ODE TO MY BOOK

Nothing can be as fine

As the dear book of mine.

It might not be sold in a big bookstore,

But you will not find one to offer more.

It was created with much love and hope,

Even though it wasn't blessed by a Pope.

It has my blood, sweat, and tears.

Might raise many of your fears.

It has action, murder, and romance.

I can even do a little dance.

Please try it and you'll see

It has the best of me.

INVISIBLE

Do you ever feel invisible?
That no one is listening to you
or remembers that you exist.
We all feel that way at times.
Just join the invisible crowd.

Do you feel invisible?
No one is listening to you.
No one remembers you exist.
At times, we all feel this way.
Join the invisible crowd.

THE EVIL STAIRCASE

No one answers our knock.
The front door drifts open.
I step into the dark hallway.
My friends close behind.
A dark staircase looms above us.
Gargoyles stand guard along its banisters.
Lights flicker from the right hallway.
A cold draft hits our left shoulders.
What should we do?
Read The Dead Game to find out.

SAVE ME

Trapped in my own hell.
One small window to the world.
Trapped in my own mind.
Eyes searching for the truth.
Trapped in my own despair.
Sadness my only friend.
Trapped like this forever.
With no one to save me.

FOOTSTEPS

“Institute Benjamenta” (1995)

Has he come for me?
I hear his footsteps.
The leaves stop rustling.
The wind stops blowing.
The silence is overpowering.
A stranglehold on my nerves.
Is he standing outside the door?
Waiting for me to open it.
I won’t.
I won’t let him in.
He wants me.
I refuse to become one of them.

LIFE IS BEAUTIFUL

life is beautiful

Life is beautiful.
Look around.
There’s beauty everywhere.
In every flower.
In each blade of grass.
And in each and every insect.
Too much to take in at a glance.
But no one bothers to notice.
Birds.
Flowers.
Ocean.
Fish.
Clouds.
Sun.
All around us.
See the beauty.
Take in the beauty.
Appreciate the beauty.

TO BE OR NOT TO BE

book flames

To be or not to be a writer
has been the hardest question for me.
Should I continue with my pursuit,
or step away and claim defeat?
One book was written,
one book sold.
It dances around on Amazon and Nook.
It reaches new heights in its niche,
and then it slowly bows its head in silence.
The highs feel good and lofty,
While the lows feel depressing and sad.
Is it worth it?
Is it worth the aggravation?
I am told that a writer must keep writing.
More books to dance around.
More highs and lows.
Should I keep doing this?
Will I keep doing this?
Yes, for now
as I wait for the next high.

STOP TO SMELL THE FLOWERS

Autumn Fence, Woodstock, Vermont

A walk down a country road,
not knowing what it may hold.
Leaves crunch loudly beneath my feet,
walking fast is no easy feat.
I need to get home to make dinner,
I’d hoped the walk would make me thinner.
But I need to slow down and breath the air,
as sweet as cotton candy at a fair.
My steps follow the white picket fence,
the other side makes me cold and tense.
The huge dog jumps high in the air,
his eyes white dots in his black hair.
He whimpers and walks closer to me,
his dark eyes as wide as can be.
He lifts a large paw to the gate,
as I slow down my frenzied gait.
I stop in place to pet his head,
I know I have just made my bed.
I will now be home late for dinner,
but the dog knows I’m still the winner.
I have stopped to smell the flowers,
I’m refreshed with super powers.
I race home with new resolve,
no more time puzzles to solve.

WALK ALONE

I walk alone at night
when the moon is full height.
The sky black as tar,
but I won’t walk far.
I search for the shadow
on a road so narrow.
I want to see who he’s become;
The Dead leader, the evil one.
THE DEAD...

COMING FOR ME

I look out the window
and what do I see?
A storm growing in force
and coming for me.
Death comes to town.
It has its own name.
The one that I know
is called The Dead Game.

A midnight so dark and blue.

It’s coming for me and you.
The tides are rising to a new height,
While fighting the shore with all their might.
The clear skies are dark blue.
The clouds are far and few.
The darkness brings us shadows and fears,
And people running away in tears.
I’ve heard about The Dead.
They fill my heart with dread.
It’s time to hide from death.
No time to take a breath.

A HORROR TALE

Stay away from here.
Death I cannot bear.
I’m telling a horror tale
with each wag of my fine tail.
Oasis it is not.
More of a horror spot.
Tourists disappear
into the thin air.
One day they’re right here.
Next day they’re nowhere.
THE DEAD...

The perfect hotel of bliss.
Endless books to read.

All you need is a chair.
Never run out of a book.
Just pick your favorite nook.
Read the day away.
Nothing else to say.

SHY CEMETERY

A cemetery so shy
the dead and gone pass it by.
The graves hide in shame
from its silly name.
No mausoleums to grace it,
or fine tombstones to enhance it.
Please stay away from here.
The dead don’t want you near.

DUST IN THE WIND

To be alone.
Under a tree.
In a garden.
No people.
No sounds.
Only the birds chirping.
The smell of the grass.
The heat of the sun.
What is that sound?
Oh, the wind rustling the leaves.
How beautiful.
How relaxing.
How perfect.
Oh no.
I hear more sounds.
It’s turning dark.
The sun has retreated.
Someone is coming.
I can’t see who it is.
It can’t be.
I’m dust in the wind.

LET ME OUT

End House holds secrets.
It holds living beings in its walls.
Creatures dying to get out.
Screaming without sound.
Pushing their arms and legs
through the walls,
hoping to escape.
But there’s no escape.
The guests of the party will
soon discover the sad truth.
No one leaves the house
without resulting consequences.
And some may not leave at all.
Who will live?
Who will die?
Only The Dead know.

THE DEEP

Cover me with your cold arms,
A baby blanket of softness.
Take me down under your waves,
Where the world glows a bluish green.
Life swirls by in colors of the rainbow,
Filled with creatures swimming free.
A harmony of rhythmic movement,
Following the slow tempo of the deep.
