FOLLOW THE CANDLES

Follow the candles
to where they may lead you.
Down the dark corridor you walk.
Expecting a monster at every corner.
No one appears.
No sounds to break the dead quiet.
Down the corridor you go.
Waiting for something or someone.
But all you see is darkness
and more candles.
A door appears at the end.
It creaks open.
Do you really want to see what
is on the other side?
Human nature propels you forward.
Forward into the dark gloom.
What happens next?
The answer is hidden in the
inner recesses of your mind.
Follow your nightmare to its
bitter end.
Hurry before you wake up.
There’s no turning back now.

THE LONE WOLF

Howl at the moon young wolf.
Will anyone answer you?
Does anyone care?
Howls soon accompany
the lone sound.
Notes varying in tempo and pitch.
In tune together in their quest
to raise the moon.
The moon shines down upon them,
in acquiescence of their mournful sounds.
All is right with the world.
Life is in perfect harmony.

5 STAR REVIEW OF THE DEAD GAME

5 STAR REVIEW OF THE DEAD GAME

WHAT A GREAT REVIEW! THANK YOU

cover

An interesting and Gripping Story, September 16, 2014
Verified Purchase(What’s this?)
This review is from: The Dead Game (Kindle Edition)
An interesting and gripping story of good vampires, evil vampires, human vampires and human. The Dead Game keeps you guessing from beginning to end and you are always anticipating the next plot which never comes true. Susanne keeps you engaged through different characters who changes their colours beyond your imagination. Her description of the characters and situation is so good that you can virtually see them before your eyes like a movie.

A WALK DOWN THE ROAD

Let’s take a walk down the road.
A road that is bordered on
both sides by flowers.
A cobblestone road
leading down to the water.
Beautiful houses encircle the
lush mountains around us.
Keep following the steps.
All your dreams will soon come true.

A RADIANCE FROM WITHIN

Nature has its own beauty.
Its radiance comes from within.
Blossoming from a mere seed.
To give color and light to the world.

HOLD ON TIGHT!

Bolts of lightning light up the road.
We are nearing the eye of the storm.
Should we chase the storm?
Or should we give up and turn around?
We might never be given this chance again.
A chance to ride the storm.
Will we be thrown from our car?
Will we experience a rush of excitement?
Will animals and trees fly by us?
Let’s go!
We will never know unless we do it.
Hold on tight!

ALONE IN A CEMETERY

Would you walk alone in
a cemetery at night?
With the mist swaying
and the wind moaning.
Shadows appearing before you
and then behind you.
Are they leading you somewhere or
following in your hesitant footsteps?
A statue looms in the distance.
A very tall statue.
Taller than any of the
gravestones or mausoleums.
Now the statue is moving,
coming closer to me.
Time to run!
Walking in a graveyard at night
didn’t turn out to be such a good idea.
Ouch!
It scratched me!

THE CLOWN

blackoutraven:
PENNYWISE
Itzamna10
The hotel room is quiet.
The furniture looks shabby.
A dim light glows from a
small bed-side lamp.
The carpet is worn from
years of footsteps.
Then you hear a strange noise.
A high-pitched static sound.
A sound emanating from the old T.V. set.
The black and white screen appears to be on.
But you didn’t turn on the T.V.
when you entered the room.
A clown’s face appears on the screen.
He looks at you and says,
"Why are you here?
How dare you enter my room!
If you don’t leave right away,
I will just have to kill you.”
At first, you think this is silly
since he’s only an image on a screen.
But then his hand reaches out
through the screen.
His fingers have long red nails.
His body begins to emerge.
He’s here.
For you.
You are no longer alone.

DANCE WITH THE MOON

The moon brings out the best in us.
It reflects our inner thoughts and desires.
Some may howl at the moon,
while others are impelled to dance.
Dance until the sun rises.
Dance until your limbs grow tired.
Dance until you feel at peace.
At peace with the world.

HOUSE OF ILLUSIONS

The house is dark and deserted,
so what is it trying to tell us?
Why are objects
floating in the air?
Are ghosts holding them?
Are our minds being controlled
by some unknown force?
End House has its own powers.
Powers of persuasion and illusion.
Are cages falling from the ceiling?
Are those rotating saws?
We better run for our lives.
No time to wait and figure out
the puzzle before us.
THE DEAD love their games.

THE CREEPING LIQUID

Mysterious under-door seepages - “I Do” (1921)

The creeping liquid from my nightmares! It is now alive in my book, THE DEAD GAME!
Excerpt from THE DEAD GAME

They were racing down the staircase, carrying their children, eager to reach the front door. Diane stopped dead in her tracks. A dark red substance was oozing into the house from under the door, creeping across the floor, devouring everything in its wake. They watched as the huge circular rug and the large hall table disappeared into its thick slime. Extending its reach farther out, it made its way toward them.
Diane detected a high-pitched keening cry coming from within the slime. She backed herself into a corner. “It’s going to swallow us!”
“Run out the back!” John shouted above the children’s frightened sobbing. He pushed her ahead of him. “Don’t think! Just make sure you get out of this house and down the stairs to the beach. Or else you might be living here forever!”
They climbed through the destroyed kitchen, through detached pieces of ceiling, through broken pieces of cabinets and sharp shards from shattered dishes.
Once outside, they were struck by flying debris. The patio was engulfed in a strong wind, which lifted the furniture high into the air. The white wicker pieces crashed against each other, the broken pieces falling into the empty pool.
The pool had been filled already twice that season. The house had a mind of its own: it wanted the pool empty of water and her family gone; and it was making sure that it remained that way.
The red liquid was creeping out beneath the kitchen door, inching its way toward them. She screamed above the sound of the howling wind. “It’s getting closer! It’s followed us outside! WE ARE ALL DEAD!”
“We must escape now! Don’t look back! Just run!”
She gazed down the steep staircase to the rocky shore below, to the jagged rocks that were being beaten by the raging waves of the ocean. In her heart, she knew that their fate was not going to be much better.

NATURE'S WRATH

The sky turns from blue to black.
The waves rise up and bow
to the forces of nature.
Boats head to shore.
All in a hurry.
In a hurry to out race the storm.
The waves pound a furious beat.
Raindrops join in the chorus.
Thunder accompanies with its dark sound.
Pound, pound, pound.
Could we survive nature’s wrath?
Only time will tell.

I CAN SEE YOU

All is quiet.
Night is approaching.
I see humans in the distance.
And they have food.
I’m getting hungry.
There’s no hurry.
I’ll just get comfortable
and bide my time.
They will still be there
when I’m ready.
Lick, lick, lick.

This review is from: The Dead Game (Kindle Edition)
I bought two of this book; for my friend and daughter. The author was kind enough to send this kindle to me to read, and let me tell you it was such a wonderfully written book - it filled me with anticipation and wanting to read on and on. The Dead Game is a different kind of vampire book and even though I am not one to read about vampires, I have to admit, Susanne has changed my mind about perhaps reading another one; especially if she writes a series to this one. She describes her scenes well. The voices of her characters are well felt and by the end of the book I am feeling a bond with the character. I would highly recommend this book. I say, run as fast as you can and buy it. I have. I am not disappointed. I can hardly wait for the next one; that is if she does write one.

COME PLAY ME

The house sits empty.
Deserted for years.
Dust its sole visitor.
The grand piano waits for a voice.
Someone to play its keys.
One last song before
it’s too late.
Before its beauty is lost.
Before it joins the dust.
Come play me.

KEEP FLYING

I’m flying.
In my dreams,
I’m soaring through the sky.
Over hills and streams,
valleys and cities.
Never having to stop.
Flying for miles and miles.
Should I land?
Why would I?
I can keep flying forever.

THE DEAD GAME -- DAY 203

Chapter 36
At Linda’s apartment, Todd walked in first. Almost immediately his highly attuned senses picked up an unusual scent. It smelled of flowers and cinnamon. He stood still, trying to place the unique aroma. It somehow seemed familiar to him. Linda never wore fragrances and neither did Shana. He looked down the dark hall and wondered who had been in this apartment…or maybe still was? From the living room, he heard a woman’s voice. “Welcome! What took you so long?”
He had assumed that everyone was accounted for in town, but this woman didn’t live in town. Now he placed the scent. He strode into the living room. “You’re not really Hank’s daughter are you, Frances? Is that even your real name?”
“Very astute of you, even though you are a mere human vampire. My name is Maxell and I am Natalie’s granddaughter,” said the woman with hatred burning in her eyes. “You killed my grandmother and now I will return the favor and kill all of you.”
The woman was beautiful with her blonde hair and voluptuous figure, but underneath she was as cold as ice. Todd understood this.
“Natalie was one of The Dead before becoming a saint. Are you the same thing?” Linda asked as she watched the slinky blonde move gracefully around the room.
“No, silly human, I am not a saint but the last of The Dead in town. You’ve ruined all of our carefully laid out plans. We were waiting for Wolf and his gang to rid the world of unwanted vampires before we annihilated every last vampire, including all members of The Dead. I would then be ready to ascend to become La Santa Muerte, like my grandmother. We were to be the only true power on earth. Finally we would be free to be worshiped properly and fully by humans.”
Furious that they had another rogue vampire to deal with, Todd shouted at her, “You’re just another sniveling follower. The world will be a much better place with you gone.” He quickly turned to find a weapon, but by the time he turned back, Maxell and Linda had already disappeared together. The living room was empty.
He pulled out his cell phone and dialed the sheriff’s office.  As soon as Sam answered, he yelled into the phone, “Linda is gone! Natalie had a granddaughter who’d posed as Hank’s daughter. She is the last of The Dead. This Maxell woman has abducted Linda! We need to quickly rally the forces! Call everyone! We must find them before she harms Linda!”

HAYDEN'S HOUSE OF HORRORS

EXCERPT FROM THE DEAD GAME

Todd and Sam were apprehensive about visiting Hayden in his own home. But they were running out of choices.

Todd was hoping that Hayden was still around and hadn’t sneaked off into the night as he drove past the thick bushes and massive trees that outlined Hayden’s remote plot of land. He wasn’t too eager to face Hayden on his home turf. He glanced across at Sam, who seemed to be having his own doubts—judging by the amount of squirming he was doing in his seat. They drove up to the house that stood silently waiting for them.
A warm wind was rustling through the leaves of the tall trees that shrouded the bleak house. Low-hanging limbs swiped at their legs with their long, skinny fingers as they walked up the gravel path. The wind blew leaves in circles around their feet, trying to slow their ascent up the steep stairs. They crunched through the fallen leaves to reach the front door.
Todd couldn’t locate a bell, so he rapped loudly with his knuckles. There was no answer. The door began to drift open on its own. A long, dark hallway gradually came into view. Rare masterpieces lined both walls, starkly illuminated against the muted walls by bright spotlights suspended from high above.
The deafening silence felt alive and heavy—as if someone was there with them waiting, but not yet willing to reveal himself. A cold draft hit them. In the translucent stream of air, Todd could see shadowy forms fighting against each other, struggling to break free. “Are those vampires caught in the wind?” asked Todd, beginning to regret his decision to enter the house without sufficient back-up. “Did you notice those strange forms floating in the air?”
He continued, “I’ve never seen anything like that before.” Not hearing a response from Sam, he tried to downplay his concern a little. “It could have been just an elaborate illusion.”
When Sam still didn’t respond, Todd turned around and found him standing as still as a statue, eyeing the flow of air with fear in his eyes. “Sam? Are you still with me?” Sam didn’t answer or move a muscle.
Todd knew that he had to continue on with the search—with or without Sam. He called out Hayden’s name, his voice echoing down the empty corridor. Still no one answered.
He followed the faintly lit hallway until its end, where it opened onto a huge oval-shaped ballroom. He stood in the center of the room in the bright light cast by the enormous crystal chandelier. The light reflecting from the hanging crystals shot colorful prisms of light across the multitude of artwork all around him. Hundreds of statues by eminent artists were haphazardly scattered about the shiny marble floor; the walls were decorated with priceless paintings in massive frames.
He wandered through the ballroom and recognized Rembrandts, Picassos, and even Renoirs, filling every available space on the gilded walls. At the back of the room, he noticed a circular staircase with elaborate gold railings, leading up through the ceiling to the floor above.
“There are no other rooms on the main floor, so we might as well check upstairs.” Surprised to hear Sam’s voice, Todd spun around to find him standing right behind him. Todd slowly nodded his head in agreement, even though he suspected that this was what Hayden expected them to do next. It was almost if Hayden had put out a sign that read: “Stupid human vampires! Come up my staircase at your own risk!”
As soon as they began to climb the stairs, the air turned colder and more frigid.
     Now, let the games begin.

HOLD YOUR HEAD HIGH

Do you feel invisible?
People walk by you in the street,
and don’t bother to say hello.
They don’t bother to
acknowledge your existence.
Who are they to think
so highly of themselves?
Are they any better than you?
Have they discovered
the cure for cancer?
No.
But they think they’re better.
Just an illusion.
Just a misconception of themselves
and their self-worth.
Don’t allow them to put you down.
If you do, then you’re giving them
power they don’t deserve.
Don’t ignore them.
Don’t play their game.
Look them in the eye and force them
to acknowledge your existence.
Hold your head up high.

THE DEAD GAME -- DAY 202

Todd was having doubts about his relationship with Linda. Life wasn't always perfect in Oasis.

Todd was beginning to doubt the wisdom of his decision to include Linda into his dark life. He didn’t know if he should ever turn her into a human vampire. He feared the possibility that one day she might regret her choice, once she saw how her life had been turned upside down, and once she realized that she had to exist on the dark side with no turning back.
Human vampires had to be extremely careful in order to fit in well with the rest of society—without allowing anyone to dig up their dark secrets. They lived in their own little society—separate from the rest of the world, without truly fitting in with vampires or humans. It was a hard secret to carry around every day. He’d had to carry this secret for years with only the elders and the other human vampires knowing his bitter truth.
Even though he wasn’t a full vampire, the temptation to drink blood was always present. Human vampires could be very easily turned by a vampire. Vampires held the lure of great power and immortality. Once human blood was tasted, there was no going back. The older human vampires in town had turned at the end, and he sadly realized there was no guarantee that any of them wouldn’t turn in the future. Their meager powers as human vampires did not make up for their lack of a normal life, and were nothing at all compared to the almost limitless powers of vampires.
Linda had already fallen prey to Wolf’s magnetic spell, which could mean that others like him might be able to tempt her away from her human side and woo her with the rough, seedy playground of demons—filled with weapons, gore, and sick games. However, as he gazed into Linda’s trusting eyes, he knew in his heart that he had always trusted her and always would. He really didn’t believe that she would ever switch sides. But he still wasn’t sure if vampirism was right for her. She was pure and innocent, and he wanted her to remain that way. Because he wanted and desired her was not a good enough reason to have her give up her life.
