THE DEAD CONTROL TIME

THE DEAD CONTROL TIME

The Dead have taken over.
It’s now time to take cover.
No one can hear
Our screams of fear.

When the clock strikes midnight
We prepare to take flight.
The elders can’t save us anymore.
Very soon blood and guts will pour.

Our paradise is no more.
There’s nothing left to live for.
Unless we stand up and fight
With all our hearts and might.

THE DEAD GAME

5 Star Review of THE DEAD GAME

Creative, refreshing and chilling
on March 25, 2015
Format: Kindle Edition
Susanne Leist’s The Dead Game had my reading intently and wide eyed, often forgetting to blink due to the eagerness to find out what happens next. The plot keeps you involved with each character as they all had a key role to play in the story. It is unnerving, mysterious yet still shares the perspective of multiple characters to give you an understanding of their point of views, even though Linda and Todd are the primary focus.

Susanne puts a creative spin on vampires which gave the book a refreshing aspect to the supernatural/dark fantasy genre. I particularly enjoyed the setting of the small town, providing an eerie vibe throughout the story while keeping a fine balance of fright, action and romance. The range of genres intertwined the book is well woven, keeping the story arch at a good pace and easy to follow.

I would recommend anyone that is a fan of paranormal romances / dark fantasy novels to pick up a copy of Susanne Leist’s debut novel, The Dead Game, and get lost in this mysterious horror novel.

SILENT

SILENT

Can you hear the silence?
It moves.
Like a breathing, living being.
Deeper into the woods,
The silence moves with me.
By my side.
Watching me.
Waiting for any sound
I might make.
For then,
It could silence me.
Forever.

OVERGROWN

OVERGROWN

A house left to decay.
What a sad sight today.
No family in sight.
I gaze at it in fright.

Trees and bushes overgrown.
A darkness sets the sad tone.
Hedges block the sunlight.
Nothing lets in the light.

I can hear the creak of old bones.
The house settles with moans and groans.
It looks at me with mournful eyes.
I will buy it and take the prize.

FLY HIGH

What does it feel like to fly?
Lifting off to reach the sky.
Soaring to a new height.
A bird's exclusive right.

All alone and way up high.
Nary a cloud in the sky.
Take me along with you please.
What can I do to appease?

I want to fly over the land.
To the tune of a marching band.
Over water I go.
It would make a great show.

5 Star Review of THE DEAD GAME

ATMOSPHERIC AND GRIPPING

on March 27, 2015

Format: Kindle Edition

The story is set in the small town of Oasis, and in particular End House, a huge, deserted, evil mansion, itself a malevolent spirit, maliciously absorbing and devouring all intruders into its entrails. Linda is the central character, moving to the town and having to confront its horrors, with dead bodies and disappearing visitors. What is the nature of this evil house, which in itself seems a gigantic monster with tentacles and creatures springing and spewing out of its depths? Will Linda and her friends survive and get to the bottom of the mystery and terror? A gripping, atmospheric, scary tale, graphically written. I was hooked from the beginning. Check it out, if you dare.

THE HUNT

sex-blood-and-death:

THE HUNT

It first comes slowly.
In the dead of night.
Walking on silent feet.
It draws closer.
You run faster.
It speeds up.
You dash into a building.
An empty school.
It soon follows.
It brings with it a silence.
You can feel its presence.
Coming closer.
It’s now moving quickly.
Down the deserted hallway.
You check the doors.
They are all locked.
You turn.
Close your eyes.
And stand strong.
Darkness descends.
To encompass all.

DARKNESS IS YOUR ONLY FRIEND

  1. DARKNESS IS YOUR ONLY FRIEND

    A room full of books.
You can feel them with your fingertips.
But you can’t see a single word.
    Your senses are sensitized.
    Every single noise is amplified.
    But you can’t see light.
    Or colors.
    You are blind.
In a world full of color.
    Your fingertips lead you.
    Your senses guide you.
    Darkness is your only friend.

THE DESERTED MANSION

THE DESERTED MANSION

A mansion so dreary,
One should be leery
Of entering its gate.
Better leave it to fate.

The mansion in Oasis
Offers too many faces
For unexpected visitors.
But be careful of any tours.

If you venture inside
You can see the sweet pride
In the owner’s eyes.
Despite the bird’s cries.

Each room offers a view
Of history for you.
Beautifully furnished rooms.
Swept clean by invisible brooms.

“Who lives in here?” you might ask.
If you dare take him to task.
“Only I,” he might reply
With a twinkle in his eye.

TURNED TO STONE

enyaja:

TURNED TO STONE

I have turned to stone.

I’m chilled to the bone.

The coldness is spreading.

Where can this be heading?

Please help me.

You can see.

Life is at its end.

I can’t even bend.

Who’s my deadly foe?

I still need to know.

Leave me be.

You shouldn’t see

What I’ve become.

Leave and be gone.

THE DEAD ARE COMING TO TOWN

THE DEAD ARE COMING TO TOWN

Do not come near.
I can see clear
The evil coming to town.
What is with the big frown?

You must leave right away.
The Dead have come to stay.
No one will be left alive.
A death for all who arrive.

Blood will rule the day.
Leave, you cannot stay
In a town slated for death.
Do not stop to take a breath.

Run now like the wind to safety.
Make sure your retreat is hasty.
I have come to warn you.
They will come for you.

FIRES OF HELL

FIRES OF HELL

A hot sight to see.
Now part of the sea.
Gone the lush paradise
By a toss of the dice.

The flames come ashore.
The town is no more.
We flee in despair.
Single or in pair.

Low and behold our loss.
Ground that will grow no moss.
Now grass brown and brittle.
Where there once was thistle.

END HOUSE

END HOUSE

A house so dark and bleak
That I can’t even speak.
Dark shadows glare at me
Where clear windows should be.

Do I dare venture inside?
I’ll have to swallow my pride.
And quietly cross the threshold
Without being so rash and bold.

There’s a secret party inside.
I wonder if I should run or hide.
Who’s the host of this feast,
Man or dangerous beast?

LET'S PLAY A GAME

lifeisthefight: For Ava ❤

LET’S PLAY A GAME
Play the game of The Dead.
It will fill you with dread.
They come in the dead of night.
Before you had a chance to fight.

Do not walk the streets too late.
You’ll be dinner on their plate.
Games, The Dead love to play.
You’ll be the ones to pay.

Come one, come all.
To the town hall.
Demons will strike
With all their might.

Bats will fill the skies
With high shrieking cries.
The end is coming near
For the town we hold dear.

A HEART SO PURE

A HEART SO PURE

Only a heart so pure
Can be so clear and sure
Of a life worth living
And a love worth giving.

Look up at the sky
And please do not cry
When you see my heart
Since we’ve grown apart.

I will always love you
And live my life for you.
Until the end of time
You will always be mine.

THE DEAD GAME

THE DEAD GAME

Why do clowns appear
And then come so near?
In my nightmares they cavort
With one another for sport.

I’m afraid to lay my head down.
For I might see another clown.
With their evil grins.
And quivering chins.

The carnival they roam.
So I’m writing this tome.
To leave clues to my demise
If the clowns aren’t too nice.

In a town such as Oasis.
There are few friendly faces.
For the clowns haunt my nights.
And bring with them more frights.

DID I DO THAT?

An ordinary day.
When I went out to play.
Into the cold snow I went.
And I refuse to repent.

It was so quiet.
Before the riot.
A lot of screaming.
With people teaming.

I will leave now.
And take my bow.
Before I am seen.
I’m leaving the scene.

WAITING

As still as stone.
Standing so quiet.
Chilled to the bone.
On auto pilot.

I can see your reflection.
So pensive and worried.
Facing the one direction.
And not at all hurried.

Don't be so sad and lonely.
For whom do you wait?
Is it your one and only?
We'll leave it to fate.

TRAPPED

TRAPPED

We’re trapped in a cave.
The bad Wolf had led.
Nothing but a knave
And the walking dead.

Bats circle our heads.
Still searching to land.
We have made our beds.
Please give us a hand.

Why did we come here?
This den of darkness.
Better stay far and clear.
Our plight is hopeless.

Our town is doomed.
We should have fled
When evil loomed
And reared its head.

Goodbye to all.
The walking dead are here.
The town will fall.
Unless we fight our fear.

LIFE IN A BALL

Life in a ball.
A tiny capsule of life.
Where we may fall.
And then rise again from strife.

Life can be short.
It can easily stop.
It may be sport
To some of us or not.

Take advantage of it.
Ride the choppy wave.
Live life to the fullest.
And be worthy of a save.

The bouncing ball could be yours.
Take hold of the ride.
It departs on many tours.
Take care not to hide.

THE SMELL OF A BOOKSTORE

The smell of a bookstore.
The enticing aroma.
It draws me inside.
Pulling me into its embrace.

Shelf after shelf of books.
Books that have one purpose.
To keep their words safe.
For someone, like me, to enjoy.

Sunlight streams in.
Highlighting the dust mites in the air.
I reach for a book.
Is this the best one for me?

Pages are rustling in the next aisle.
Other people are lost in their books.
Maybe I don't need to pick just one.
Endless possibilities.

History, mystery, cooking,
Oh my!
What to choose?
Do I need to choose?

I feel like skipping down the block.
I leave the store with bags of books.
Eager to read them.
Eager to learn for them.
Life is good today.

THE DEAD GAME

whitechapelwitch:
THE DEAD GAME
I can hear the wind.
I do know the lore.
I open the gate.
I can hear no more.

Sounds become muffled.
They become distant.
The space is bleak
And indifferent.

The sky turns dark.
The grass is dead.
I want to flee.
I’m full of dread.

The birds are gone.
And I should now go.
The gate slams shut
Before I can go.

Should I go forward?
Or should I go back?
My plea is answered.
A push on my back.

The wind pushes me forward.
Not what I’ve been taught.
Where nothing is blooming.
And all is but naught.

The house stands before me.
In its utter disgrace.
Dark windows call to me.
Evil grins on their face.

I move forward in silence.
All ready to embrace.
Whatever hell has for me
In my utter disgrace.

LAMENT FOR THE DEAD

A paradise is now lost and gone,
Never to be found again.
Whomever the demons come upon,
No more peace but only pain.

Like a cold witches' brew.
An Oasis for all.
Now a hell for the few,
Who remain to tell all.

Warm winds turn cold
As all become prey.
The young and old.
For them we must pray.

Hell hath no fury
Like a demon scorned.
There is no jury
For a small town mourned.

Who'll save Oasis
From 'The Dead' demons?
Who will now face us,
More dead or demons?

Pray for us.
We are alone
Come save us.
We must atone.
