FOOTSTEPS IN THE DARK

FOOTSTEPS IN THE DARK

The town’s residents are all asleep.
My sleep is usually sound and deep.
But I hear footsteps to a stomping beat.
In the quiet town this is no great feat.

The Dead are now coming for us.
I should’ve left on the last bus.
Now I’m a goner lying here,
Waiting for the end to come near.

The house lights have gone out.
I want to scream and shout.
But fear has closed my throat.
I’m bleating like a goat.

I see a shadow by my door.
I do know what it is here for.
The sun has ceased to shine.
It’s come for me and mine.
