, you might ask?
While vampires inhabit every country in the world, they blend peacefully with humanity. In Oasis, Florida, the human inhabitants have no idea vampires or hybrids, which are a part vampire/ part human mix, live in their midst.
In recent years, the world’s vamp population has been threatened by a rogue group of vampires with bloodlust running through their veins. THE DEAD have infiltrated the vamps of Oasis and wrestle for control. They want to rule the world.
Linda, her best friend, Shana, and their group of young friends learn of THE DEAD. They join forces with the vampires and hybrids of Oasis. They travel undercover to an exclusive club in Disney World with the two hybrids, Todd and Sam, to locate THE DEAD’s base of operations.
Why did I choose THE CLUB at Disney World for the vampires’ base? Is there such a club in Disney where its members are the elite of society?
Yes. There is. It’s called CLUB 33. Walt Disney created the club in Disneyland in the New Orleans’ section. It sits behind a door with the number 33. A door that resembles all other doors on the quaint streets. If you are lucky enough to be invited by a member, you will walk through the doorway to an elegant entranceway. The hosts will greet you and take you to one of the parlors, where you may peruse the showcases of Walt Disney’s favorite things. Maybe Mary Poppins’ umbrella or a speaking parrot sitting above a clock. The adventure continues in the dining room, where toots of steamboats provide the aura of being in New Orleans.

You can climb the staircase or use the old elevator.

Disney 33

Visit the showcases of Disney memorabilia.

Once I read of Club 33, a club that is forbidden to me, I became obsessed with knowing more. The more I learned, the more I wanted to give it to my vampires. I used the images in my mind of CLUB 33 in Disneyland to create THE CLUB in Disney World. And wait until you see what they do to The Club. You will never look at Disney World the same way again.
And guess what? I read this year CLUB 33 will open in Disney World. Too bad. I had my club first or what’s left of it.

LOVE THE REVIEW!

1 Book Black background

June 22, 2019
This book is well written and does not hesitate to jump right into the action and excitement before dropping the first cliffhanger leaving you wanting more. One thing I like about this book is that it incorporates vampires, vampire hunters, and vampires helping vampire hunters which is an interesting twist making this masterpiece one of the best books on this subject. I would think Hollywood producers should be thinking about turning this book into a movie followed by a television series. Definitely written by a great author!
